Yal's POV.
A dark male lion ran into the Gevaar (African for danger) camp. "Yal what are you doing here?!" A dark figure yelled. "You know your not supposed to be here! You were exiled along with your family! So go!" The dark figure jumped down from the large boulder he was standing on and walked over to Yal.
"Please Leier (African word for leader) my family all starved to death only me, my mother,my father, and little brother are still alive! Please you must let us return to Gevaar we will die if you don't! We will even work for prey and a place to sleep!" Yal pleaded.
"No, leave and don't ever return!" Leier replied.

Nikki's POV.
A young lioness padded through the outskirts. The vast plain she trodden on seemed to gleam in the lowering sun. She was approaching pride territory. She found a resting place just outside the borders. Just then, she heard many pleading whines, then a roar. "No, leave and don't ever return!" Her round ears perked and she leaned forward to hear the rest, but she couldn't make out anything else. Someone had been banished and was begging for a spot back in the pride. Her heart swelled with sympathy. "I know how that feels..." the lioness murmured. Then, she heard paw steps coming her way. She leapt to her paws and scurried to the nearest boulder to hide. The last thing she needed was to face an angry exiled lion. She poked her head out to see a male, his head hung low in defeat. Her ears pinned back. Who was he?

Yal's POV.
I looked up and saw a lioness looking down at me from a boulder. "Who are you?" I yelled up to her.
"I-I'm Nikki." She answered timidly. "Who are you?" She asked back.
"I'm Yal!" I yelled up. "Why don't you come up here so I can talk to you with out yelling!" I asked.
"Alright." She said as she jumped off the Boulder and walked over to me.
"So are you an outlander?" I asked.
"Y-yes." She timidly answered.
"I'm sorry!" I answered.
"What do you mean? I know it's not wonderful but it's we're family is!"
"Well I mean there's almost no food and very little water!"
"Yes but we're free." She said. calmly. "Here I'll show you!" She said as she turned around and ran towards the mountains.

Nikki's POV.
Nikki ran across the fields, looking back every once in a while to see if Yal was following. She smiled and looked ahead, approaching the mountains. She came to a halt. "Here's what I mean." She went into a tunnel and Yal followed her, looking confused. She emerged on the other side. There was beautiful plateaus, rocky hills, soft grasslands, and pretty vegetation. "This is what it means to be free. Every lone lion gets all of this to themselves, instead of a small enclosed territory." She explained, looking at him.
"It's... beautiful." Yal said breathlessly.
"there is plenty of prey around here and plenty of room for all roaming lions." Nikki said.
"Great!" Yal said, then turned around and ran back.
Nikki ran after him. "Wait! Where are you going?!" She yelled.
Yal kept running, but turned his gaze to her. "To get my family!"
"You're... family?" Nikki ran faster. Yal nodded.
"Well come on! Night is falling." Nikki sped ahead, casting a playful glance at Yal, who glared playfully at her and ran faster to catch up.

Yal's POV.
"Hey wait up, Nikki!" I yelled.
"You speed up! Or are you to high and mighty to run fast!" She joked.
"Alright fine!" I sped up to a full sprint and In a couple of bounds I past her! "Now who's lazy!" I joked. "Alright we're here!" I said happily
"Great!" She said happier. "Where is your family?" She asked.
"Right over there." I said pointing with my tail to a a female lion with a cubs and a big male lion sitting close by. "Mother I'm back!" She looked over at us.
"Yal hello! Who is this?" She asked.
"This is Nikki! From over that hill aways! She just showed me a place where we can be free and have all the food we could ever want!" I said excitedly. My family looked at me in confusion. "The only place like that here is Gevaar." My mother stated.
"And we are not going to go beg any more to Leier!" My father proclaimed.
"We don't need to!" I insisted. "It's right outside of Leier's territory!" I explained excitedly. My parents looked at each other for a minute then turned back to us.
"All right, show us." They said timidly. So I turned around and started walking back to Nikki's home. "You'll love it there!" I said trying to convince my parents. "I know you will!"

Nikki's POV.
Nikki was nervous about Yal's parent's uneasiness. Who was this Leier? Why were they so doubtful? Any lion would love to hear this kind of news. What were they so afraid of? She took the lead, padding just ahead of Yal. She wanted to ask him why his parents weren't as optimistic about this as they should be, but thought it best to keep it to herself.
"You'll love it there!" Yal insisted. "I know you will!"
His attempts to convince them weren't going very well. They were drawing near the border. She swerved right, avoiding the territory of a pride.
"We're almost there!" She reported.
She cast a glance at Yal, grinning widely.
"Prepare to have your mind blown!" She joked, reassured she finally got them to smile atleast a little bit. She ducked into the tunnel, sneezing as dirt entered her nose.
Yal followed after her, brushing up against her for a brief moment.
As they emerged, the two lions had the same look Yal had when he first spotted the beautiful setting before them, breathless and in awe.
She smiled at Yal, who grinned back at her.
"Welcome home." She murmured.

Yal's POV.
I looked over at Nikki. "Thanks!" I said excitedly. "We're do you stay at?"
"There's a cave about a mile from here." She said pointing with her nose towards some distant hills.
"Do you camp with anyone?" I asked.
"Yeah, my mother and brother, Ginger and Diego." She replied.
"Well I'm looking forward to meeting them!" I said beckoning my parents. "I'll find you tomorrow and you can show us the best hunting spots!"
"Alright!" She said walking away. "See you tomorrow!" She said over her shoulder.
I turned back to my parents. "Alright we better go see if we can find a place to sleep!" I said walking towards some trees. "I know this will be the best home we could possibly find!"

Nikki's POV.
She looked back at Yal and his parents as they searched for a place to stay.  She went over to her own little den.  It was small, but cozy and comfortable.
"There you are, Nikki!  What's with the hold up?"  Diego asked.
"I met someone today!  His name is Yal, and he came with his family to live out here.  I hope to see him often."  Nikki said excitedly.
"A boy huh?"  Diego grinned.
"Shut up, Diego.  We're just friends.  Get it? got it? good."
She settled down next to her mother and brother, smiling.  She had finally made a new friend, she hadn't gotten to know many lions around here.  Diego twitched and murmured in his sleep.  He constantly kicked Nikki, making her want to claw his ears off.
When she finally had enough, she got up and went outside the cave, looking over the vast hills and plains.  She tried to find Yal and his family, but couldn't see them, it was too dark.  She sat down and enjoyed the breeze, and watching everything slowly and drowsily settle down.
She began to feel very sleepy herself.

Just so you all know chapter 1 will take place 6 months after the Prolougue!
