"How many nights does it take to count the stars?"

☆☆☆

A sudden knock on his door woke the man in the moon from his slumber. Jisoo had woken up to a certain melody of trumpets that he knew well of, just like when that person had first visited him.

"Announcing the grand arrival of your royal highness, Prince Junhui!"

When Jisoo steps out of his house, some sort of red fabric started to roll and stopped, right in front of the tip of his toes. Jisoo looked down to his feet, then looked up, seeing a bunch of other humans with ridiculously colorful costumes standing along the carpet in two lines, playing a melody of trumpets.

"Who on moon would even…" Jisoo trailed off, his eyes gazing at a figure dressed in clothing he knew well off, his escort by his side. Prince Junhui walked down the carpet, his royal butler Seungcheol scuttling behind him.

"Your Highness…?" Jisoo greets the prince in a questioning tone. Who wouldn't, to be honest. This was a surprise. The Crown Prince had never, ever visited him before, not even once. Okay, maybe once, and that was long ago; long when he first became the man in the moon.

Prince Junhui scanned Jisoo from his half frozen hair to his twiddling toes, then looking back at him in the eye.

"May I know your name?"

"Jisoo, Your Highness." Jisoo answers almost immediately, bowing his head and averting eye contact from the prince. Junhui had motioned Seungcheol to place a cloak over himself to protect him from the cold.

Junhui brushes a few specks of moondust off his shoulder before breaking into a sentence, "I heard from Jester that you broke the Oath. Is it true?"

The words that came out of the Prince's mouth wasn't a surprise, to Jisoo. He was expecting this question all this time. It shocked him that the Prince would actually get to the extent of visiting him on the moon. Was the Oath this serious to them? It wasn't Junhui who created the Oath, yet he chose to stay abide by the rules that his previous ancestors had made. What bullcrap.

What should Jisoo do? Should he be honest, admit his fault and say yes? Should he lie just so he could see Gaeul again? What was he supposed to do then? Why did the Oath even had to exist?

"I…well-" Jisoo took his time fidgeting, searching for the right words.

"The Prince demands an answer." Seungcheol cuts off. Junhui had raised a hand towards the butler to go easy on the boy.

Jisoo inhaled a breath.

"Yes, yes I did."

"I see." The Prince replied, nodding. Jisoo couldn't tell whether the royalty was plain impressed or purely disappointed. His face showed no expression whatsoever; only observing Jisoo's appearance and the surface of the moon.

A loud, sudden crash was heard from behind. All eyes were on the dust that flew everywhere from the sudden crash, Seungcheol quickly covering Junhui with a cloth. Jisoo squinted his eyes, sighing, knowing that whatever that had a rough landing would leave a hole right in front of his house.

"Your Highness!" Peter Pan's face was caked with dust, the boy fixing his green hat and attire as he kneeled down for the Prince.

"I am Peter Pan of Neverland, also the Man in the Moon's best companion," Peter Hoshi stood up proudly, and elbowed Jisoo by the rib "you could say we're best buds, eh?" He snickers as Jisoo holds his rib in pain.

"And what brings you here, Peter?"

"I am here to stand up for the Man in the Moon."

Jisoo's eyes widened with both confusion and disagreement. He knew the fact that no matter how many times Peter tries to convince the Prince, nothing would happen. Jisoo would still be forbidden from seeing her.

"His Highness has made it clear of the Man in the Moon's forbiddance, there is no reason to speak." Seungcheol scowled, Jisoo catching Hoshi's eye twitching a little at the butler's cockiness. Hoshi was never too fond of the new butler anyway; Seungcheol seemed strict and stoic, who's personality diverses with Hoshi's.

"I shall spare him some time," The Prince approved, turning to Seungcheol in agreement. Hoshi's face lit up as he stuck his tongue out at the butler, who was rolling his eyes in annoyance.

"Speak."

"I would like to disagree with the decision of forbidding the Man in the Moon from seeing the human girl."

"And why is that?"

"Because it's love."

Jisoo felt taken aback at the way Hoshi spoke, he knew the truth. He was standing up for it.

"Love is a powerful matter, Your Highness, you cannot stop it. The bond that they had was simply beautiful, they cannot cut ties after knowing their love for each other. It's unfair."

"Oh really? Why don't you try it first to see if it would actually work. Would you like to cut ties with those Lost Boys of yours?" Junhui had asked, offending Hoshi quite a lot. Jisoo felt like it was too harsh for what a prince would say, sending mental notes to Hoshi to calm down. What was the point in sparing time to listen to Hoshi speak if he was going to reject it anyway?

"Your Highness, you can't do this to Man in the Moon. He's part human, so he's basically human too. We're all part human. We feel things, emotions. So does Moon hyung."

"You and me are only part  human, and love towards a human is unnecessary," Junhui retorts, frowning at Jisoo "especially for someone like you."

Hoshi's anger was clearly starting to boil at Junhui's attitude.

"I can't believe we're having someone as cocky as you as our future king."

"Nobody dares to speak to the crown prince like that," Seungcheol snapped, Hoshi cowering in fear.

Junhui pushes Seungcheol gently, "Enough. Do you understand what you are forbidden to do, Man in the Moon?"

Jisoo's lips were frozen, even if the temperature om the moon was this cold, he's never felt his lips unable to move before. Was it from the temperature or his own self? He wasn't sure.

Forcing his voice to respond, he said, "Yes your Highness."

"Very well."

Junhui turns around and walks, Seungcheol giving Hoshi a glare before following the Prince. The crowd had flew away, off back to Neverland, leaving both Jisoo and Hoshi in silence.

"I'm sorry hyung."

"It's okay," Jisoo smiles, scratching his neck "I was prepared for this to happen."

Hoshi just nods, unable to say anything anymore.

"Have you told Chan?"

Jisoo looked at Hoshi earnestly. Either way, Chan has to know what happened to his mother. At least he'd help Gaeul cheer up a bit. They were siblings after all.

"I haven't," Hoshi answered, straightening his posture "but I will soon."

Jisoo nods. The silence between them signaled Hoshi that it was most probably time for him to leave. It was going to be a sad night for Jisoo, but it would get even more worse if he was there.

"I'll tell what happened to Gaeul, so don't you worry." Hoshi's feet parted with the ground as he elevated, flying back to where he belongs.

Jisoo sits down as he stares back at the earth, heaving a long, sad sigh.

"Gaeul, I'm so sorry."
