(The Emperor's New Clothes AU. King!Euron Greyjoy x reader. Humor! The original story was written by Hans Christian Andersen.)

Euron Greyjoy was the worst of kings. He was cruel and selfish. He would kill anyone he thought stood in his way and he used everything at his disposal, including magic. The people he was supposed to rule over would often struggle to survive, but Euron didn't seem to care. He was more interested in holding onto his crown and looking like the king he said he was. That very attitude would be his undoing.

You had heard of the cruel king that put himself above his people. You hated rulers who took advantage of their stations and their people like that. Being a novice mage, you decided to make them pay. You couldn't kill them. That would only end up with you being thrown into a cell. No, killing those rulers wouldn't do any good. However, you could humiliate them and that is just what you planned to do to Euron.

You traveled to Euron's kingdom the week of his birthday celebration. It was that week that Euron had a parade of sorts every year. He traveled throughout his entire kingdom. That was when you would bring a little bit of joy to his people. Your heart broke for the people starving in the streets, their taxes being used to dress Euron in the finest clothing and feed him the finest foods. You stopped every once in a while and handed out a bit of gold or food for those who really needed it.

When you reached the castle, you bowed lowly before the king. "King Euron, thank you for seeing me," you greeted, "I have come to offer my services. I have come to ask for the honor of dressing you for your upcoming birthday celebration." Euron arched a brow as he rose from his seat. "I have a tailor already."

You beamed up at him. "Yes, of course. But none like me. At least come look at my fabrics before you decide." You kept your charming smile on your face when he came down to inspect the fabrics on your cart. You had many different fabrics, some with magical properties, but you knew he wouldn't go for them.

"None of these suit my fancy," he waved you off as if to dismiss you. All according to plan. "I see. Of course, a king with such exceptional taste would require a more...majestic fabric. I have just the thing." You pulled out a bolt of "fabric". Euron's brows drew together. "Are you daft? There's nothing there." You let out a laugh.

"This fabric is special, Your Majesty. Magic. It can be only be seen when you put it on. The magic allows you to change its color and design anyway you wish. Then you and everyone else will be able to see not only your majesty but how brilliant of a designer you can be as well. Bring in a mirror and I will show you." It nearly killed you to choke out the words, but you managed to keep a straight face.

Euron eyes you for a moment, but then gestured for you to follow him. You'd already been checked for weapons and anything else that could harm the king, so the guards thought nothing of it when the king ordered them to remain where they were. You kept your smirk off your face as you followed after Euron.

He lead you to a room. "Wait here," he ordered and went to do something else. You assumed he'd change into a robe so you could show him the fabric. That was all the time you needed to cast your spell on the mirror. A soft smirk came to your lips as Euron reentered the room. Now it was time to work your magic.

"Now, show me this magical fabric." You smiled at him and did as he asked. Thanks to your little spell, the moment the "fabric" touch his arm, Euron saw it change to his favorite color. His eyes lit up in delight. "Well, I must say this is something I haven't seen before! Make me the finest robes anyone has ever seen. I demand it!" You gave him a bow.

"Of course, Your Majesty. This will be my best work yet." With that, you took your little cart and left the room. You couldn't fight back the smile that crept onto your face as you practically skipped out of the castle. You went to the nearest inn to do your "work" for the night and the next morning you returned to the castle with the king's newest ensemble in hand.

Euron preened in front of the mirror, seeing something only he could see. You didn't even try to hide your elation at the fact that, while your enchanted mirror showed Euron whatever he wanted to see, he was actually wearing absolutely nothing. The entire kingdom would see him in all his naked glory. He would be laughed at and humiliated. It might not change him, but it would certainly do his people good to see the man so flawed. Plus, the enormous fee he had paid you would go back to his people to feed them for weeks, possibly even months.

You walked behind him, trying not to look at his bottom as he walked through the halls of the castle to where his carriage was waiting. Guards and servants were fighting back snickers and one of the maids, one you assumed was often a victim of Euron's cruelty, even smiled and mouthed "thank you", to you. The septon who rode in the carriage in front of Euron to bless the path nearly fainted at the sight of his king. Still, Euron noticed nothing. He merely thought they were admiring his exquisite new robes.

You bowed before him once more when he climbed the carriage. He waved farewell and the carriage took off. Only then did you and everyone around you finally let out the laughter you'd been holding in. You followed after the carriage, slowly sharing the wealth Euron had given you while his people laughed heartily for the first time in weeks.

After that, you gathered your belonging and left the kingdom. By the time word got around and Euron finally understood what you had done, you'd be long gone, never to set foot in his kingdom again. That didn't keep the people from talking about it and word of your deed followed after you for many, many moons. It truly was your greatest work yet.
