Not a sound was heard, as she walked up the stairs, each step deliberate and she took with care.

Her crimson hair swayed as she eased across the mahogany floor. The hallway was dark, but she knew it by heart; and avoided each crack with a skip, landing so softly not even a mouse could hear it.

Hands wrapped around the handle of the door as if handing glass, she carefully opened it and slid in. The room was black as night, not a single light.

She strode to her desk, where paper piled, smiled softly and paused for a while.

Her smile suddenly faded and her expression became morose, she quickly turned away shaking her head, as if to clear out bad memories.

Each foot carefully stepped slowly to her bed, with grace she climbed upon it, and with sudden movements she quickly wrapped herself up a soft blanket and 3 more layers.

Curled into a ball, attempting to fall asleep before IT hit her. But she was too late. She was hit by sudden pain, her lungs burned and hot tears ran down her cheeks.

She quietly cried, crushed by a sudden burst of cruel reality. She cried herself to sleep and a single solitary tear rolled gently down her cheek as her dreams saved her from the pain and fears that her eyes could not hide any more.

The girl was just a child, but already an adult. Burdened by reality and a past filled with memories best forgotten.

Memories that could lead to a pain more unfathomable than any could dream of. The child has learned that the most beautiful things can lead the most terrible pains.

This child that has been the victim of the past and fear, of the the thing she could not live without, is broken but keeps trying to mend her shattered heart.

Sincerely,

                ~RoaringRiver~
