Max and Alice talked quietly. My face hadn't left my knees. I planed to stay this way.

We must have stayed in the car for around 30 minutes. Alice and Max talked quietly in front. I did nothing.

Don't cry Kyle. Don't cry, I kept telling myself. Don't cry. The door opened and closed. The car started driving again. I lifted my head up. Only Max was in the car. Max looked in the mirror. Right at me.

"Alice is at the front building since there isn't any parking near by. We're going to have to walk a while." Max said. I didn't do anything. Max pulled into a parking place a good 10 minutes away from the church building. He turned off the car and went outside. I followed him, doing nothing. Max didn't say anything for a few minutes.

"Kyle. Umm. I was wondering. If like. I could. Like. You know. Like." Max said,
Struggling with words. I waited patiently for what he had to say. I had no clue were he was going with this.

"So. Like." Max stopped for a moment and took a deep breath. "Kyle, I was wondering if I could date Alice." Max said quickly.

I could have stopped walking, fallen into the ground and never come back. Is this World War ||| happening? Another world war.

I looked at Max carefully. He seemed like a good boy. Nice and all. He did make Alice happy and all. But something still bothered me.

Why would he ask for my permission to date Alice? Didn't like men do that, like when they wanted to marry a girl and asked her father?

"I'm asking you, because well. I know what this isn't the happiest of times for you both. Still getting used to Michigan and all." Max said. Nope, actually I'm this is the best thing that has happened in my life and I'm feeling right at home.

"And I don't want you to feel that I'm taking away your sister from you forever." Max finished. Ok. It's official. This person can read my mind.

I shook my head.

"Oh thank goodness." Max said, looking like the sky had been lifted off his shoulders.

We walked all the way to the church. Alice was waited for us in the front building. We walked into the large room, that Max said where the service for church was. He explained that there were Sabbath School downstairs in the morning and if we came earlier I could go. No thanks. I already have school to handle and that's hard enough.

"Come on Kyle, don't you want to go next week?" Alice asked. I shook my head no.

"It will be fun." Max insisted. "I loved it when I was a kid!" I shook my head no.

"What if Melody comes?" Alice asked. I raised my eyebrow. Like that was going to happen. "Deal excepted. If I can get Melody to come, then you have to go." I shook my head yes. No way she was going to win this bet.

Author's Note

I'm sorry for the short chapters. I really am, but I'm going through a writers block and it's a lot harder to write longer chapters and it takes so much longer. Usually I can finish a chapter in an hour. This chapter took me three days! If updates come in slower, you know why now.
