➵ A common nickname is 'Noah', it was just a childhood thing that stuck. Noah, Noel- close enough. Noah sounds less formal too for some reason which he actually quite likes.

➵ To keep it simple, Noel is well off for money. He's not as rich as the royals of course but he's definitely rich due to his job. Why? Not only is he the chief soldier of France, but he does all the dirty work too, no questions asked. He knows the drill and he is paid well for the horrible duties has seen through. He is loyal so they have his silence anyway however silencing him with an even better pay naturally came along too...
He is educated and well spoken however he was never the type of kid to read a book growing up. He didn't have the best education but he had some opportunities however, he has always struggled with reading. He can read simple letters which he got better at through his job but something like a book is way too complex for him. He's very embarrassed by the fact that he cannot read and write as well as he should be able to, he just didn't pick it up as well growing up for some reason that he doesn't understand.

Personality||

➵ TOUGH, COLD, BRUTAL
Noel Debois does all the jobs that the King and Queen of France would not want just any ordinary guard doing. This comes with a lot of responsibility as well as seeing and doing some terrible things. He has murdered many people due to the King and Queen commanding him to do so. He trusts them, trusts they have their reasons. He does not need to know these reasons, he just puts his trust in them that there is one that warrants such violence. If they have their reasons, he isn't sure he would like to know anyway. Just get the job done.
He comes across as cold, his face often looking like it has been carved out of marble as most of the time his facial expression is frozen to look blank and emotionless. Is he sad, happy, angry? Honestly, who knows?
The only time that Noah is easy to read is when he's clearly passionate and feeling very strongly however such occasions have not propped up many times throughout his career. If people see his emotions, it tends to be him laughing at ROMEO ROMEO or one of his guards joking around- that or anger. People do not see him sad or weak, he contains that around other people. If he shows weakness he knows there will be plenty of people that will use that weakness to break him down. It won't happen, not on his watch.

He's done some terrible things. Is he a bad person? That could be up for debate. In general he's a very caring person who takes his job seriously and wants to protect the French royal family. He wants to help his country and he will do so, without question. However on the other hand his morals could be questioned. Locality is one thing, but killing whoever the King and Queen want you to with no questions asked? Definitely questionable.

➵ LOYAL
He is an extremely loyal person. One thing that he takes more seriously than anything is betrayal, if you break his loyalty then you are dead to him because it is something he lives by so strongly every single day. He's always been intensely loyal to all of his duties and doing whatever he can for his country. The biggest slap in the face to him would be to betray him.
To him, loyalty is strength and he needs to be a strong leader for his men. He's a natural born leader and to be that, loyalty and trust is needed. He trusts his men, they trust him. Their trust is almost a weapon because it helps he and his men fight better.
Part of his loyalty means that he is the furthest thing from a gossip ever. He cannot stand it, the gossip sheets quite frankly just make him roll his eyes. Surely it gets boring poking into other peoples business. Due to this, any secrets are will be/have been shared with him, especially when it concerns his country, are locked up tight in his own mind.
Good luck trying to break his loyalty, it's one of his main personality traits...

➵ STUBBORN
Another prominent trait of his is how stubborn he is. Sometimes there is a thin line in between his loyalty and stubbornness. He rarely changes his attitude on something or people, even if he should. If someone does something bad to him- he'll remember and his stubbornness often means that his opinion of the person won't shift. They would have to go a lot to prove it and even then he would still have doubts on their character or loyalty.
He can be terrible for arguments, even if he cares about you his stubbornness can take over. He isn't always like this however it is a negative trait that he exhibits in quite a lot of situations. He's also to stubborn to even admit that he's stubborn...

➵ USUALLY QUIET AND BLUNT
Noah isn't a rude or mean person by any means however he is very quiet and blunt. Sometimes people see him as intimidating however he is a sweet guy deep down, he just wants to do his job right. Other people see him as shy, this is also not the case. He's never really been a talker, he's more of a listener and he prefers to listen to other people- especially in big group conversations. When he does speak he can be quite blunt and to the point, some people that don't know him may see this as him being rude but it's nothing personal. Part of not showing weakness means he doesn't talk much about himself which has naturally made any questions about him or his background come out in such a blunt manner.
He's a lot more talkative to people he knows a bit better but even then he prefers to listen to them and how they are doing etc. He doesn't talk about himself, he's quite mysterious in that aspect and he has a really good way of not attracting further questions. Over the years, Noel has developed a talent for changing the topic casually so that it isn't on him.

Despite him doing some terrible things and having quite a crazy job, he does really like quiet and relaxing environments. He finds it nice to have a break from the chaos every now and then however he loves the chaos just as much of course. They are just very different so he likes a balance of both environments.

