Let's start with the first things the readers see. The plot was very intriguing, and original as well. The fact that it was based on the present is original, as books with these kind of plots are based on the past. The title also matches the story very well. The summary off the book though, seems a little congested and as a result: off-putting. The case is the same with the cover, it seems like the person design is it tried to hard to make it "dark" or "mysterious".

Now when reading the book, it seems that the chapters are too short, I feel like they'd have a lot of potential if they were longer. I also think the author concentrated a lot on the unfortunate realities of the characters, that they forgot to actually give them more personality. They could be so much more mysterious, intriguing, and so much more. Also, sometimes, the author's divided the paragraphs in a strange way; for example, the paragraph starts with 'she continued' and such; I think they can have a better place in the paragraphs before.

Also, the quotes, structural diagrams etc. could be a much better fit if you somehow tweak them along with the story. The former will help give the characters a little more edge, while the latter could be very well described with creative wording.

I honestly think this story has a lot of potential, I think maybe making it a little bit more suspenseful or adding a sudden realism would help. I'm pretty sure the author's got the hang of plot twists, but try to make them a little more subtle. Also, you could try to use simple but enticing words like "alluring", for example, to describe the scenery more. It would be truly beautiful. See what I did there? *wiggles brows*

Anyway, in conclusion, this work of art needs work, a lot of it, but that work is, in my opinion, pretty easy to master. Maybe try reading more mystery/thriller/horror books? It wasn't bad.
