Skylor's P.O.V.:

After a few days of resting, I was ready to go back to work. Kai was right, I did need to take a break from working, but now that I'm better and back on the case, I wasn't going to stop until I solved it.

I was at Borg Tower interviewing Axel and Borg about the night of the robbery.

"Axel, are you sure your memory banks didn't pick up anything?" I asked.

"I apologize, the damage to my mother board erased my memory of the incident." Axel held his head.

"Unfortunately my security cameras were also down during the robbery." Borg said.

"Do you really think it was the same guy?" Axel asked.

"Not sure, but they both definitely have something against the Garmadon family." I said.

"Who doesn't honestly." Axel griped.

"Sorry we couldn't be of more help." Borg frowned.

"That's ok. Thank you for your time." I said.

I walked back to my squad car and looked at my phone. There was a text from Nya.

Nya: Hey Skylor. Jay
and I were hoping you
could do us a favor.

Skylor: Hey Nya. Sorry
I was working. What's
up?

N: That's ok. We were just
wondering if you could run
a background check for us.

S: On who?

N: His name is Robert
Jetson, he's Olivia's
birth father. Her bio
mom said he was a
bad guy and he used
to work for Onyx.

S: Really? Kai just
started a job there.

N: Why would he
do that after what
happened?

S: He said that we needed
the money and that he
could help us out with
the case. I didn't want
him to but he insisted.

N: Of course he did. 🙄

S: Anyways, thanks for
the tip. I'll look into it
and get back to you.

N: Thanks. We just want
to make sure that he's not
up to anything suspicious.

S: I'll do my best.

N: Bye sis. 😉

I put my phone away and drove back to the station. I ran to my office and started the background check. I typed in his name and there it was. Brown eyes, brown hair, and he had the Onyx tattoo on his left ankle. It matched exactly with the description Kira gave me, but that wasn't enough to accuse him of the crime just yet. I needed a little more evidence.

I looked into his criminal record and he had been arrested twice. First time for a DUI and the second time for public intoxication. Sure he sounds like a jerk, but the problem was these crimes happened over five years ago and they were nothing like the crime at the gas station. I was definitely getting closer but I wasn't quite there yet.

I usually call Kira to check the medical records for the people I background check, but she was out of commission at the moment. So instead I called the hospital.

"Ninjago City Hospital, this is Ronnie how can I help you." The receptionist asked.

"Hi this is Officer Skylor Smith from Ninjago City Police Station and I was wondering if you had any information on a suspect in the Kira Garmadon case." I asked.

"Ok, what are you looking for?" She asked.

"Just give me anything you have on Robert Jetson." I said.

"Ok let's see." I heard her typing. "The only thing I found is a birth certificate for a child that was adopted."

"Yeah I know about that, but is there anything else?"

"Well I do see a file for an Emily Jetson. Does that sound like anything?"

"Maybe, what does it say?" I asked.

"It says that she had a terminal illness and was a patient here for three years. She passed five years ago."

"Was she related to Robert Jetson?" I asked.

"It's a big possibility. He was listed as her emergency contact." I said.

"Was she one of Kira's patients?" I asked.

"She was still in training at the time so I don't know."

"Ok, thank you for your time." I said.

"Of course." She said.

She hung up the phone and I immediately called Kai. Hopefully he would pick up.

Kai's P.O.V.:

I saw Skylor calling me so I ducked into the bathroom and took her call. It must've been important if she was calling me at work.

"Hello?" I whispered picking up my phone.

"Hey, are you alone?" Skylor asked.

"Yeah, I ducked into the bathroom when you called. What's up?"

"I need a favor. Ask around and see what you can find out about someone named Robert Jetson. I think he used to work for Onyx and he's my number one suspect at the moment."

"Really? You got a name?"

"Yeah, it's a long story but his description matches Kira's witness report and he has a record and a motive. I just need a little more information to convict him."

"How did you get that tip?" I asked.

"I'll tell you everything later, but for now just find out what they know about him so we can try to find his location."

"Copy that." I said.

"And please be careful, ok?" She said.

