The buzzing dissonance of sounds brings me awake. Something pulls my eyes open  despite my constraint. The indiscernible blur of objects gradually turns clear as I look around exhaustingly. Something about the idyllically white-coated room pours me a dose of unfamiliarity and scare. Where am I right now? I have no idea. Nothing reminds me of anything that would help bring back my memory, or at least the nearest occurrence that brought me here.

‘Think, Lace. Hard.’ I notice myself pushing for a thought, but nothing happens. I am too tired for any reasoning to come.

I pivot my head and see a group of people rushing in. Two of them look suave in carefully ironed black suits. Their look screams businessmen and businesswoman. The rest are all in white blouses, carrying the precise image of doctors and nurses. So I am on a bed in a hospital. Cool. Why am I here? What happened to me? Well, at least I’m alive.

“Ms. Rochester. I am so glad you are awake” – The woman in black raises her voice. True happiness is painted all over her beautiful face. I’ve never met her before, that I’m sure of. Why does she know my last name? Why does she feel truthfully happy when I’m awake?

I raise my voice to ask but nothing comes. Noticing me, she speaks up,  signifying me to stop.

”You don’t have to say anything, Ms. Rochester. We’ve got everything taken care of” – She smiled diplomatically with the corner of her mouth raised a bit. This is how a lawyer smiles at her customers. This has to be it, I’m certain. I can’t be wrong because I’m brought up in a family where two people smile at each other this way and they are both lawyers. Influential ones. Like their names were all over the place in the news, magazines, everywhere. They work with football stars and singers and hang out with those actors and actresses you can only see on the silver screen, who are their prospective clients. But what matters right now is why I am here in a hospital with a lawyer by the side of the bed?

As she can mind-read, she speaks up: “I’m Rachel Willie. I'm a lawyer representing my client, Mr. Louis Wellington. The reason I am here today is because we have a case between you and Mr. Wellington. But as far as I’m concerned, you’re looking weak right now so personally I think we shall discuss about it later. You just take some time and relax. When you fully resilient, we’ll meet up and solve the problem between us. How does that sound?” – She stops and that light smile crawls back where her lips are. Well, she’s confident. Must be a lawyer thing. And manipulative. Must be another lawyer thing.

Still having no idea whproblem we have, even the slightest one, I want to question her but the fatigue in any muscle of my body tells me to nod in agreement and I follow its order.

”Perfect” – She titles her head to the left and looks at me with the fakest concern she can pull off. “Get well soon, Ms. Rochester”. With that, she exits the room, dragging along the man in black, who seems like he just took some drinks.

I watch them leave with entangled thoughts. My head hurts. As a natural reflex, I wrinkle my forehead. That’s when the doctor raises his voice. “Ms. Roschester”.

P/s: I know this is not really enthralling like most of you expect it could be. Forgive me because I am still trying to make up my mind what to write next. I really love the idea of this story but at the same time  I'm struggling with the way it will develope and everything. Therefore, I'm putting up a promo, like half of the first chapter to see if you guys are excited for more to come. If you are, let me know and I'll make myself think for something to add up to the storyline and keep up writing it. Thanks a lot, guys.

Happy Holidays!
