Sonnet 23: The Poet
(Inspiration 12)
The art of love and poetry agree
Where art most thrives-inside a beating heart,
Where every passion rages like the sea
And strains to have expressed its deepest part;
For where both arts agree, like rhymes that sing
With courting words to please a lover's ear,
They make a dying world seem new as spring
And grant anew another hopeful year.
In thee I dare to prophecy all this,
That all my best that love hath granted me
Will never fade nor lose its potent bliss,
So long as thou lov'st me as I love thee.
Thine inspiration keeps my wit alive,
So long as thou providest me that drive.