➵ OPEN MINDED
Noel is a straight, cis, white man, he clearly has every privilege he can get just because of a lucky gamble on something that was out of his control when he was born. Despite all of this, he is actually surprisingly very ahead of his time. When it comes to his men, he does not tolerate bullying or prejudice in any way. Homosexuality is seen as a sin and incorrect, does he understand being homosexual? No. But how is he to speak on an experience he simply doesn't understand?
Of course most people are very religious however is not the biggest believer. He's killed so many people, surely that is to be a sin- yet the people on the throne (the king is believed to be the closest thing to God as God is meant to choose the Kings- thanks year ten history and English lit<3) are the ones who have requested he do so. If him killing multiple people without knowing a reason isn't a sin then surely neither is being homosexual.
He doesn't speak out about these thoughts because he knows not many people would agree with him, he doesn't encourage anything either however if someone told him- it could be in confidence.
Noel actually got strong feelings on this topic when he caught two of his soldiers together. At first he was shocked and concerned, but after speaking to the pair he began to understand more. He cares for people close to him, he's not an outwardly soft person however deep down he feels for people that don't have the same privilege as him and they can't just be who they are.
Again, these are all internal thoughts. He does not believe it is his place to speak upon such topics.

➵ CARING
Noel can be odd when it comes to caring for people. He either is not interested at all and doesn't care in the slightest, or he cares with his whole being and would go to crazy extents to help a person feel better.
When he cares, he cares hard.
This can sometimes make him protective, he's never intentionally possessive however he's seen some terrible things and he wants to protect people he cares about from that. One of his deepest fears is a family member or friend of someone he has killed coming for revenge on someone he cares for.
Again, on the outside he's not all soft but on the inside he certainly is. He just doesn't show it.
If he see's you crying alone, he will look like he doesn't care however he can't help feel obliged to help. He feels sympathy for a lot of people deep down, once again he doesn't show this. His exterior is very cold, cruel, brutal, tough, and emotionless. Deep down he's rather empathetic and caring but he fights hard to not show that. He will try to help though, of course with keeping his 'I don't care I'm super tough and emotionless' reputation up...

➵ SERIOUS & DEDICATED
He's serious pretty much all the time, unless he's really relaxed around you after knowing you for a while. Again, he tends to be more relaxed around ROMEO ROMEO and soldiers that he has worked with for a very long time and trusts completely.
When the time comes though, he goes into complete work mode. He may make a few jokes and comments of course, he's only human (despite him sounding like a literal robot), but when the time calls for it he will do his job and he will do it well.
He's more than dedicated. He would take his life for his job or someone he cares about if he needs to.

BACKGROUND||

➵ Noel was raised well however his parents were very strict, especially his father. He learnt discipline, respect, and loyalty at a young age. They were like this for a while, wanting him to grow up to have the best future he possibly could and to serve his country. His father was an ex soldier so it was always his dream for his son to follow in his footsteps.
He admired his parents and wanted to make them proud. As he became an adult they became less strict and he had a more loving relationship with them since they loosened up a bit, realising he was doing well. He soon started working as a soldier however, he didn't like the idea of killing anyone for a long time. He used to be more outwardly emotional but when his father noticed he made sure to scold him for doing so.
When he was around nineteen his parents passed away, they were the only family he had so this was very tough on him for a while. Their deaths made him push more towards his goals, he wanted to make them proud even though they were no longer here.
However, he also had nothing holding him back either. He became more loyal to work, what else did he have to do? By turning 20 he was definitely a workaholic, he got promoted to the chief soldier of France and work has since been his life.

His fear of killing or doing anything 'bad' soon faded away when the King and Queen put tasks on him that were more serious. After a while there wasn't an ounce of fear, if they were telling him to do such deeds he trusted they would have a reason.
His job is important to him, he wouldn't do anything to jeopardise that. Except falling in love with a certain lady of course...

HOBBIES||

➵ Is work a hobby?

➵ He likes to do target practice with bows and arrows. He finds archery fun and he's good at it, he wouldn't use it for anything serious of course- it's just a hobby for him.

➵ Horse riding, he loves horses amongst other animals. If he has some spare time he loves going up to the stables to find his horse and take him on a ride around the moors.

➵ He's dedicated to his work. He will do whatever he needs to, no questions asked. He gets the job done without making any issues of it.

➵ Noel is loyal, secrets shared with him are certainly safe and if his loyalty is to you then you certainly don't need to worry about him betraying you. It's something he takes very seriously.

➵ He is physically skilled, he's strong yet tactical, he's good in a fight.

WEAKNESSES||

➵ He's constantly consumed in his work, some may see this as a good thing however he doesn't really have relationships outside of the castle. Noah is young so he should really be getting out there more-

➵ Since he has done some very awful jobs, he can come across as quite cold or heartless. These jobs have just hardened him a lot, he does care for people but he can have a hard time showing it or showing empathy.

➵ Noel can be ridiculously stubborn when he wants to be which can also make it hard to maintain relationships.

OTHER||

➵ He has a form of what if now known as dyslexia. This is why his reading and writing is not as good as it should be considering he did get some form of education. However, at this time people did not know what dyslexia was or understand it. This is why he's embarrassed by it, because he doesn't understand.
