Padding quietly down the sidewalk as cars of all kinds drove past him, Max had his tail drooping as he headed home for the night. He had been depressed ever since Gidget broke up with him. He had tried to tell her the truth but she refused to listen and turned her back on him. Now here he was, all by himself after everyone else cast him out.

Well, almost all by himself.

"Mel, I just want to say thank you for helping me out tonight," Max spoke for the first time to his companion ever since they had set out on their little excursion. The terrier had gone to drop off some party supplies to Peanut so he could get his apartment ready for his cousin's birthday tomorrow. Chloe had given Max the task, just like everyone else was these days. And the way they all did it was giving him a piece of paper with instructions on it or have Duke, Snowball or Norman tell him. Most refused to talk to him yet. Chloe and Buddy wouldn't even look at him. Then there was the fact that Gidget never even came to his apartment anymore. A tear rolled down Max's face.

Rounding a corner with Mel trotting by his side, Max almost didn't hear voices coming from a nearby alleyway. Stopping in his tracks, he recognized Dolly's voice. Growling, he snarled, "She's gonna pay for what she's done." Before Mel could stop him, the terrier went over to the alleyway and peered around the corner. Seeing the Doberman Dolly was talking to, he forgot all about attacking. Instead, he and Mel watched silently.

"How hard was it to grab someone and bring them to me Luther?!" Dolly growled, her fur bristling. His body marked with scars, the Doberman known as Luther replied, "I already told you, she had help." With that, he pointed at his left eye, where there were three long scars running down his face.

"Does it look like I care about a stupid pigeon?!" Dolly barked. Leaning towards Max, Mel whispered, "They must mean Tiberius." The terrier motioned to the pug to keep quiet. Looking back, he realized that they had missed whatever Luther had told Dolly. A smile grew across the female terrier's face as she murmured, "I think we have our new plan of action. Well done baby." The two shared a small kiss. Mel tried hard not to gag.

Max listened quietly as Luther asked, "So... you're not actually pregnant, right?" Ears perked up, Max glared at Dolly as she responded, "Of course not! Who'd want to have puppies with that coward?! I'd want to have yours if anything." Snickering to herself, she sneered quietly, "I still can't believe that stupid fuzzball fell for such a stupid lie."

Gasping, Max quickly covered his mouth while Mel slapped his paw over it. Seeing how Dolly and Luther stopped talking, they raced away. Turning to Max as they ran, Mel cried, "We need to tell the others!"
