The days felt like years the more time I spent on this boat. It was almost maddening. How could someone even live here? At least on land it had different landscapes. Here it was just... Water...
I watched out at this now endless water in the crows nest, not really wanting to deal with other members. I'm still the laughing stock, no matter how much I prove to them I'm useful. I sighed, pulling my legs up to my chest to keep out the cold wind.
"How could anyone like living like this," I mumbled quietly, letting the rocking boat calm me. My thoughts trailed over to the captain, making heat rise in my cheeks. He had been almost avoiding me after the island encounter. At some points I was grateful for it, other times... I seemed to... Miss him.
"Shut up," I growled to myself, "he's a selfish arse who doesn't care about you."
"Who's that again," the voice startled me, making me whip my head around to face the captain. He was still one the outside, leaning against a mesh of rope. I felt my face heat up in embarrassment, which wasn't a first.
"None of your business," I mumbled, turning so I wouldn't face him. I heard him climbing in, feeling him sit next to me.
"Kind of it. You are," I cut him off.
"Your property. Yeah, I heard about a million times," I rolled my eyes, once again pulling my knees to my chest. I didn't hear him arguing. I wasn't wrong, he clearly states to me constantly. Sometimes it's like he wants me to be torn apart.
"You still... Feel like that," the hurt in his voice threw me way off, but I still refused to look at him.
"You're not denying it," I huffed out. I didn't hear him speak for a few minutes, allowing me a chance to recollect my thought to the waves crashing against the ship.
"You're also horrible at emotions," I threw in the comment, seeing if I could at least make him talk.
"Well," he paused, probably thinking up of a comeback, "least I have more than sass and agitation."
Ok, that stung. I wasn't that snappy... Was I?
"Least I don't toy with emotions."
"In definitions, you," I could almost see his smirk.
"Excuse me," I turned to face him, glaring at him. He was smirking, and it only grew.
"You're just proving my earlier point of only anger in you. Seriously, how could a princess have that much?"
"Maybe if one, you didn't call me princess. Two, didn't kidnap me. And three, force me on this ship," I watched his smirk fade into hurt.
Ok, maybe what he said was true...
"If you would of asked..."
"Ever thought of giving me that chance a few days back," I snapped, really not caring anymore if I was thrown off.
"Not really, wanted to see if you fit in..."
"Or you just wanted to treat me like a slave," I counterattacked.
"I never expected you to be this difficult," he argued back.
"Oh, so you admit to having slaves before me?"
"How do you think my crew appeared? Magic? Doesn't exist."
He stumped me at that. I wanted to mention the magic thing, but we already cleared that.
"I wouldn't just pick random strangers like the Creatures or any other ship. They'll turn as soon as money is involved. Each one of these members was treated just like you. How do you expect them to take a sword to the side for you? I'd do the same for them. It's trust. Not one will leave for a better position. Ask away. I dare you."
Damn, he was smarter than I thought. It got me wondering who was even his old captor, and if he did the same to him.
"Who taught you that," I slightly questioned, lower my voice. His face drained of color, touchy subject. Should of not asked.
"No one," he almost whispered it.
"S-sorry," I looked down at my knees, letting the venomous atmosphere evaporate.
Only after a few seconds, he was getting up from his spot.
"Where are you going," I couldn't even believe myself when I heard myself speak with such fear, it even had him turning to face me.
"Don't have I have a ship to lead," I flinched at his sarcasm, remembering when I said that.
"Don't... You have someone else to watch it," I gave him a shrug, making the words sound like a question. He paused a moment, then let out a small chuckle.
"Yeah... I guess I do," he slowly turned back and sat down by me. I let out a quiet sigh of relief.
"I need to ask you something," I quickly spoke up, getting his attention again. I took in a deep breath.
Now or never.
"How do you see me," I spoke quietly, starting straight into his eyes. He bit his lip, averting his gaze for a second before looking back.
(Right at this point I was absolutely having no ideas and it was taking forever)
"Well... You have long black hair," he gave me a sly smile.
"Haha very funny," I spoke with sarcasm, seeing if he picked up that I wasn't in the mood for jokes.
"Then... I see you as a crew member. A part of this family," he sounded honest, not what I expected. It threw me off.
"Nothing more," I barely recognized my voice as it came out as a whisper.
"Unless you want more," he gave me a smirk, which got me smiling a little.
"Then how do you see me," he continued, making me become tongue tied.
"Well... Really... You see," I couldn't get the words out, it made him laugh under his breath.
"Here. Let me take a guess," he took my chin and pulled me closer to him, placing his lips on mine. It took me by surprised mostly, but I wasn't refusing it.
The kiss only lasted seconds before an inhuman screech brought us apart, more like jolting away and landing roughly on one of the edges. I groaned and sat up, leaning over the edge of the crows nest to see who did it.
It was no surprise that the two inhuman ones were fighting again.
The mer guard thing had fawn boy pinned once again, baring his teeth like when we first saw him. They'd been fighting non stop. Only way to make them stop was for Sky to interfere or the captain getting mad.
I looked over at him now, seeing that he looked as agitated as I felt.
"They're both creatures," he commented.
"That's like saying we're the same as horses," I argued back. He just nodded, staying where he was and watched.
No one else was on deck, but if the two kept screaming they'll be a mess of people.
"Bloody arseholes are gonna start fights everywhere," I whispered under my breath, now really meant for anyone else to hear.
"A mouth like yours shouldn't be used in such a foul way," the captain commented, moving closer to me.
"And how should it be used," I questioned teasingly.
He didn't answer, he instead acted and pressed his lips against mine again, this time with more force. I pressed in with the same force, actually enjoying it. I pulled back after I had lost all the air in my lunges.
He pressed his forehead against mine, breathing heavily.
"So," he finally spoke after catching his breath, "what does my princess desire?"
