The elevator opened, and it honestly took me a moment before I stepped off the lift. I fumbled with my keys getting them out of my purse the whole way to the door. For some reason I couldn't remember which one was the key for the apartment door that me and Hawks shared.

After trying all the keys, I didn't have many anyway, I finally got the right key and unlocked the door. As soon as the door opened I could smell something wonderful coming from the kitchen.

"Baby bird how did it go?" I heard Hawks call out from the kitchen. I set my bag down on the kitchen counter, and Hawks turned to me. He was pulling a dish out of the oven. "I'm sorry I couldn't go with you, that meeting ran way longer than was planned."

"Probably best you weren't there." I said, and pulled a black and white picture out of my bag.

"So how'd the ultrasound go?" He asked and walked over behind me, and hugged me as he looked at the picture. "Is that our baby bird?"

"Yeah." I said and handed it to him. He looked at it, and was smiling ear to ear. "Kiego-."

"What's the gender?" He asked. "Or are you sticking with wanting it to be a surprise?" He questioned and looked up at me for a moment, before looking back at the picture. But he immediately looked back at me.

"Songbird?" He asked me, and his smiled dropped a bit.

"It was a girl." I told him. "We were going to have a little girl."

"Were?" He asked, and I felt my chest ache.

"There was no heartbeat." I whispered. I couldn't bring myself to talk any louder. "I had a miscarriage." His face dropped, and I watched as his wings also droop down to the floor. "I'm sorry." I told him and walked out of the kitchen. I walked all the way to the bedroom and buried myself under the blankets.

I wanted to cry so hard. I wanted to just scream and have all my pain just go away. But no matter what, it just wouldn't leave. It felt like it was building in my chest, and it was only getting bigger by the minute. I couldn't bring myself to do anything other than just lay there in bed.

I heard footsteps come into the room but I didn't say anything. What was I supposed to say?

The covers moved behind me and I felt the bed dip. Hawks wrapped his arms around me, and pulled me in tight, draping his wings over the two of us. He didn't say anything as he buried his face in the back of my neck.

"I've got you." He told me, and I hugged onto his arms. We laid still for a while, until I could finally bring myself to roll over to him. He was staring at me, and he brought his hand up and pushed my hair away from my face.

"Kiego . . . ." I started, and lifted my hand, running my fingers over the stubble on his chin. I didn't want to look at him. I didn't want to say what I was about to say either, but I needed to get it out of my mouth. "Maybe you should-."

"Don't even finish that sentence." He told me, and I looked up at his eyes. He was angry. With me or about what I was saying, I have no idea. "Don't think for a single second, that this makes me not want you. I'm not leaving you because of this. And I'll be damned if I let you walk away right now too."

"Kiego." I sighed and tried to pull away from him, but he didn't let me get up.

"No!" He yelled, and I flinched. "I'm not letting you go. I'm never letting you go, and this should prove it!" He said and sat up and dug into his pants. "I lied about the meeting. I really went to get you this." He held out a small box.

I sat up and took the box from him. I opened it, and there was a beautiful golden banded ring with two wings that draped around a beautiful red ruby. It looked like a heart. It was an engagement ring.
