Current POV

Three moons, what was I thinking? I'd invited the love of my life for a midnight stroll. I barely knew her! I'd only met her today and what if she wasn't into me? What if she hated me and was only going because she was too nice? What if she doesn't even like boys? That would be awkward. I'd support her, of course, but... I still love her.

Slightly shaking from nerves, I made my way to my room. Sitting in their bunk, alone, was Kingfisher, a GlintWing (Night Sea). "Hey," I mumbled. He nodded, not saying anything. He was pretty quiet. I slid into my bunk and tried to sleep, staring at the wall. Exhaustion didn't come, however, and I ended up staying awake as my roommates filtered into the room one by one. I swear my heart started trying to escape my chest when I heard Violet's light footsteps enter the room.

After a while, everyone was in the room. It was a tense silence, the type where you felt like you can't make a noise or else you'd be struck dead. The type where you tensed up if someone turned around and there was a loud creak. The type where you can't sleep until everyone else has too. And I hated it.

In the Slush Kingdom, I slept in a soundproofed room alone with only a window. Every night the cool wind would guide me to sleep. I could toss and turn all I needed, and no one would notice. The soft breeze would sing to me until I fell asleep. Here, I couldn't have the wind to bring me to sleep. Here, I had to do it myself.

And it never came. I stayed wide awake, heart racing, wall staring, until midnight arrived. And I dunno how I knew, but me and Violet collectively knew it was time. Shivering one last time, I slowly slid out of bed, talon by talon. I cringed when the bed creaked. Once out of my bed, I glanced up. Violet was staring at me with her beautiful violet eyes, perfectly seen through the darkness.

I blushed, glad she couldn't notice it, and we silently trekked across the room to the door. "So where are we going?" She whispered, smiling happily. "You'll find out," I replied, just as softly. In actuality, I had no idea, but I'd find somewhere as beautiful as her. This place was huge, after all. We walked down the silent hallway quietly, her tail often brushing mine. This was a comfortable silence; there was no need for talking or anything, but it wasn't like you had to be quiet.

Thinking about this, I tripped over my own talons and almost fell. Violet let out a small giggle of amusement. I put a claw over my mouth, grinning just as wide. A/n I could make this a bad chapter right now but I want the fluff so nope. You're welcome.

We walked through the halls aimlessly until I stumbled upon a door that was ajar. Curious, I nudged it open and gasped. Well, inwardly gasped. Past the wooden door was a field of green, shining in the moonlight. Juniper bushes dotted the glade, along with clumps of violets, roses and lilacs. At the far corner was a small pond from where the sound of frogs was apparent. A slight chirping resonated from the thick grass. Large saplings stretched far into the sky, their leaves poking at the clouds. And in the centre of the clearing was a huge tree, with these pink leaves that seemed to float around the tree magically. A few jays chirped from their perches, and red squirrels danced from branch to branch. It was an explosion of life.

"Oh my god, Current, it's beautiful..." Violet murmured in shock. I smiled weakly, amazed at the sight. "Just like you," I replied subconsciously. I saw her blush out of the corner of my eye, and a little heat flooded into my cheeks myself. "Sorry, I just—" I tried to explain myself. She cut me off.

"No, thanks, that's so sweet," she said. I turned to look at her. She made a gesture to the field. "Well? Shall we?" I nodded rapidly and we began walking through a worn through path in the middle of the field, tails actually intertwined. I didn't remember twining them together, but it was nice. Her tail was warm along my cool, part IceWing scales. It was a perfect balance of heat and chill.

"So what's your favourite colour?" She asked out of the blue. I shrugged. "Probably gold, or blue-grey. Why?" Now it was her turn to shrug. "I guess I'm just curious," she responded. We walked in a sweet silence from then. I glanced up and saw a world of stars.

"Do you wanna fly?" I offered. She looked at me eagerly. "I'd love to!" We launched into the sky before tumbling back down. Our tails were still wrapped together. We laid in the soft grass together laughing for a couple minutes before standing, still chuckling. I suddenly launched into the air, feeling the warm summer air whistle past me.

I glanced to my left to see Violet, her white and purple scales glittering like diamonds in the bright moonlight. Two and a half moons shone in the stars, lighting up the mountain around them. The field had been at the base of the mountain, so we climbed higher and higher up the mountain.

After a few minutes of gliding in the air freely, we landed on a large ledge. It was dotted with a couple bushes and ferns. As we landed in the grass, a couple fireflies danced from the bushes. The orange lights swivelled around us gracefully. "Hey Current?" Violet murmured, drawing me from my trance. I looked at her beautiful face, her kind violet eyes, the little flower tucked on her ear, and saw her snout was tinted rosy pink in a blush.

I smiled, blushing. "Yeah?" I asked, sitting on the soft grass. She sat down across from me. I couldn't stop myself; I buried my head in my talons, giggling and blushing. She looked alarmed. "What? What's wrong?" She asked, shaking my shoulder gingerly. I lifted my head, still blushing furiously.

"Sorry. So sorry. You're just, like, so cute it's kind of scary. Good scary," I rambled. She smiled. "You're so sweet. I was just going to say, Current... I like you. Like, I really like you. I know I've only known you for a couple hours, but it's been a heck of a time. You're nice and funny and so cute and— I can't. You're just the best," she said shakily.

We both blushed, and I didn't say anything for a while. Mainly because I literally couldn't think. My brain was stuck. She interpreted this differently. "But—! If you don't like me back, that's fine, we can still be friends or something-"  I cut her off by cupping her face in my talons.

"Violet, don't worry. I feel the same. You're so sweet and friendly and oh my moons, you're the most beautiful dragon I've ever met by far. I'm so glad I met you. You're the one thing I was missing in this life." She looked up at me with her beautiful eyes.

And then we kissed under the moonlight, the fireflies still floating around us mesmerizingly.
