Moon's POV

All of a sudden, there were screams of fear and shouting of commands as we were being attacked.

"Stay here!" My best friend, Ember yelled, and I was happy to obey, I didn't want to fight. I wanted to stay right here, where it was safe.

How did this happen? Why are we being attacked?

I stayed in the building. Waiting for Ember to come back, I heard him insult somebody, but I wasn't sure who it was.

And to believe that only minutes ago, we were just joking around.

For some reason, I wasn't sure how, but I knew that Ember was in danger, and that I could save him.

But how? Everybody knew I was tragic with a sword, and there were no other weapons around me. Besides, I promised Ember that I would stay safe.

I had to do something, but what?

I stuck my head out of a window and watched as I saw spiders overrunning our village, while a giant spider was chasing Ember, gaining on him.

Wait a minute, I said that I would stay here and stay safe. I won't be going anywhere if I fought from up here where they won't see me.

But how do I save Ember?

Suddenly, blue luminescent threads shot out of my hands and wrapped around the giant spider, immobilizing it long enough for Ember to run away. Then, the threads snapped and the giant spider kept on chasing him.

I stared at my hands in shock as the screams and hisses of the humans and spiders began to rise, but to me, it was merely background sounds.

What just happened? I wondered in awe.

So focused was I on wondering how I just shot those threads that I never noticed that the village was silent.

"Guys?" I yelled. "Anybody?"

Silence, I didn't hear anything, not even the sound of the village people walking around.

Something was terribly wrong.

Quietly I snuck downstairs and opened the door from Ember's house.

"Oh no," I whispered as I surveyed the scene.

All the spiders were gone, some laying on the ground, dead, while the rest had fled with the giant spider.

And all around me, laying in the grass, as it was soaking up the all their blood, were the bodies of the other villagers.

This book may have the occasional slow updates, sorry, but high school is about to start next month, and it's as expensive as college, so I need to get good grades. But for now, I'll try to publish as much as I can.

The villagers are not actual villagers that you trade with. They're just called villagers because Moon and Ember lived in a village.
