"So tell me again, you say Hickorykit did this?"Acorncloud asked.
"Yes,"Wrenfoot meowed impatiently.
Rowankit, Wrenfoot and Acorncloud were all in the nursery with Hickorykit curled up in a tight ball near them. He was shivering violently and tightened his pelt every now and agin with a small gasp of pain... traumatized.
I'm the one who got attacked by thin air!
"No,"he said feebly, ignoring the salty taste of blood in his mouth,"It was the air. Hickorykit is too weak to do this. He couldn't scar a newborn kit. It was the air,"
Acorncloud stared at him like he was mad,"Wrenfoot?"
Wrenfoot glanced at Hickorykit, then back at Rowankit, then she sighed, "Rowankit attacked Hickorykit. He looked weak, as if he were summoning something,"
Hickorykit's head jerked up, eyes suddenly sharp with interest.
"And then-"
"I saw something,"Hickorykit confessed quietly,"It was black with glowing red eyes...like some demon..."
Acorncloud stared at Rowankit's brother,"Well it's obvious what happened,"she meowed after a pause.
"It is?"Wrenfoot asked.
"Yes. Rowankit's injuries where caused by Hickorykit getting angry," she explained patiently.
"And what about what Hickorykit saw?"Wrenfoot pointed out.
"As for Hickorykit..."Acorncloud continued like there'd been no interruption,"He's mad,"
                                                                                                  * * *

Rowankit watched Hickorykit as he lay awake, restlessly pacing around the nursery, muttering to himself. Every now and then, he'd go rigid with pain and screw up his eyes. Sometimes he'd clutch his chest with his short, stumpy tail.
Rowankit glared at his brother. He'd get up and beat the oblivious kit, but Acorncloud had instructed Wrenfoot to keep him still, and Wrenfoot had fallen asleep in a sufocating position for him.
I'm sure this lack of oxegyn won't heal me! He thought angrily.
Hickorykit was still pacing around. He was limping from his leg.
Rowankit couldn't suppress a snort of laughter at the way his younger littermate wadled around.
He whipped around to stare at him. Hickorykit's amber eyes were piecering in the early dawn and he also noticed how weary, haunted and... angry they were.
"Can't you sleep, Rowankit?"he asked hoarsely after several moments of silence.
"I'm just watching you,"he retorted.
"Well I can't,"Hickoykit meowed.
"Good for you,"Rowankit meowed, closing his eyes.
He could feel Hickorykit staring at him,"What do you think happened?"
Rowankit's eyes flew open,"Can you stop? I don't want to talk about it!"he demanded.
Hickorykit was still staring at him intently.
"What?"
"What do you think happened?"he asked again.
Rowankit growled,"I don't know!"
"Tell me,"Hickorykit growled,"Before things get ugly,"
Now it was Rowankit'd turn to stare. On one paw, if he told Hickorykit his interpitation, he could sleep in peace. On the other, he could refuse and wake Wrenfoot as Hickorykit attacked him. But on the third, Hickorykit might leave if he knew his brother's opinion. Yet on the third, Hickorykit wasn't allowed out of camp and he'd get into trouble for not stopping him. But then again...he glanced at Wrenfoot.
He sighed, weighing his options. This was the hardest decision of his life.
Finally, he sighed irritably.
"I think there was someone else there. Some dark spirit or something that only you could see,"he whispered, "That explains what you saw,"
"So you think I'm sane?"Hickorykit asked.
"No, Hickorystump. You're definately mad,"he continued,"I think you're being sought out by a ghost because you're mad. Or that's what's making you,"
Hickorykit gave a curt nod of acknowledgment,"I-"he stared, then broke off with a gasp of pain. He collapsed into a moss nest, eyes laced with fear. The amber was rolled over by black and bright, vibrant red.
He jerked out of the seizure with clenched teeth and continued with a note of panic in his voice,"I have to leave,"
"What?"Rowankit exclaimed,"You're not allowed to leave the nursery,  Dreifoot!"he hissed.
Hickorykit whipped around, a gleam of sinister madness in his eyes,"Try and stop me,"he spat.
