Summary: America is a grim, gray shadow of itself after a catastrophe. A man (Viggo Mortensen) and his young son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) wander through this post-apocalyptic world, trying to keep the dream of civilization alive. They journey toward the sea, surviving as best they can on what they can scavenge, and try to avoid roving gangs of savage humans who will turn them into slaves, or worse.

I finished the book and decided to watch the movie! And as usual, the book was better. And the book was kinda meh anyways.

The casting and sets were fantastic. The acting was fantastic. The plot was intriguing and the characters were likable and I very much cared about them!

For the entirety of the movie, Man and Boy are traveling south for the winter in a post apocalyptic world. The reason for the collapse of society is never revealed. All we know is there's few humans left and no animals. The humans that are left are struggling to survive and many resort to cannibalism.

There was a lot of walking. So much walking as they head south. And not much happened. So when something did happen it was very intense.

They run into cannibals, violent people with guns, and an old lonely man. They are robbed, nearly starve to death, and are almost murdered.

However the time between these suspenseful moments was long and drawn out, making it slow paced and slightly boring.

In my opinion, the flash backs were the most interesting parts of the film. We see their lives shortly after the fall out and how they struggle with bringing a baby into this hellish world.

The mother struggles with extreme depression which eventually results in her life ending.

But we don't get much of this beginning and their struggles to adapt to the new world. I would've liked to see more.

The ending was expected and uneventful. Man had been coughing up blood for the majority of the movie so when they reach the beaches in the south he dies and leaves the boy alone.

But not for long because apparently they were being followed by a random family who are now going to adopt him.
