Sonnet 101: Fair Youth
(Faults 12)

So here I stand on my last rock of strength
That still endures the waves of rising seas;
Now captive here, incoming waves at length
Lap at my feet and then up to my knees,
Sentencing me to drown beneath my tears
Upon the gentle orders of cruel love,
Resigning all my hopes and all my fears
To circumstance and infamy thereof;
But when the Prince of Peace appears to me
As if to lead me still a little further,
I take my first steps on the churning sea
And touch the hand of God, the Son and Father—
      If only for a time to get me by,
      Believing in the Truth and not a lie.