"I will. I love you."

All of a sudden I felt a gun to the back of my head. I couldn't move.

"End the call, quietly." He demanded.

"Tell the kids I said hi. Bye." I said before hanging up.

I put my phone in my pocket and put my hands up in surrender.

"Ok, what do you want?" I asked.

"I wanna know where my daughter is." He said.

"Daughter? What are you talking about?" I asked.

"You know, the daughter your sister adopted." He said.

"I... I don't know what you mean." I lied.

"Don't play dumb, you know where she is and you're going to tell me or else I'll..."

All of a sudden the bathroom door bursted open and my boss walked in. The guy immediately hid his gun and I took the opportunity to step away.

"Hey, you're supposed to be banned from this place!" Jerry screamed at my attacker. "Go, get out of here!"

Without saying another word, he disappeared out of sight, almost like a ghost. I took a deep breath and brushed myself off.

"Sorry about that Kyle." Jerry apologized. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah, but who was that guy?" I asked.

"That's Jett. He used to work here for a while before he got fired for drinking on the job. After his sister died, he just kind of fell apart."

"Oh." I frowned.

"How do you know him?" He asked.

"I don't really, but he wanted something with my niece." I pondered.

"Your niece?"

"She's adopted and her bio dad was not a good guy." I frowned. "Now I'm starting to think he has something to do with it. Can I take my break early? I need to call my wife and make sure she knows I'm ok."

"Ok, just don't be too long." He said.

"Thanks."

I walked with him and clocked out and went to the break room. I called Skylor and explained everything that just happened.

"That's it, I don't want you working there anymore. It's too dangerous." Skylor said once I finished telling her what happened.

"Skylor your missing the big picture. I finally found out who's behind all this and I never would've known unless I took this job." I said.

"Yeah but it's not worth putting you in danger. Now that I have his name I can start to find him. What direction did you see him leave?"

"Once my boss came in he just disappeared into thin air. It's almost like he teleported."

"I was afraid of that." Skylor sighed. "Kai, I think Jett is Olivia's birth father."

"Why would he be after Olivia?"

"That's the part I can't figure out." Skylor said.

"So maybe we need a little more evidence?" I said.

"Fine, but if he shows up again you get out of there ok?"

"Deal." I said. "I'm gonna tell Nya what happened too so she can be prepared."

"Ok. Love you."

"I love you too. Bye." I hung up the phone.

I immediately started texting Nya:

Kai: Hey Nya something just
happened I think you should
know about.

Nya: That you took that job
even after what happened?

K: How did you know about that?

N: Skylor told me.
What were you thinking?

K: We needed the money plus
I could help with the case.
Anyway that's not what I
needed to tell you about.

N: Then what?

K: I found out who it is
and I think Olivia might
be in danger.

N: What? Did Skylor
get the results of the
background check?

K: He doesn't have that much of
a criminal record, but he ran
into me at work and was asking
me about my adopted niece,
and when my boss walked in,
he just vanished.

N: Olivia is getting the power
of teleportation, and she gets
it from her birth father. It had
to be him.

K: It might be best to
keep a close eye on her.

N: Already am. Thanks
for the warning.

K: The one part we can't figure
out is what they would want
with Lloyd and Kira.

N: I have no idea. All I know is
that Jet wants to keep his power
by any means necessary, and he
thinks that taking out Olivia is
the only way to keep it forever.

K: Powers don't work like that.

N: I know that, but he might
not. Just be careful ok?

K: I promise. See
you later sis.

N: See you.

I stopped talking to Nya and texted Lloyd to let him know there was a break in the case:

Kai: Lloyd, we got a
big break in the case.

Lloyd: Really?
What is it?

K: We have his name.
All we need is a motive
and Skylor can arrest
him.

L: That's great!
Who is he?

K: Oh no, I'm not leaving
you to take matters into
your own hands.

L: Why not?

K: I don't want you to do
anything you'll regret.

L: I already have. 😔

K: What?

L: It's a long story.
I'll tell you later.

K: Do you want to meet up
and talk about it? I know
Skylor might want another
interview with you and
Kira anyway.

