Softpaw stretched and yawned, she walked over to the prey pile and grabbed a fat squirrel. The cat lay down and took a bite. It tasted delicious! The rich taste of woods and juicy, tender meat rolled into her mouth. When the she-cat had finished eating, she found a large, fat duck and plucked it bald. /Perfect, for the kittens' nests!/ Softpaw purred and carried the feathers to the nursery. "Look! I have feathers for you, kittens!"

Juniperkit jumped up and screeched of happiness so that the whole nursery was awakened. "SOFTPAW!!!" The other kittens pushed her over and she laughed. "Oh StarClan, what am I supposed to do with those two..." Elderflower muttered, also laughing.

She helped the young apprentice to her feet and purred. "Thanks for the feathers, Softpaw!" "No problem!"Softpaw smiled and walked back to the prey pile.

She picked up the goose she had plucked and walked with it to the elders' den. "I have prey with me." "What?! Do you have a cage with you?! What for?" Telma meowed in confusion, deaf as she was. Softpaw laughed and repeated the sentence. She put the starling down in front of the thin, rosy cat. "Eat up." Softpaw nodded at the fresh prey.She didn't wait for an answer and walked back out of the den with a swishing tail, where she met Wolfhart! "Oh..uh hello." Softpaw timidly licked her fur. "Hi. Would you like to go hunting with-" Wolfhart was interrupted by Suntail standing next to Softpaw. "Sorry, Wolfie, but she already wanted to go hunting with ME!" Suntail immediately made Sofpaw feel warm inside. The tom put his tail on Roxy's shoulder and grinned, "Ah, don't look so grumpy Wolfie, accept that you'll never have her..." Suntail took one last look with pure hatred and arrogance at the black tom and walked with Softpaw, fur to fur, out of the tunnel.
