"Try to focus more on where you want it to go, instead of just letting it out. You have the motivation down, but you need to learn to better control it. If you don't, you might end up killing someone on our side."

My instructor, an older man with greying side burns, was trying to instruct me on how to better use my ability in the upcoming battle. I didn't think I needed the help, but I didn't have much choice. The commander had cornered me, and the only way out was to fight for him.

Max, my instructor, told me to try hitting the target with my flames again, and I turned to face it. I raised my hands, aiming at the target and allowing myself to let go my inhibitions. I felt the power rising up inside me like a giant, wave of energy, until it concentrated at my hands. Now that I had used the power more often, I was able to distinguish when it was there, and how to draw it out for my use.

And now, with Max's help, I was beginning to focus my flames more accurately. The work was frustrating and hard, but after quite a few hours I could see it was helping. The targets Max set up were growing smaller, so small where I was having trouble spotting them.

He set up a new one when I finally hit the last one, sending it up in flames. It smoked on the ground and Max kicked it towards the pile of other ruined targets. Then he cleared the area and stood back while I took my stance. I held my arms up, pointing my palms towards the target. Breathe in... focus... let out... hold...

But before I could release the pent up energy just beneath my surface, a loud shout called across the training room. I turned to see a young man running towards us, his wild, spiky hair waving about his face. Stick glasses rested on his pointed nose.

"Kyle?" I called in confusion. He ran to a stop in front of me, breathing heavily. He held up a hand for me to wait while he caught his breath.

Once Kyle could speak, he straightened, his eyes wide and bloodshot. "We have to hurry," he said, his voice still heavy.

"Hurry? Where? What's going on?" By now, Max had joined us, watching Kyle with a similar expression to my own.

"The government. They--they've started the attack. We have to prepare."

My eyes went round as I held in my suprise quite unsuccessfully. "We're under attack?"

"Yes. We got word that they had captured one of our own and got the location to the base. They haven't penetrated the wall yet, but we have to hurry. The commander wants everyone out there now." Kyle grabbed for my arm, trying to tug me along. I hesitantly followed him, sending Max a glance as we headed for the Max.

"You better go then," he urged me. "And I need to get ready then." He turned and headed in the opposite direction.

I picked up my pace and hurried after Kyle who had abandoned trying to pull me and was running towards the door. It was time to fight. And then, when it was over, I would have my freedom back.

"Hurry and strap on your armor. The commander is expecting our squad to join in two. You hear me, slack-jawed yellow bellies?" Our squad leader, Kanyis, a tough woman who didn't have a smooth feature on her, was shouting at us. I had been put with this squad since I didn't officially have one, and hurried to finish getting ready.

We were all given black body armor that protected our heart and major organs. And for those who didn't have special abilities, they had guns. I, on the other hand, just had my hands. Oh, and several knives tucked into my belt and combat boots. Max and told me it was always good to bring extra weapons, and my former trainer said that as well. You could never be too careful.

"Let's move out, squealers!" Kanyis rolled her finger towards the door and strode towards it, the rest of the squad falling into line. There were almost twenty of us, and I only spotted two others who didn't have a large gun strapped on them. Two with some type of ability, not to mention me.

We headed through the wide tunnels to the wall, the large, main entrance where we were being assaulted. The main battle was going on outside, but the government was striking hard and fast and if we didn't push them back, Kanyis told us they would overcome the base.

That thought did nothing to ease the apprehension I already felt from doing this. I wanted to be with the twins. I wanted to get them out of here and somewhere safe. But I was stuck fighting for a bunch of fools.

As we neared the source of fighting, the noises of gunfire and shouting grew louder. We turned the corner and the chaos was revealed before us. The main hangar had been turned over into a mess of broken vehicles and makeshift barricades. The doors were wide open, several dented in large sections which led me to believe we weren't doing so well.

Kanyis directed us to the right where a large tank was stationed, blasting at the enemy and providing ample cover. "Listen up," she said once we had gathered around. "The government has endless resources, power, and strength. We're just one group. But we have something they don't. Conviction." A few men snorted, and I found myself raising an eyebrow at her. She didn't strike me as the sappy, cliche type.

"Laugh if you want, children," Kanyis snapped, shutting everyone up. "But I mean it. We are fighting for a worthy cause. They want to eradicate people because they are different, even better than the rest of us. And that's wrong. So get out there and make them pay." Her face took on a devious gleam, and I found myself impressed with her "before we die" speech. If I hadn't been so concerned with my kids, I would have been inspired to go fight and die as well.

"Hashin and Jaune, take left flank. They need support over there. The rest of you follow me. And ready yourselves. You see someone shoot at you, shoot them first."

WOAH. O.O I updated. How weird is that????

.__. yes yes I know. Horrible updating schedule. It's been way too long. Blah blah blah. I get it. But there's a reason! I promise!

I'm kinda getting... bored of the story. *le gasp* I know it's horrible! I still love the characters, don't get me wrong. But I started this on a whim, before I had anything really planned out (I know I know, don't need to call me out. I shouldn't have done it. And I've learned my lesson). But now I just wanna get it finished up so I can start something new :D

Anyways, sorry 'bout that. If there's any of you left reading this, then hello! *waves* Thanks :)
