Sonnet 104: Fair Youth
(Faults 15)

Alas, such fancies prove a devil's playground,
For only in a romance can such dreams
Take place inside the mind and have me spellbound
With cunning charms, sweet lies and brilliant schemes.
I've not the heart to take such cruel advantage
Of someone's feelings for a selfish gain;
Instead, by circumstance I somehow manage
To get myself to play the foolish swain
Caught up inside the net of love's embrace,
Only to gain misfortune from her touch
And thereof gain the crown of my disgrace;
Such now becomes the state of my own crutch
      To hide my state in cruel obscurity,
      Because I've sinned, forsaken purity!