L: Kira doesn't want to
see me right now.

K: What do you mean?
Did something happen?

L: We're on a bit of a break.
She's just going through a
lot right now and she needs
some space that's all.

K: Where are you staying?

L: I'm with my dad
at Kira's treehouse.

K: I'll come by after work.
We can talk about it over
dinner if you want.

L: No, you really don't
have to do that.

K: Yes I do. You could
use a friend right now.

L: Alright fine. See
you later I guess.

K: See you.

I was a bit concerned for Lloyd after our conversation. He didn't sound like himself and the fact that a perfect couple like him and Kira would split up made me think that something bad was must've happened to lead up to that. Hopefully during my visit I would get the whole story.

After my break was over I tried to go back to work, but I was so unfocused and shaken up after what happened, my boss told me to take the rest of the day off. I really didn't want to because it was my first day, but he insisted. So I decided to head over to Kira's treehouse and let Lloyd know I was on my way.

When I got there, I met Garmadon and Lloyd outside. Lloyd kept holding his side and Garmadon's arm was in a sling.

"Hey guys." I said getting out of the car. "How's it going."

"Could be better." Lloyd frowned.

"What happened?" I asked.

"We got in an accident, but we're ok." Garmadon said.

"Are you sure I can go? I don't want to leave you here alone." Lloyd said to his dad.

"It's ok Lloyd, go with Kai and clear your head." He said.

"Thanks." He said.

He hugged his dad and then jumped in the car. He seemed depressed, like he had something on his mind. I started driving back to town.

"So... where do you want to eat?" I asked, trying to fill the empty silence.

"I don't care." He said still looking out the window.

"Ok, Pancake House?"

"Sure, whatever."

I drove to the restaurant and parked the car. As we were walking in I noticed Lloyd was limping a little and clenching his side. It seemed like he was in a lot of pain.

"Are you ok?" I asked him.

"Yeah, they're just sore from the wreck." He said.

I offered to help him inside, but he refused and walked in by himself, very slowly. We set down in the booth and ordered. Then there was more silence.

"I wanna know his name." Lloyd suddenly blurted out.

"I told you, I can't tell you that."

"Why? He hurt my wife, me, and he..." He suddenly went quiet.

"What?"

He took a deep breath. "Kira was pregnant when it happened. The baby didn't make it."

"Oh Lloyd I'm so sorry. I had no idea." I frowned.

"Neither did she, she was only 2 weeks along." Lloyd frowned and looked away from me.

"No wonder you've been so depressed." I said.

"I've tried my hardest to be strong for Kira, but after I wrote the letter things just kind of fell apart."

"Letter? You mean the letters we wrote for the kids?"

"I grabbed the letter and wrote a secret message to Ryder on the back. I told him everything and I said we would come to pick them up after we catch him."

"So wait they aren't even trying to get off the island anymore?" I frowned.

"I don't know. I left it up to Ryder to decide." He frowned. "The problem was I did all that without telling Kira first."

"Oof. I'm guessing she didn't take it well."

"I'm currently living in a treehouse, what do you think?" Lloyd sighed.

"Why didn't you just go back to the monastery?"

"It's too obvious, he would find us."

"Oh right, makes sense. So what's your plan to pick up the kids?"

"I don't want to until we catch him. They aren't safe as long as he's on the loose."

"Seriously? You're going to keep everyone's kids on that island where they could be facing who knows what?"

"Would you rather them be here with the attempted murderer?"

"I guess not, but now they won't be trying to get back home." I frowned.

"I know, I messed up and I'm sorry, just help me catch him so I can bring them back home. Please?"

I looked at my friend and I could tell he wasn't himself. I really wanted my kids back and I knew Skylor was falling apart over this. If we wanted the kids back, I knew I had to tell him.

"Robert Jetson." I sighed.

"How did you find out?"

"I didn't know until today." I frowned.

"What happened?" Lloyd asked.

"It's a long story." I frowned.

I told him the whole thing. I told him about what happened at work, how we found out, what power he had, and how he kept asking about Olivia. I also explained everything we knew about the case so far.

