I pushed him back and looked around frantically to see if anyone else had seen us. I hissed, “What are you doing here!?” Noam smiled smugly, “I found you.”

I rolled my eyes, “Found me? This isn’t a GAME. But of course, for you it seems like one.” Noam’s smile faded, “Babe, are you still mad about me kissing her?” I pushed him again, “Screw you. I couldn’t care less about you.”

“Lies. You miss me. I can see it in your eyes.” I pointed at my eyes and said, “All you can see in these eyes is NOTHING. I don’t care anymore. You did what you had to.”

Noam smirked, “You’re so adorable when you’re trying to be mad.”

I felt like hitting my head on the wall. Clearly, he was not getting this. Noam was one of the many reasons I left my old school. I could deal with being called gay. I did it to show Noam that it wasn’t hard to come out of the closet. I sacrificed most of my high school life dealing with bullies. Apparently, that wasn’t enough for this jerk. He had to go make out with Lisa the moment rumours started about him being my boyfriend. I broke up with him right after that because if he really did love me, he’d man up and face those rumours. Not eat Lisa’s face.

I simply held the note out for him to read. He smiled, “So you got my little note?”

I snapped, “Yeah. With the hearts and everything.”

He chuckled, “You still haven’t grown out of your little sarcastic streak have you?”

“I’m happy the way I am. Unlike a few other people I can think of.”

He shook his head and I took this as my cue to leave. Just as I turned to walk away, he grabbed my wrist, “Don’t go.”

I snorted, “Oh Noam. You should have thought about all of this before you sucked Lisa’s face off.”

He let go of my wrist immediately. His eyes turned cold, “What happened back then was because I was foolish. I was just 16. I was SCARED.”

“I was too. But I did it for YOU. Clearly, that was all a mistake though.”

“I was a mistake? Don’t lie to me, Kenny.”

“It’s just Ken, now. And YOU weren’t a mistake. It was all a mistake!”

Noam looked at me quizzically. Just then, Hannah walked into the library, smiling. I yelled, “Hey Hannah!”

Hannah turned around and when she spotted me, grinned. I walked over to her quickly and she said, “You really shouldn’t be yelling like that in the library.” Yet, when she said it, she was smiling as usual. I stuck my tongue out, “Well, I was wondering if you could do me a favour. Real quick. Pretend to be my girlfriend!”

Hannah’s eyes widened in confusion, “This wouldn’t have anything to do with that guy walking towards us, would it?”

I turned to see Noam smirk again. I wanted to slap that silly smirk right off his face. He nodded at Hannah, “Is this your little friend then?”

I tried to correct him. But the word girlfriend, stayed stuck in my throat. I couldn’t do it. I gulped, trying to build the courage to yell out that she was my girlfriend. I had tried coming out of the closet and I regretted it every day. Never again. I was going to be Kenneth Kentucky, the quiet guy from now on. Not Kenneth Kentucky the quiet gay everyone got to pick on.

Just as I was about to strangle myself in despair, I heard Hannah say, “Little friend?”

There is a God!

I cleared my throat, “Erm. Yeah. About that...”

Before I could continue, Hannah turned towards me, hands on her hips. “Babe, are you embarrassed to be with me or something?”

I froze, trying to frame a coherent sentence, “N...No, I mean..nope. Not at...”

She cut me off, “Then WHY does he not know we’re together?”

Noam started laughing, “Wait a minute. You guys are dating?”

Oh dear God, no. Time to man up, Kenneth!

“I swear I’m not. How about I take you out on Friday to make up for this? Movie?”

Hannah smiled angelically and batted her eyes, “And dinner after?”

Women were scary creatures. One smile and you were a goner. Lucky for me, I was kind of immune to this. I nodded, still trying hard to play along. Noam was still laughing, “Do you really think I’m falling for this?”

Hannah crossed her arms across her chest, “I’m sorry, what was that?”

Noam stopped laughing and looked down at her, “I’m not falling for this. What’s a girl like you even doing with a guy like him?”

Noam had meant to say what she was doing with a gay guy like me but since Hannah didn’t know this, she narrowed her eyes, “Take that back right now. He’s more of a man than you could ever be.”

“Noam. Leave. Right now.”

Noam looked at me, “How about I join you guys on Friday?”

Hannah pushed Noam, “Back off bro! It’s MY date night.”

I looked at her in surprise. For a tiny girl, she sure had a lot of power. Hannah whirled around, “What are you just standing there and looking at me for? Tell him he isn’t coming!”

I tried my hardest to suppress a giggle at her fake ferociousness. Oh my gosh, Hannah was probably more of a man than me. I pushed Hannah behind me and glared at Noam, “No. It’s my way of making it up to Hannah. Like she said, Back off!”

Then I mouthed, “Please!” so Hannah couldn’t hear. I knew Noam would never back down unless I begged.

Noam tried hard to not smirk. He shook his head again and leaned in quickly. I backed away a little, afraid of what he was going to do. He caught me by the shoulders and then whispered into my ear, “I’m not falling for this, Kenny. If you think playing straight is going to turn you straight, you are so wrong. Trust me, I would know.”

Then he let go of me and walked right out of the library, not looking back even once.

I let out a sigh of relief. He was gone for now. I turned around and gave Hannah a giant hug. “Thank you so much! I love you for doing this! I have to say, that was great acting. You deserve an Oscar for playing the typical scary girlfriend.”

Hannah raised an eyebrow, “Pick me up at 6. Don’t be late.”

I coughed, “Wait, what?”

She winked, “I wasn’t kidding about Dinner and a Movie. That was no act, darling.”

She blew me a kiss and walked out, wiggling her bum ever so slightly. Girls walked so weirdly! She turned around suddenly and then laughed, “Stop checking my ass out.”

I turned red and stammered, “Wha-What? I wasn’t! I swear!”

She just giggled, flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder and left. I groaned to myself. What had I just got myself into? Sure, Hannah was really pretty and all but I was GAY.

Suddenly, I heard the bell ring signalling the end of Lunch. I stomped my feet like a whiny kid. HONESTLY, could a boy not get his sleep? I thought back to what Hannah said. I guess we could go watch a movie and get dinner. But just as friends, right? Right.

Hahahaha. Poor Kenny. If it's not Julian bugging him, it's another person. You'll see more of Noam, soon. ;D
