When Diana thought of coming out, she always thought of the finality of it all. You couldn't really take back what was said when you came out. You could pretend it didn't happen along with everyone else, everything could go well and you didn't have to pretend like it never happened or shit hit the fan and before you knew it everything was upside down. Fearing the latter of those outcomes, she remained Dick to everyone around her. She could play the part very well so no one suspected that she'd come to understand she wasn't a boy which she was rather proud of considering her family was made up of the best detectives Gotham could offer and her friends were well-known heroes with a knack for finding secrets. The very fact that the Dick Grayson he/him pronouns haver act had gotten her so far since her realisation was almost incredible. But with the act came consequences. There was guilt when she stole make-up from Steph or Barbara, the name she no longer identified with felt like knives against her psyche when she heard it and the clothes that only accentuated the parts of herself she couldn't correct with contour alone reminded her everyday that she was hiding. That could only go on for so long. There was one thing that brought her joy without the hang-ups of gender and that was being Robin. The name itself was gender-neutral and even the villains kept it gender-neutral with brat, little birdie and other unoriginal spins for pain in the ass. It helped that she was surrounded by powerful women too so she knew she could make it as her true self but she didn't know how true that self would be. None of them was trans like she was. It was one thing to be a woman who protected the city yet there was another hurdle she'd jump through as a trans woman. Was thirteen the right time for that weight on her shoulders? She supposed the weight of the world she'd been carrying there since nine couldn't get any heavier. Besides, she was plenty capable of handling herself if things didn't go right when she told the truth to everyone. She wasn't like other thirteen-year-olds. She could handle herself, forge a few records here and there to say she was moved into somebody else's care if worst came to worst. She just couldn't live under the false pretence of Dick Grayson anymore. At the very least, the person she named herself after should know but she couldn't very well tell her and expect it to remain a secret. No, she had to go all out. Rip it off like a plaster. One big massive plaster because she apparently had to be adopted by everyone in a five-mile radius. Damn her adorable features and likeability!

Nevertheless, she woke up that morning and sat through breakfast decidedly unhappy with who she was remaining a secret. She heard her name one too many times which wasn't too surprising given just how many people were living there. There were even more due to the family mission that weekend. The pieces were lined up for her and she wondered if this was her sign. Even if it wasn't, she was taking the chance. When things got quiet, she chewed on her bottom lip and pushed some food about her plate. There was another sign. She glanced around the room to gauge the mood of that morning. Damian was stoic as was Bruce. Tim was chatting to Steph, Cass carefully pitching in with glances. That's all she ever needed to get her point across. It was amazing. Jason was eating his food fast as usual. She wondered if it came from the fear of never knowing where his next meal would be. They never asked, he never told. Not in the time she'd been there at least. Barbara kept sending her looks that represented their own little language. She kept asking if it was okay to take things to put on her plate. Alfred moved around the table every so often to replace or take things away. Always taking care of them. She'd miss him if things changed. She shifted in her chair and took a deep breath. "Uhm, I'd like to uh say something," she announced before she could truly take in that this was it.

"Did you kill someone?" Damian asked a little too quickly.

"What? No!"

"Then it's out of my hands. Unless you maimed, tortured or killed someone then I'm of no use."

"You don't even know what it's about!" she exclaimed.

"Is it about any of those three?"

"No!"

"Then I stand by my statement. Continue with whatever teenager angst troubles you," he continued. She groaned with frustration at the older but pressed on with it. The cards were on the table now and even if they couldn't see them, she would always know they were there. There was no running away from it now no matter how easy it would be.

"Dick, are you okay? Is there trouble at school? Trouble with your team?" Tim questioned. The name felt like ice rubbing against salted skin but she didn't say anything. She just swallowed the discomfort that appeared as she swallowed the pain of lingering injuries from work.

"Did they do something?" Steph asked. Her voice held genuine concern and Diana had to admit that her initial statement wasn't the best way to begin. "We'll make sure they pay if they have."

"Will you guys just let me say something without interrupting?" she snapped. She winced at herself but again pushed through it. Now they could definitely see her hand on the table and if there was any chance beforehand then there was no chance now. "I-I've known this for a while and I don't know how you'll react. I just want you to know I'm the same person I just can't live like this."

"Oh God, you're giving up Robin," Jason gaped, gaining harsh shushes for doing the very thing she asked them not to do. He put his hands up in surrender.

"I'm not, I'm giving up Richard."

"What do you mean?" Bruce asked. She took a shaky breath as the weight felt indescribably heavier than ever before and she felt it sit on her chest rather than securely on her shoulders but she continued to push because what else was there to do other than push?

