SUMMARY:

Echo Chambers knew how to survive. Even with bullet holes in her lungs and scars etched into her skin. She never let anything get in her way, resilient, a fighter, finger always ready on the trigger. She was made to hold weapons, more familiar with them than with any other tool. The army was her home, more so than the little house where she lived with her brother and his family ever was. Little did she know she would very soon long for nothing more than to be back inside those small walls once again...

Because her next mission did not only change her own life, but the entire world with it. The army was called to move into Atlanta to fight those who could not be killed. The undead had risen and the entire city was a warzone. That day she lost more comrades than she had on all the missions she'd ever done.

She'd tried to fight the dead, but they were overrun and she was forced to flee. She'd gone straight to her brothers house and got her family the hell out of there. But nowhere was safe anymore and so the responsibility to keep her family alive rested on her shoulders. And she would not trust anyone else with their lives.

Except maybe the only other person she'd ever met who was just at skilled at surviving as she was...

NOTES:

- The idea I had for the beginning of this book was for Echo to fight in Atlanta when the walkers show up. She tries to fight them and stay as long as possible but all around her soldiers are dying. And eventually she's told to fall back so she runs away. I had to idea to make this the first fight she's ever lost, so that haunts her because she feels like she's given up.

- She makes her way to her brothers house as fast as possible and gets them out of there. I had this idea that she wants to try to find the military base she used to train because she feels like it's safe there. But when they arrive there it's overrun, so they have to leave. She then takes her family to an abandoned farm and makes it into a fort for them to stay.

- She's out hunting for food one day when she runs into Daryl and Rick. This is in the time period when they just got off the farm and before they find the prison (so between season 2 and season 3). They don't trust each other of course but agree to leave each other go if they both get half of the deer they killed.

- So she goes back to her family with half the deer but a few days later Rick and his group show up at the farm they're hiding in. Echo wants them to leave but she sees Lori is pregnant and so Hannah, her sister in law convinces her to let them stay the night.

- But in the middle of the night a herd shows up and so they are forced to fight together and make it out alive. They make a deal to stay together and so they stay together for the entire winter. Until they, of course, find the prison.

- Echo could of course help to protect the group, together with Daryl, since they're the best fighters. Which is how they could start to bond. Of course it should be a slow burn since Daryl is pretty closed-off. My idea was that Echo likes to kind of make a game out of it to get him to open up. So one time when they're keeping watch in the watchtower from the prison, she dares him to tell something about himself for every walker she shoots. So then she gets to show off her sniper skills by shooting walker from the tower. And Daryl has to tell a fact about himself for every walker she kills. It would make the most sense for this to happen after they've been friends for a while, or else Daryl would never agree to it.
