"Ugh..." I groaned as I woke up. I sat up wearily and rubbed the side of my head. I blinked several times, trying to adjust my eyes to the darkness. My face turned red when I laid eyes on him. Lewis was fast asleep beside me on the bed. He was laying on his stomach, facing me. His lips were slightly parted and dry blood stained the corners. My heart fluttered as I studied his sleeping features carefully. He looked so peaceful, I just couldn't bring myself to wake him. Quietly, I tip-toed out of bed and made my way towards the hallway where the fight had taken place.

"What the...?" I muttered when I saw everything had been cleaned up. The glass on the floor and the stuff from the shelves had been put back. "I wonder what happened to that douche-bag...?" I thought to myself as I staggered into the kitchen for a drink of water. Afterwards, I made my way back to the room. I laid back on the bed next to Lewis, this time facing him. "Thank you..." I whispered gratefully as I nudged my nose against his. "Hannah..." he muttered in his sleep, causing my pulse to speed up again. I scooted as close to him as I could manage and closed my eyes. "I owe you one..." I whispered just before drifting off to sleep.

"Hannah!!" My mother's scream startled us awake. "What is the meaning of this!?" She shouted as she gestured to a sleepy Lewis. "Have you no shame? Bringing boys into your bedroom when I'm at work!?" I shook my head quickly "No Mom, it's not what you think!?" I said as I waved my hands back and forth. "She's right, we didn't do anything inappropriate..." he spoke up defensively. "Then why are you here?" She asked sternly with her hands on her hips.

"Allow me to properly introduce myself. My name is Lewis, I work at Kmart with your daughter and we've been dating for a few weeks..." she arched an eyebrow as he continued. "Hannah let me know she was sick and I just stopped by to make sure she was okay. I was about to leave but she tripped over one of her shoes in the hallway and smashed into the adjacent mirror and hit her head. She knocked herself out so I wanted to make sure she was okay and ended up falling asleep while waiting for her to wake up..." I nodded quickly, impressed by his ability to lie. My mom furrowed her brows as she put down her purse and lunch box.

"Just don't let it happen again..." she muttered as she made her way into her room. I let out a sigh of relief as I turned to him. "That was close..." I whispered as I walked him to the door. "I have experience with parents..." he said with a wink. "What did you do with my ex?" I asked cautiously. "Honestly, I just dragged him out of the house and left him out there. He must've woken up and left already..." he said as he glanced around.

"Thank you for saving me..." I trailed off sheepishly. "You're my girl, it's the least I can do..." he said before leaning in and placing a kiss on my cheek. "Goodnight..." he whispered as I wrapped my arms around him. "Goodnight, please be safe" he nodded as he pulled away. "Always" he chimed just before descending the stairs and disappearing into the night.

After I closed the door, I walked over to my Mom, who was staring at the broken hallway mirror. "You and your clumsiness..." she sighed. "Y-yea, you know me..." I trailed off sheepishly. "Why are you holding your arm?" she asked curiously. It hadn't stopped aching since earlier. "I must've twisted it..." I said as I glanced down. "Hm, well try to be more careful next time will you? I'm sick of you dying every 5mins..." she trailed off just before going to bed.

That night was one of the worst nights of my life. My mother woke me up at 7am because I was shivering uncontrollably. "Hannah, your hand is swollen. It's really bad..." she whispered worriedly. "I think we may need to take you to a hospital, it may be broken..." I nodded weakly, sweat dripping down my brow. I winced in pain as my mom fashioned a splint out of a stiff magazine and some skin tape. She then used an old shirt to make a sling.

I managed to get dressed slowly, the sling had relieved some of the pain. As my mom prepared the car, I picked up my phone and dialed his number. "Hello..." he answered sleepily. "H-hey, sorry to wake you..." I apologized as another shiver ran down my spine. "It's okay, what's up?" He asked. "I think my hand is broken, I'm about to head to the hospital..." I trailed off. "Pick me up, I'll be ready in 5..." he said just before hanging up.
