My Baby Boy, My Light

My baby boy, on shoulder perched tonight.

We rock in chair. I sing a simple tune.

You light our home with sparkles of delight.

I whisper words of love with peaceful croon.

My cheek above your head, it softly rests.

Your scent I breathe and flames of love abound.

Your fist, you suckle hard. It fails your tests.

You fuss for milk to fill your tummy round.

Our eyes, they lock. My lips do upward turn.

Your suckling stops. You grin. I softly gasp.

I vow to keep you safe, an oath I burn.

Your tiny fingers circle my thumb and clasp.

Our hearts ignite with fire of love aglow.

New journeys rise together spirits grow.
