Chapter 11: When You Least Expect It You Won't Know It's Coming

Hiccup

I worked and worked more than I ever have done before. Sweat kept trickling down my face as well as my back but it all didn't to me. Not one bit. The reason being so was because, Ashley and I were building a contraption for Toothless's tail. I was outraged inside when she told me what happened, the first thing that I thought of when she told was that what happened to him was all because of me. If I hadn't done what I had did – escape – then Toothless would still be in one piece, he wouldn't be missing a tail right now. Ashley had known it was affecting me and tried to calm me down about it all, her words had helped and especially when Aryan came to visit as well, he said that even without half of his tail he didn't seem to hold a grudge against me. That's when my mind took a revisit back to when Toothless came to see me when I was with Aryan, so they both had a point.

What also outraged me inside was how cold hearted of a man Viggo actually was. I knew he was devious and indecisive but the fact he went to long great lengths to hurt me was cruel; what had Toothless ever done to him...what had I ever done to him because surely it couldn't be because of his father. So, since I had found out, Ashley and I had being working full time on making sure that Toothless would be able to fly again but with me with him. It took us day after day but once it was finally ready we were both pleased with the result. "I'll put this on Toothless later tonight and I'll send Aryan to get you, but don't say anything or act differently, we don't need Viggo getting suspicious," Ashley whispered to me after she hid away the tail fin and lead me out of the forge. "I won't, thank you Ashley so much for this," I whispered back avoiding gaze with the two men coming into view.

Ashley smiled just as we made it to the men's gaze. "He's done for the day, worked harder than usual so I'd give him something extra today, like maybe a bath to get rid of the sweat," Ashley recommended to Viggo before he could speak one word. "As you wish Ashley," Viggo spoke so fluently before taking hold of my wrist. He dragged me out away from the forge with great force, heading down to the wash area. He thrust me into one of the rooms, his chestnut eyes piercing against me "You have 15 minutes, make it quick, you won't have any longer than that you understand me," and I nodded immediately before he slammed the door and locking it shut. I sauntered over to the tub and started the water; I lifted the red tunic Aryan gave me over my head and dropped it down next to the tub, followed by my bottoms before climbing in the tub.

I let my body soak in the water, it made me feel completely relaxed because for once no one was around to hurry me along or...or just watch. Thinking about the time I had on my hands I ducked my head down in the water to clean my hair before rising and switching off the tap. As I rushed through my time limit I thought about how this could be the last time I would ever have to go through this disaster. I jumped out the tub, dried myself off immediately, before pulling up my bottoms and chucking the tunic over my head just as the door re-opened, revealing Viggo. I didn't wait for him to speak or look my way, but just left the room. He soon went and took the lead heading back up the twisted tower and until reaching my room once more. He pushed me inside without a second thought and left me alone. Something seemed off about him today, he seemed more agitated and he seemed to be alone and barely talking. Maybe something happened between him and his brother. Who do I care anyway?

I wandered over towards the bed and led down knowing that I had a few hours to kill before I could be getting out of here. I wrapped the furs around me ready to close my eyes. It was easier now to drift off into nothingness because of the comfort Aryan had given me; it swept across my mind in that moment of time, maybe that was why Viggo seemed so agitated today and other days because everything was starting to change for me and he could see and sense it. Maybe that would make my plan of escape trickier than I anticipated it would be. I left the world through the darkness as I drifted off into sleep and didn't bother waking when the echo of the latch of the door re-opened followed by its heavy footsteps. I just laid there and waited for the shaking to stop just as the rattle of the plate was set down by the edge of the bed. The echo of his growl vibrated through my ears as I was still asleep; hearing the echo of movement in the background of my room.

All the work I had put in to making Toothless's tail fin and saddle exhausted me so it was no surprise that as soon as I came back in here I was collapsed on the bed. That would probably get Viggo suspicious because I was never like this. It didn't matter because it was all worth it and only in a few hours we both would be out here and as well as that; I would be taking the Dragon Eye with me. That was something else, when I remembered what the object was and how it was being used it left me infuriated. Why could someone be so cruel and inhuman to hurt them in such a way? The dragons I mean and this Dragon Eye just pushes the blame. Thoughts started to cloud my own judgement as well as the time because before I knew it my body was again being shaken upon. I stirred slowly and let my eyes flicker open. "Hiccup...Hiccup wake up..." the sound was more of a whisper to my ear but as my vision began to clear up I could see the bright azure eyes in front of me with the flick of their ebony hair. "Aryan..?" I questioned his name to be sure.

