Requested by NOCTURNA2299 and it's a more modern AU(they're out of school), cause why not?

Veronica's POV

I was out with a few friends and McNamara happened to be apart of them. I had decided to forget senior year of high school had even happened, no need to go through that again. I'm 25 for God's good sake! Anyway, I'm getting off track. We happened to be near a lake in the middle of winter. I know, I know. Now, a thing about McNamara and I, we became friends (later girlfriends but no one knew that except Martha for a while) after the whole senior year fiasco. So we were here at this lake, trying to act as platonic as we could, trying to keep the fact we were dating a secret. Then, Heather tripped and landed face first into the presumably freezing water. She stood up, shivering badly. How cold was that water exactly?

"Oh f**k this," I worded my thoughts out loud, and walked over to my shivering girlfriend and took my jacket off giving it to her. McNamara smiled weakly. "Be careful, Mackie! You could catch a cold if you're not careful." Now, I knew my girlfriend's name was Heather but back in high school there'd been three at my school and calling Heather by her surname was a habit. Heather didn't seem to mind though, she had been directly part of the group the Heathers created. The whole school had called the group The Heathers and calling them individually by their surnames just became the norm in a sense.

"T-thanks, V-Vero," she stated shivering. I looked her up and down.

"We're going home, now," I said, leading her towards the car.

The next morning I placed some hot chocolate on the table in front of where McNamara was sleeping. She stirred and looked at the drink. "I told you this would happen," my tone was light and slightly amused. McNamara attempted to glare at me as I sat next to her. She sniffed and took the mug.

"I can't stay mad at you, and it was my own fault," she said in that voice you have when you have a cold. "I'm the one who tripped." I gave my girlfriend a sympathetic look before checking her temperature.

"You don't appear to have a fever, so that must mean it must be in your nose only." McNamara sniffed, and she was looking at me. "What?"

"I wish I could take something."

"Mackie, it's just a cold, it'll be gone in a few days." McNamara looked at me and I got off the couch, I walked into our bathroom. I looked for tissue paper. Finding none, I got toilet paper and left the room. I gave it McNamara who promptly blew her nose into it.  She gave back the snotty paper, and me, unnerved, went to throw it away. "Remind me to get handkerchiefs," I told her. McNamara nodded.

"Have you ever thought about children...?"

"Mac, I don't think we should discuss that while you're sick, we aren't even open about our relationship." McNamara was snoring and clearly didn't hear me. I sighed and took the half finished drink and started to clean up. I went to join her back on the couch. I glanced at my girlfriend. She was sick, but she was cute. My gaze turned toward the kitchen, where I was hiding something, something special.

Okay, so clearly I don't know how to write things like these so... yeah
