"If anyone could have saved me it would have been you"

Her voice sounded in his mind, in his ears. Every time he closed his eyes he saw her beautiful face. Her dark hair framing her face, her light blue eyes smiling at him. But when he opened his eyes once again, the aching pain in his chest returned. Her last words to him were hurting him so much. He could have saved her, but he was too late.
When he found her, her body torn apart by the weird devices of her own world. She lay on the beach, blood dripping down her chin. Her hair framing her face and wounds. She was mumbling words, he could not understand what she was saying.
"My love," he choked on his own tears, that were now falling on her earthly clothes. He took her cold hands, although the sun was warming the sand around them. "Susan," Caspian cried out. He felt that she squeezed his hand, not that powerful anymore.
"Caspian," she breathed, she then bowed forward to cough and blood dripped more out of her mouth. Caspian wiped some of it away but it didn't help.
"I love you," she managed to say. A hint of a smile appeared on her bloodied lips. Caspian bowed forward as he gathered her in his arms. He kissed the top of her head. She was sweating cold sweat.
"Susan," the only thing he could manage to say was her name.
"If anyone could have saved me it would have been you," she said as she gasped for breath and her hand which was still squeezing his became limp.
And the king of Narnia cried out her name that even the sea became quiet.
He held her close and kissed her on the eyelids, on her forehead.
As he once had worshipped her body he kissed her.
Because if someone could have saved her, it would be him.
