Nikita thought about the note that she had left her parents, what it said.
It is for the better, though I will be taking revenge on Brimstone for my parents, and complete the mission they did not finish.
She was now out of sight of Brimstone, riding along a large canyon to Quarterstone, following the map the Librarian had given her. According to the map the canton she was riding beside was called Skull Canyon. She guessed that it was named that after the unusual bone-white rock that the canyon walls were made out of. Nikita wondered what it was, as she had never seen the stone before.
In fact, Nikita had never really seen anything outside of Brimstone. She had never gotten the chance to. Her parents were always saying "You can't go farther beyond the forest, it's to dangerous."
Nikita had obeyed, looking wistfully out at the towering mountains to the east of Brimstone. She was traveling north, out away from the city.
If they try to look for me they won't find me. She thought.
I'm to far out now.
As she looked around she saw many caves in the hillsides around her, and forests of spruce, oak and birch trees covering some of the hills and the ground.
Her horse shied when they passed one of the caves in one of the hillsides.
"It's alright." Said Nikita softly.
Blaze calmed when she talked to him, and they continued on their way. She had decided to name him Blaze because of the white marking on his forehead that looked like a flame.
Nikita glanced down at the map that she had spread out on Blaze's saddle.
"Only a few more hours, and we'll be there. You can rest there."
Nikita then reached into her chest and drew out an apple, which Blaze happily ate. She herself also had a quick meal. She hadn't eaten since dinner, and that had been hours ago.
"I wonder what Quarterstone is like." Thought Nikita.
"Small, compact. It's at the top of the mountain, and it's cold." A Servant said.
She looked behind her and saw one standing beneath an oak tree.
"Some of the citizens there are... unfriendly." It said.
"You say that like you were there." Nikita said.
"I was, a very long time ago." It answered.
"I was delivering a message to a Servant much like yourself."
Then it was gone, and Nikita was left to ponder its words alone.
A Servant much like yourself...
What had that meant? Her parents perhaps? Or someone else entirely?
It also said that so e if the citizens were... unfriendly, she thought to herself, so I'll have to be careful.
She looked up at the sky. The sun was halfway up it.
I still have the rest of the day... and possibly into the night. At least I had a bed in my chest just in case, so I can sleep in a bed and not on the ground or in the saddle.
Around midday it started to rain, the sky growing dark as the clouds moved in. Luckily she was in a forest, so the rain didn't bother her to much. She didn't run into any mobs either, which she found surprising. She had her sword out for that very reason, and was prepared for anything.
Two hours mater they reached a mountain pass. Nikita glanced down at the map. It said to climb the mountain on the left. She then looked at the mountain and assessed it. She could see a worn trail leading up the mountain. It was steep and the terrain looked rough. Nikita would have to get off and lead Blaze through the trail.
It hasn't been used in a long time. She thought.
Does no one come down to hunt or fish? She though as she looked out across the lake down in the valley.
"Come, on boy." She said, urging Blaze into a trot.
"We're almost there."
When she got to the base of the mountain she dismounted and got an apple from the chest and fed it to Blaze. Then she herself ate a little before climbing. She was right about the steep and rough terrain.
It was obvious that it hadn't been used in months, maybe even years. Nikita stumbled through patches if thick shrubs and bushes, and walked over very uneven ground. About halfway up she looked at the sky.
It was almost dark.
Nikita looked around for a suitable place to build a base when she spotted a patch of stone in the mountain's side. She tied Blaze to a tree and got her pickaxe out of her inventory. Nikita then mined a hole big enough for her and Blaze to fit through. Finally she widened it and put torches around the small room and her bed in the corner. Nikita led Blaze inside and sealed the small base with cobblestone.
Nikita, tired and sore as she was, went to bed, falling into a deep sleep.
Something woke her up the next morning, something akin to an uneasy feeling.
She got up, put her bed in the chest, collected the torches and went outside, her sword drawn.
Something was out here with her... but she wasn't sure what it was. Nikita led Blaze up the mountain, her sword still drawn.
Where are you... she thought.
I know you're out here...
Whatever it was was hiding from her, not wanting to be seen.
When they finally reached the top of the mountain she tied Blaze tightly to a tree and went to look around.
Which, she thought as she looked around her, is most likely what the... thing wants me to do.
Nikita wasn't certain that there was something out here with her. She knew that she was being watched by something.
She was right. When she was busy investigating a group of trees she heard something coming up behind her, and she whirled around, her sword drawn.
It was a fellow human being, dressed in iron armor, with a shield and iron sword.
"I don't want to fight!" She said, her eyes frightened.
"Then why did you follow me?" Asked Nikita, her voice a growl.
"And why were you hiding from me and sneaking up behind me?" She asked.
"I... I just wanted to see what you were like before you entered Quarterstone. I'm one of the guards, but I'm assigned to guard the trail and any travelers who come up that way. If I deem them untrustworthy, I am to wound or kill them. Most travelers, however don't have enchanted diamond weapons and armor and horse with enchanted diamond armor." She said, looking Nikita right in the eyes.
"But I think that you're trustworthy."
"Follow me. I know a faster way to Quarterstone." She said.
"Let me get my horse and then we can go." Nikita said.
"I'll wait for you." Said the guard.
So... a faster way into Quarterstone, and a guid who trusts me. This makes my job of finding Herobrine's associates much easier. Nikita thought as she untied and mounted Blaze.
Together Nikita and the lone guard made their way to Quarterstone, arriving a little after midday.