"I mean that I'm not a boy. I'm not Richard or Dick or Dickiebird or whatever spin on my name there is. I'm Diana and I'm a girl so please don't kill me."

There was a prolonged pause. She could hear her own breathing and the blood rushing in her ears and then her heart was pounding like a police officer's knock against her chest. Yet she remained in her seat despite the urge to run away from the situation altogether. Mexico was nice this time of year. Switzerland was always on the bucket list. Maybe India or Egypt. Only she couldn't move to make any of those plans. She couldn't lift a finger to book a ticket or pack her bags. All she could do was sit and wait for something to happen. She heard the screech of a chair and her eyes immediately flicked up to see Cass coming toward her. For a split second, she feared what would come of it until she saw that soft smile that always comforted her. Warm arms wrapped around her and she immediately melted into the hug. The weight that had settled on her chest now moved to her shoulders where it could be distributed properly. She felt the tightness that had been brought on by the reveal slowly loosen its hold on her. If she cried, she didn't realize until Cass had pulled away and cupped her face to sweep away the tears with her thumbs. "Diana?" Cass questioned, as though to clarify the name. Her voice was enough to make Diana let out a sob. It was wonderful. Genuine interest in her and her name was something she never knew she craved.

"Yeah, Diana. After uh after Wonder Woman."

"Good choice," Jason commented softly, getting a few nods in agreement. She was always his favourite hero even if he said he didn't have one. They'd all seen the pyjamas and found his not so secret stan account.

"You think she'll mind?" she asked nervously. She never even thought about asking before adopting the name. It had always felt right and the history had added significance but then again, it wasn't really her history.

"I think she'll love it," Steph assured her. "So, she/her pronouns right?" She nodded and they all seemed to acknowledge the change. Even Damian who she wasn't sure about given his knack for disliking change.

From there, the mood changed swiftly again. It returned to the normalcy of their breakfast and she breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't know what she wanted other than acceptance but she enjoyed that everyone had taken the time to listen then didn't change was didn't need to be changed. "Hey, I know this might not be the best time to ask but were you the one that took my lipstick?" Barbara asked. Diana blushed bright red before nodding slowly as though the blush hadn't just ratted her out. Luckily, the ginger just smiled and messed up her hair as payback. "Next time ask. B, you can give us some money for the shopping trip."

"Shopping trip?" Bruce questioned, sipping his coffee.

"Yeah, she'll need new clothes and makeup too. Oh, let's get your ears pierced!" she explained. Clearly, she was already excited at all the new possibilities. "We could make a girls day out of it."

"In the meantime, I'll get on the paperwork," Tim offered.

"I can get you estrogen for cheap," Jason suggested through a mouthful of food.

"She's getting that from a doctor," Bruce chipped in, eyeing his foster son. He'd figure out where that dealer was eventually and make sure the supply was fine. "Speaking of, we can get that sorted for you but I've not got an opening until this Wednesday."

"That's fine B. Just accepting me is enough," Diana replied.

"Of course," Damian stated. "That was the bare minimum. I'll cut the tongues out of the people who say different." She believed that too and, although it gained a disapproving look from their father, made her feel all the more safer that her place within the family hadn't been shaken. "What of the team? Will you tell them?"

"They still don't know my identity outside of Robin. I think I like it that way for now. Gives me more confidence I suppose?" Diana explained. "I doubt they'd be against it, just not too sure I'm ready to let everyone know who we are because it's not just me when I reveal who I am." They nodded and the meal continued as usual.

Coming out to the team was much easier than coming out to her family. All she did was wait until their line up where Black Canary called her name out for the training order. "Oh just by the way BC, I'm using she/her pronouns now," she said simply. The blonde nodded with a smile and made a note of it, likely to change it in her personal files of their progress.

"Why have you changed your pronouns?" M'gann asked.

"Because I'm coming out as transgender. I identify as a girl," she answered confidently. The alien hummed in understanding.

"Dammit, now my uncle will make us sleep in separate rooms," Wally complained with a taunting tone.

"Good, I'll actually be able to sleep when I stay at yours. You snore so loud dude."

"Dude- wait, is dude still cool?"

"Considering you call Artemis dude, I'll allow it."

"And that there folks is gender equality," Artemis pitched in. "Welcome to the girl's team, Rob."

"Does it come with a discount?"

"It comes with the pink tax and a glass ceiling."

"Eh, I'll make do." And once again, everything went back to normal with the only changes being the ones she wanted all along.
