Chapter 22

The Tournament Champion

I stared in disbelief at a defeated Preston. Corvin beat him. Barely. That Meinshao is something to look out for. Preston's eyes were filled with disappointment. He wanted to win more than anything. Corvin put on his smug face and soaked up the attention. I wanted to break his jaw so badly.

This is where Cress would've threatened Corvin or told me not to attack him. Cress. We got him out just in time. We brought him to the hospital and told a lie about what happened. The story was that we were walking on one of the nature trails by the beach and a Pokemon or something attack him. We couldn't see what it was. It happened so fast. Whenever they found a flaw in our lie or asked a question we couldn't answer we would say it happened so fast. We couldn't comprehend it. He's in a coma and the doctors don't know if he'll wake up. He was transported to a hospital in Hoenn to be treated closer to home.

It's been really hard on Jase. Cress is his best friend after all.

I hugged Preston after he walked off the battlefield.

"I am so sorry. I know what winning meant for you."

He hugged me back and smiled weakly,"You'll just to beat him for me."

I already qualified for the Championship match. Corvin would be my opponent. I was ready for him. I've noticed lately that Mr. Curt was absent for most of day during our battles and I could hear him making calls on at the hotel. He was always on edge like he was ready to take someone out if he had to.

I stepped up to the battlefield. Corvin looked me down and thought that he would surely win. It didn't feel right without Cress cheering me on. I swear I was going to go deaf from the noise this crowd had been producing for three days!

"Hey!" Corvin called out, "Maybe if you beg I won't hurt you precious Vulpix. How about if I win you give me a little kiss?"

"Hope you like getting kissed on the lip with my fist!" I threatened.

"A little feisty aren't we? Let's change that."

He brought back his arm with his Pokeball in hand and threw it like you would skip a stone on water. The Pokeball spun and opened up to show a Scraggy with its hands clenched on its skin that would act as a shield at anytime.

I grabbed my Mudkip's Pokeball and threw it in the air. It snapped open and Blue came jumping out.

"Scraggy, use Headbutt."

Scraggy ran straight for Blue knocked its skull against his. Blue wasn't quick enough to dodge the attack.

"Blue!" I shouted, "Use Water Gun!"

Blue sprayed a long mouthful of water at his opponent. Scraggy was pushed back a little bit and seemed to be slightly stunned. Now was the time to attack.

"Now use, Take Down!"

Blue charged at the Shedding Pokemon, he left behind a trail of white light behind him.

"You know what to do, Scraggy." Corvin said confidently.

Scraggy pulled up its access skin to cover his chest. Blue's attack was useless against the protective skin of Scraggy. Blue was repelled to the ground, damaged with recoil.

"Low Kick!" Corvin commanded.

Scraggy kicked the defenseless Mudkip across the battlefield.

"Finish that useless thing with Rock Tomb."

Blue was buried with large rocks that Scraggy pulled out of the ground. Scraggy stood on top of the pile victorious. So I thought.

The mound of rocks shook and exploded with a brilliant light. Scraggy was sent flying through the air and landed hard at its master's feet. A Mudkip didn't come out of the rubble but a Marshtomp did. His skin turned to a teal and he grew immensely in size. His fin turned black as did his tail.

He stuck his arms into the ground and it shook violently. He was using Earthquake! Scraggy could barely get up after the attack.

"Blue, use Mudshot!"

A huge mud ball came hurling out of his mouth and nailed Scraggy. He was out for the count. Corvin was furious he returned Scraggy and I followed suit with Blue.

"Meinshao, go!"

"Vulpix, come on out!"

Both Pokemon came out ready to fight to the end. Vulpix glared as Meinshao took a fighting position.

"Flamethrower, Vulpix!" I yelled.

Vulpix opened her jaw and flames sprouted from her mouth. Meinshao was hit directly but it wasn't going to be enough to defeat it.

"Meinshao, Power-Up Punch!"

Meinshao drilled it's fist into Vulpix's side. Meinshao's attack would get stronger as a side effect to the move.

"Flame burst!"

Vulpix launched the fireball at her foe. Meinshao side stepped but the fireball caught its leg and the Fighting type fell. It quickly got up.

"Drain Punch, now!"

Meinshao delivered another blow with a green glowing fist. Vulpix staggered back from the punch.

"Flamethrower again!"

Vulpix unleashed another stream of fire at the Meinshao. The Fighting-Type dodged and came in close Vulpix enough for a Power-Up Punch.

Vulpix slide across the battlefield from the attack. She cried out in pain. I wanted to help her so badly.

"Vulpix!" I called out to my friend. "Vulpix, please we can't give up now. We have to win for Preston and Cress and everyone else counting on us. Please find the strength to fight. We have to give it our all!"

Vulpix got up slowly. She panted and grunted as flames engulfed her. The crowd went silent. The flames seemed so real like it was a fire someone lit to a huge pile of wood, as it crackled and danced on her. They grew bigger and bigger until they scattered in the direction of Meinshao.

"Is that an Inferno attack?" The announcer asked melodramatically.

Meinshao was buried in the flames and was unable to dodge them. The fire cleared and Meinshao was defeated. I'll never forget the smile that came across Vulpix and me. Everyone was cheering my name. Preston trapped me in his embrace. I was so happy. Little did I know that tomorrow I would be fighting for my life.

Author note: Sorry for the wait I am so sorry. I have been busy with Thanksgiving coming up and I have Basketball and a lot of other stuff that consumes most of my time. Only one chapter left of this book! Also I have noticed nobody has really been participating in the things I do in Pokemon and Beyond. It would mean a lot to me if you guys would check it out and have fun with it. Sorry for the long silence I've had for a long time but hopefully with break coming up I will be able to write more.
