The doctor, with the help of a nurse, slowly removed the gauze from her eyes. Before he took out the last one, he tried to encourage her for any outcome.

"Lavinia, I don't want you to open your eyes right away. Take some deep breaths, and when you're ready, open them slowly. Ok?" he told her in a serious way.

She nodded in silence. The chamber was flooded with silent prayers. The doctor took out the last gauze. Lavinia swallowed hard calmly. She kept in mind the worst result, so she wouldn't fall out of the clouds since she never expected anything from this operation in the first place.

She raised her eyelids slowly, while the bright sunlight in the middle of the afternoon, which was coming imposing from the windows, seemed to have no effect on her at all. She stood still making it difficult for others to understand whether she was seeing or not, unlike her doctor who had an expression of confidence.

She blinked a few times. She took a few deep breaths while the bright sunlight began to tear her eyes apart. She turned her head towards Betty. She lifted it up slowly towards Patrick and went on to the doctor and the nurse next to him. "You don't look good in a mustache, doctor. You have to shave it," she said jokingly, confirming to everyone that she was seeing again.

Betty burst into tears by her bedside while Patrick ran madly in joy through the corridors of the hospital.

Vince's acquaintance smiled sideways and made sure to inform him of the pleasant outcome. Vince, when he heard the news, wept and immediately thought of the bad situation Lavinia would find him. He was possessed by an irrepressible desire to recover quickly by regaining his faded glow.

"Lavinia, look at this. You will follow my hand where it goes in slow motion. Are you in pain?" the doctor asked.

"No. Just a little... stinging," she stuttered.

"Ok, that's normal. You will feel that way for at least a month," he told her, then making a series of tests.

"It's a little dull, but I can pick out everything," she said in a low voice, not having even realized she was seeing and was reality, not a dream.

"Yeah, ok. This will wear off. You will not expose your eyes to bright light yet, you will not bend, and you will wear sunglasses and a couple more for the first time until your review," the doctor dictated to her.

The first press release on her health spread a big round of applause from the Press and the world outside the hospital. Smiles were spread everywhere and especially to the people who she had helped in her speeches.

Her booth was filled with flowers, greeting cards, and candy. Kevin rushed to embrace her, after he played a very important role after Vince, in convincing her to do the surgery. "You see that you had to take this step? You got that we were all right?" he said happily.

"Doctor,"

"Yes, Lavinia, tell me."

"I want to thank you so much for everything you've done for me. This will never be enough, but I really thank you very much."

"Our job as doctors is this. With God's help, heal our patients. Well, I'm leaving because I have others to see. Like we said," he dictated to her again.

By his instructions, she got out of bed the same day. Kevin and her siblings arranged for the release. Vince's acquaintance approached her last. "He'd like to see you," he said.

"Lead me to his chamber," she said timidly.

Vince, thin, pale, was nothing like the glamorous artist Lavinia had imagined. He slowly leaned his head toward her. Tears of emotion began to flow from his eyes. She approached him in silence.

"This time you see me. And the vision came for good. It won't leave again," he said, holding her hand.

"I opened my eyes to see what? Where is my light?" she stuttered dismayed at his sight.

"Look as far as your lights go. Leave the after. It was dark, dark will remain. And me, I am now dark," he admitted humiliated.

"Get up, Vince. Get up. Just as you insisted I get up, you get up too. You owe me that," she said sure.

Just seeing her again healthy, ready to conquer life, gave him the courage to regain his strength, fight for his own health, and get up.

The Press waited patiently outside the hospital for her first statement.

"When you care and hurt for others, your pain is healed. In that move, I found a cure. It's the only thing I tried and it paid off in my favor," she humbly told the reporters and returned with her siblings and Kevin to Harbor.

Philip arrived in Vancouver at the first opportunity. He read in the papers the first announcements about the rapid decline of his brother's health.

"Vince, I think you must declare abstention from the artistic world for a little while until you feel better," he advised him with a serious tone.

"Please send a beautiful bouquet of red roses to Vinnie. She found her light and came home. I want the first flowers she sees after her recovery to be mine," he said in awe, ignoring Philip's words.

"I know, Vince, I read it. Her booth was full of flowers, especially the hospital entrance. So he saw a lot! I intend to visit her for an exclusive interview. Besides, now at her house, there will be a rally by journalists," Philip responded.