"We have to find him!" Lloyd yelled.

"Skylor's doing everything she can, but it's a little difficult to catch a master of teleportation." I sighed.

"We can catch him, we have to. If we don't then he gets away with it and he'll..." Lloyd started to freak out.

"Hey relax. We're going to get him I promise." I said.

He took some deep breaths and tried to calm down. He closed his eyes and slowly counted to ten. Once he was done he seemed a little calmer.

"What was that?" I asked.

"Oh, it's something I learned in therapy." He answered. "Kira thought it would be good for me with everything going on. It's actually helping me a lot."

"Well that's good you've got that under control."

"Well technically she sent me to therapy because she's convinced I'm a danger to myself, which I'm not."

"What does that mean?"

"My dad found me on the bathroom floor with my wrist cut. I keep trying to explain that there was someone in there with me who set me up, but no one believes me."

"I mean, you do have a history."

"I haven't felt like that since Ryder was two." He protested. "Anyway that's not what we're here to talk about. I need to talk with Skylor about the case."

"Ok, I'll drive you." I agreed.

I paid the bill and then we got up. I could tell his side was bothering him again.

"Ow!" Lloyd yelled as he tried to stand up. He was holding his side again.

"Alright that's it. I'm taking you to the hospital." I said.

"No, I don't need a... OW!" He yelled as I touched his side.

"Sorry buddy, I'm not taking no for an answer."

"Fine as long as it's a quick stop."

I nodded and walked with him outside to my car. I drove him to the hospital and checked him into the ER. Turns out he had three broken ribs and had to get it treated. While I was waiting on him, two little boys ran up to me and attacked me.

"Uncle Kai!" They screamed.

"CJ, Ben, don't tackle him like that." Seliel yelled. "Sorry Kai, they're a little hyper right now."

"That's ok. Hey kiddos." I smiled at the twins. "What are you guys doing here."

"Oh we're just here for a check up to make sure they're ok after what happened a couple days ago." Seliel said. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm waiting on Lloyd. He's got a few broken ribs from a car accident and he had to get treated."

"Mommy? Can we get something from the vending machine?" CJ asked.

"Yeah we're hungry." Ben begged.

"Fine, but nothing with too much sugar ok?" She said.

"Ok!" They agreed.

Seliel gave them some money and they went to the vending machine in the corner. She sat down next to me in the waiting room.

"So what happened to the boys?" I asked.

"It's the weirdest thing. They said there was a ghost in their room and he made them jump out the window." Seliel explained.

"A ghost?"

"Yeah, I don't understand it either." She frowned. "CJ sprained his wrist and Ben got a bad concussion. They seem fine now, but we're just making sure everything is ok."

"Did you report it?"

"We still don't know if they're telling the truth. I have no idea what really happened." She shrugged. "Anyway, how is Lloyd doing?"

"Honestly I'm kinda worried about him." I frowned. "This whole thing is really getting to him."

"Well yeah, I couldn't imagine Cole going through something like that."

"It's not just Kira, it's everything. It's the kids missing, the guy out on the loose, nis mother dying earlier this year, and Kira doesn't even want to talk to him right now so he's living in her treehouse."

"Whoa, I didn't know that."

"Yeah. It's a big mess." I frowned.

Then Lloyd came out of the room with his ribs wrapped up in bandages.  He still looked like he was in pain but he wasn't limping anymore so I guess that was a good sign.

"Hey Lloyd, how are you feeling?" I asked.

"I'm fine now. Let's go." He said.

"What's going on Lloyd?" Seliel asked.

"Oh, hi Seliel. I didn't know you were here." He said.

"I'm having a check up for the boys." Seliel said.

"Where is Cole?" I asked.

"Oh, he's not a fan of hospitals. We're going to meet up with him later." She said.

"Oh ok." I said. "Come on Lloyd."

"Bye guys." Seliel said.

Lloyd I went downstairs, but as the elevator was opening, Kira was standing on the other side. Lloyd and Kira were starring at each other, not saying a word. I knew this was gonna be awkward.
