Your life seemed perfect. Thanos had been defeated, those who had been victims of the snap had been returned, you still held your dream job as an Avenger, and you had the perfect girlfriend, Carol Danvers. God, you loved her. She was perfect. Her smile, her laugh, the way you fit in her arms. Perfect.  But, sometimes, the distance became a bit much. You had your duties on Earth, while she was off in space, being a hero. There would be periods of time where you wouldn't even get to see her for weeks, even months at a time. It broke your heart, yet you didn't want to tell her. You didn't want to hurt her. You masked your pain every time she left, hoping she wouldn't notice. She didn't, for a while. But finally one day, she did.

It happened when she only had time to see you for a couple of days. Then, she would have to leave for a month.

"A month?"  You cried. "I haven't seen you in three weeks!"

"I know, sweetheart," she sighed, "But I gotta help these people." She took your hands in yours and you put on a fake smile.

"Be safe, love," you whispered before kissing her cheek and walking away.

As your figure retreated from her sight, she couldn't help but recall the sadness, the pain, in your eyes. Something was wrong.

"Y/N!" She called, running after you. "Don't go!"

You came to a halt and turned to see her approaching you.

"Don't go breaking my heart," She said breathlessly.

"I couldn't if I tried," you responded sadly.

"What's wrong? Did I do something to hurt you?"

"It's just, I miss you Carol, and I feel like you're never here. I didn't want to tell you because I know you're busy and all, and I feel like I'm just a burden to you and I just-"

She cut you off by pulling you into a tight hug.

"Sweetheart, I didn't know you felt like this. I promise you, I'll be there for you," she mumbled into the crook of your neck. She pulls apart to look at you in the eye. "You are NOT a burden to me, Y/N. I'm sorry I haven't been around as much and I promise that'll change." You smile at her once again, genuinely this time.
"Thank you."

"And Y/N?"

"Yes, love?"

"The real reason I've been gone for so long was because I was trying to make this perfect, but, I think now's the perfect time."

She kneels down on one knee and pulls out a small velvet box.

"Y/N L/N, you've been there by my side since I first met you. It was love at first sight. You're the light of my life. Sweetheart, Y/N, will you marry me?"

Your jaw drops in shock and you giddily leap into her arms, the ring falling to the floor.

"Yes."
