Cold winds across gray lake

I sit alone and quake

I close my eyes and feel

And let my heart's mouth spiel

I let the pain slip out

Let words create a shout

Cold breeze cools anger's fire

Wind whips away my ire

I hear the black crows' caws

Embrace my human flaws

Inhale the crisp cold air

And say a little prayer

Please let me fill my heart

Let love and joy impart

A vision that is clear

Where hope ends daily fears

And then my old hound dog

Jumps off a shoreline log

I roll my eyes and moan

I pull hound in and groan

Shakes water off his coat

Cold drops around me float

I laugh and hug him tight

He sparks an inner light

No matter what is wrong

I have a friend who's strong

He stands right by side

I take his love in stride

Glide back to wooden dock

Forget about hard knocks

Before warm fire we curl

And let gray day unfurl
