***

It was evening. The heat of the day had ebbed to a comforting warmth. The sunshine had lost its brightness. The evening had also sent the birds to their roosts and the crickets to sing in the swaying grasses.

Avinash leaned against the car after putting the bags into the car. He waited for the rest of his family. He kept waiting until he had to yell: girls hurry up! How many more bags will you bring to Mumbai?

A woman in her mid 40s came out of the house with two more suitcases and said to the man: we're making sure that we got everything with us and that we're not leaving anything behind. You know it's great that I got a job in Mumbai and our eldest daughter got a job in Mumbai.

Avinash: I know Sneha that it is amazing that you both got a job in the same city but can you tell those two to hurry up please?

The woman in her mid 40s a.k.a Sneha: fine I will. Just calm down please.

Avinash: thank you.

Sneha: Gauri, Kamala COME OUT RIGHT NOW!

The scene shifted from Sneha and Avinash to the inside of the house. A young teenage girl with fair skin and long dark hair got a suitcase and a bag then said: didi, come on. We're only moving to Mumbai because of you and Mum so please hurry up else Mum and Dad will kill us.

A young woman with the same fair skin and long dark hair came as a blur. As the blur slowly vanished; you could see her small heart lips that were painted baby pink, her dove shaped eyes which were the colour of honey but they also had deep swirls of brown in them, her ears carried small golden hoop earrings, she was wearing a baby blue salwar kameez. Yes she was our lovely Gauri. Gauri got the last suitcase and said: Kirti, you go inside. I'm coming.

The teenage girl a.k.a Kamala: okay didi, come quick though.

Gauri nodded as Kamala went outside. Once Kamala was gone, she looked around the house. If she had it her way then she would have stayed in this house and in this city, Jaipur but...unfortunately she couldn't get any jobs in Jaipur and she only got a job in Mumbai. Even if she didn't get a job in Mumbai, her mother still did. Her lips let out a sigh and then with the suitcase, she walked out of the house then with the keys, she locked the door then gave the keys and suitcase to Avinash. Once she did that, she went to sit in the back seat.

...

Inside the club it was like dancing on the Northern Lights; beneath the dry-ice smoke swirled an array of blues, acid greens, hot pinks and gold. The music played over the dance floor as if had fused with the bodies. Many were dancing on the dance floor, some were at the bar ordering drinks and others were at the tables with their drinks and gossiping. The scene shifted to one table with a group of girls.

Girl 1: I can't believe Omkara Singh Oberoi hasn't came yet.

Girl 2: even I can't believe this. Normally as soon as the club opens, he is here.

Girl 3: where could he be? Mishti, has he texted you?

Mishti, wearing a sparkly black dress, looked from her phone...she had dark brown eyes that would remind you of milk chocolate, her lips were coloured wine red, she swifted her curls behind and said to the girls: no he hasn't texted me at all.

Girl 1: I guess tonight everyone will have to enjoy without Om.

Mishti: true. You know what? If he is not going to come then we should click some selfies. Once he sees these pictures on Instagram, then he will be upset that he missed out a great night.

Girl 3: good idea. Come on girls.

Mishti clicked on the camera app on her phone and she started to take selfies with her friends. As she was taking selfies, a man entered the club.

This man was smiling, his beard was not too scruffy and not too clean shaved...it was just right. His eyes were so black and so deep like a bottomless well. They were so dark that it would feel like you was looking into an endless stretch of the midnight sky. His hair was not too long, not too short...his dark black hair laid wavy on his shoulders. There was a diamond stud on his left ear. He was wearing a black shirt which was tightly fitted around him and it had very short sleeves, showing off his carefully toned muscles and flat stomach.

Girl 2: arre look who just arrived.

Mishti looked from her phone to see Om. Once she saw him, she told her friends that she was going to go to him then went up to talk to him.

Mishti: Om baby, finally you came! But you are so bad.

Om: why am I so bad?

Mishti: arre because you are so late. You said you would be here in 5 minutes and now you are here after 20 minutes. You know I thought you weren't going to come.

Om: well I am sorry baby and is it possible for Omkara Singh Oberoi to miss a party?

Mishti laughed and said: but you was late.

Om: I am a human being, I am allowed to be late right Mishti?

Mishti: voh toh hai but still, you could have left a text.

Om: let Omkara Singh Oberoi make up for that...any drink you order tonight, leave it on my tab.

Mishti: but Om, I can pay for my own drinks.

Om: I know but I made a mistake so please let me pay for the drinks. If your friends want drinks, then they can also leave it on my tab.

Mishti: Om there is no need. We can all buy our own drinks.

Om: you know you remind me of someone.

Mishti: which girl is it? Ishana? Riddhima? Svetlana? Varshu? Aditi? Nupur? Disha? Samantha? Aarna? Prisha? Lisa?

Om: none of those girls. You know those girls but the girl I'm on about is a girl from my past...

Khulke Jeene Ka Tareeka Tumhe Sikhate Hain
Haske Dekho Na Lateefa Tumhe Sunate Hai
Umar Ke Sal Kitne Hai Gin Gin Ke Kya Karna
Beet Jaye Na Ginti Mein Hi Varna

A girl was shown smiling and laughing. You couldn't see her face but she was twirling around, he could hear her anklets in the background.

Aao Film'On Ke 'BeAdab' Gane Gate Hai
Heroine-Hero Aj Hum Tum Ban Jate Hai

Her face still wasn't shown but a younger him was shown. All you could see was the girl's back as she walked down the stairs and then she was pulled by him. He looked at her with love and his hand reached her ponytail. He took the hair tie out letting her tresses free.

Mishti: Om, Om, OMKARA SINGH OBEROI!

Om blinked a couple of times and then said: what happened Mishti?

Mishti: you went into some daydream, was it about that girl you was just on about?

Om: oh is someone jealous?

Mishti: me and jealous? What a horrible match! You was just in some daydream and I was trying to get you out of it.

Om: well thank you Mishti, come on let's get some drinks and hit that dance floor which is looking empty without me.

Mishti laughed, nodding and they went to the bar.

...

In the car, Gauri was looking out of the window, dreamily. She opened the small window of the car letting the wind play with her hair. As the wind was playing with her hair, she started thinking...

Gauri in mind: after 7 years, I'm finally coming back to Mumbai. In these 7 years, I never chose to move on from him. Is he still in Mumbai? Will I meet him in Mumbai? Does he still look the same? Does he still act the same? Has he moved on? Maybe he has and why am I thinking about him? Remember Gauri, you are going to Mumbai because you have a job...focus on your job only. People said when I was 16 that my future was ruined but now it's time to prove to them that my future isn't ruined.

Suddenly a song came on the radio and some memories came flooding back to Gauri...

Khulke Jeene Ka Tareeka Tumhe Sikhate Hain
Haske Dekho Na Lateefa Tumhe Sunate Hai

A younger version of her was shown, walking with some books in her hands. She was suddenly stopped by a male figure but the face wasn't shown. His hands took the books from her and he kept it in his locker. She smiled as he offered her his hand. They walked off, hand in hand....

So questions of the day:

Who was that girl Om was thinking about?

Who was that boy Gauri was thinking about?

Why did people think that Gauri's future would be ruined at 16?

Target: 20+ votes and 10+ comments