"Yea it's me, come on, Ashley has Toothless ready, we're getting you out of here," he slowly placed his hand through my own and helped me sit up. As I did so I noticed the guards were knocked out by the door of the tower and I couldn't take in the fact that this was actually happening. Aryan raced me out the tower and down the set of stairs until we slowed into the main compound. He looked left and right multiple times before we could move further into the compound and make it to the dragon's pen. Even through the flick of my hair as we raced through I noticed Viggo's office and remember what I had to do; my hand pulled away from Aryan and I started running in the opposite direction to where I needed to be going. "Hiccup! Come back!" he shouted at me through a whisper, but I just carried on running until I made it to the door. I slowly pushed it opened just as it started to creak I pushed my head through the gap and see if anyone was around, lucky for me, there wasn't. I slipped in through the small gap in the door and started my search.

Books were stacked upon book as well as weapons arranged in perfect order. I sauntered on through making sure that I left everything how it was so it would suspect that anything had been touched but I couldn't find it anywhere. "Hiccup what are you looking for? Toothless is this way," Aryan came into the room taking a stand next to me "The Dragon Eye, I can't let him keep it, I have to take it with me," and I carried on searching; I heard Aryan sigh from behind but soon after he helped me search and the place never looked like it did before. It was a wreck. "I've got it, now let's go," Aryan grabbed hold of the object from one of the dark places Viggo kept in the corner. Aryan grabbed hold of my hand tightly and raced me faster than he did before down to the dragon's pen. I tripped over my feet a couple of times – well it was mainly my metal foot. But there in the distance I saw him. His great big diluted green eyes and his gummy smile looking over at me.

Immediately he came running towards me knocking me down to the ground licking my face and whatever else he could. "It's good to see you to bud," I reached up and hugged him tightly. "What took you so long?" Ashley whisper complained to Aryan he showed her the Dragon Eye , "He insisted," she shook her head through despair before pulling Toothless away so I was able to stand. "You remember how it works?" Ashley looked at me before calculating the structure the saddle connected to Toothless and his tail fin; I nodded and climbed on him which he did willingly with no fuss. I connected my metal foot into the contraption and released the tail from behind. "Now get out of here before the alarms are raised," Aryan started but it was too late because the alarm was raised, the ringing sound which no one could forget, and I knew that was time for me to leave. "You guys need to go, I'll be fine from here," they both shared a look "It's okay, I have him," and immediately afterwards Toothless cooed and shared his sweet smile. Ashley and Aryan both nodded and let me go so we all diverted in opposite directions.

Toothless crept through the compound slowly and sliding away out of the men's way whenever he sensed them around and sooner than later we made it out into the crisp wind. "Do it bud," I told him; he raised his wings high in the air and took off without a second glance back. Just as we left I heard the growl of the man I never wished to see again. Inside a felt a pang of relief and happiness because I was never going back there again and neither was Toothless and nor was the Dragon Eye. I looked at the satchels which Ashley placed on Toothless and there inside lay the Dragon Eye. I just had to be sure that it was there and I wasn't played for a fool. I searched through the other satchels and found some food, water and fur blankets to keep me warm; a small smile crept across my face. Toothless soared across the wind and through the stars and the wind crept through each strand of my hair and it felt amazing, I had never felt so much freedom in my life before.

The darkness soon set into daylight and the sun came up shining. I could see the look in Toothless's eyes he was getting tired and I knew that I was too. It was as if Thor had heard my prayer of some sort because then up in the distance became an island come into view. Its snow-peak mountain and the numerous trees which surrounded its base looked like someone's sort of home, but it was definitely a place that I and Toothless could use to take a break. "Toothless go to that island," I pointed in the distance, as soon as he saw the destination he picked up his speed and we travelled rapidly towards it. As we got closer I swear I could see some sort of buildings but before I could get a better look at it a boulder hit Toothless sending us plummeting down to the earth. The wind slapped against my face like ice and suddenly by body hit against the ground beneath and I felt myself lose consciousness, "Toothless..."
