A nineteen year-old former student returned to the school, ultimately killing seventeen kids and staff. A staff member called a colleague  after he recognized the student, giving him the student's location. The call was received, and that staff member hid in a closet while the first one claimed he only had to radio in threats. The shooter entered on the buildings, containing about nine hundred students on average and thirty teachers. A student ran into him while he was preparing by a staircase, the shooter told him to leave. The child quickly did as he was told and proceeded to call for help. The shooter opened fire, striking down students in hallways and through windows in classroom doors. The building is three stories tall. Eleven people were killed on the first floor, none on the second although many were injured, and six on the third. The rifle is then believed to have jammed and the shooter blended in with fleeing students. After reportedly getting lunch at a fast food restaurant he was apprehended by police. The surviving students have since taken a huge stand to demand gun control since the shooter was able to legally purchase a weapon despite a rather long record of threatening behavior. Some of the surviving students were stricken with what is known as "survivor's guilt" and have since taken their own lives.
