A/N Hey everyone. Sorry for the late update, but I hope this chapter will make up for it. It was mainly a free write, since I did no work on the story in Chicago, only on the plane ride back. But, hopefully this still works. Enjoy!

Lizzie’s POV

“So, do you guys have plans tomorrow, or are you free? The girls and I have something awesome to show you,” I told the boys before they left to go to their hotel that night. If they were free, specifically around noon, the girls and I had a plan. It was going to be amazing if it worked out.

“Um, I think we have a radio interview, and I’m not sure about afterwards,” Liam said after thinking it through for a little bit.

“Ah, okay,” I said, nodding, sounding a bit too casual than I would have been on other terms.

“Why? What’s going on tomorrow that you and the girls want to show us?” Louis asked in response.

“Oh, nothing,” I answered, thinking about what was going to happen tomorrow. “Just call us if you find out you can make it, okay?”

“Okay, sure. But what’s going on?” Niall asked in response.

“Never mind,” I smiled. “See you later,” I said as they got into Paul’s van; who had pulled up at Courtney’s house. The boys all waved as the van pulled away. I waved back, and the girls probably did too, but they were behind me, so I didn’t know if they did or not.

When they were gone, I waved goodbye to the girls before heading home and heading to bed. As I fell asleep, I thought of tomorrow, and how awesome it was going to be.

As I woke up the next morning, I smiled to myself. Although July 4th was always fun in our neighborhood, the best day of the summer, in my opinion, was the annual Elm Street Champion Soccer Game, which was held in my backyard. It was always so much fun!

Every year, Kyle and I were team captains, and the rest of the group would divide out evenly into the teams. Until this year, we had my brother to be a part of the teams. But, now that he was in the Air Force, he wasn’t here. So, now we would have an odd number unless the boys showed up.

Thanks to that, I knew that someone was probably going to sit out. I already had an idea of who that was going to be.

I quickly changed into my old soccer t-shirt and shorts before heading downstairs. “Morning, Mom,” I greeted as I poured myself a glass of orange juice. “Are you ready for the big game? We always love spectators,” I added.

“Yes, of course. Also, I was able to set up a Skype with Michael. He’s going to be watching too,” Mom informed me grinning.

I felt a smile form on my lips as I heard this. “Michael’s going to be watching?” I asked softly.

“Yes, unless he’s called to do something. Your game fit perfectly into some down time he had. Isn’t that great?” Mom asked in response.

I nodded. “It’s perfect. I can’t wait to tell everyone!” I said.

Mom smiled. “Now, my star player, let’s get you some breakfast,” she said, and we both laughed. This would be a fun day…

----------

“Are you ready to lose?” I asked Kyle as I tied my long hair back into a ponytail. We were meeting up just before we chose our teams, like we always did.

“Oh, you’re going down, Nelson. This year’s my last, so I’m going out with a win,” Kyle said with a grin, sounding a bit overly confident. There was a determined flame in his eyes, which I recognized from previous years of the championship.

“Yeah, right Anderson. I’m champ at this game, and you know it. I’m going to bring you to your knees, just like every year,” I retorted confidently.

“Oh, whatever,” Kyle rolled his eyes. “Let’s save this trash talking for the game, agreed?” he suggested, sticking his large hand out for me to shake.

“Agreed,” I said, shaking his hand. I grinned, and added, “Oh, just so you know, Michael’s going to be watching the game.” I turned and started walking away, holding in a laugh.

“Huh?” I heard Kyle ask, but I ignored it as I walked into Courtney’s backyard, where the girls were waiting. They were all dressed in their old soccer uniforms or other athletic outfits. They were all sitting on the swings or hanging off the rings on Courtney’s old swing set, chatting and smiling.

As I approached them, I overheard the end of their conversation. “So, is it official, then?” Simone asked, excitement in her voice as she sat on the grass next to the swing set.

“Yeah, we talked about it after the fireworks ended. We’re going to give the relationship a shot and see where it goes. Bu, either way, we’re keeping it a secret from the paparazzi, although I do love having my picture taken,” Courtney answered, hopping off the rings and striking a few supermodel poses. The girls and I erupted in laughter as I took a seat next to Simone on the grass.

“Hey,” I greeted, smiling as we all stopped laughing.

“Hey Lizzie,” Kelly said with a smile in return. “Are you ready for the game, captain?”

“Yup; Kyle and I had our annual trash talking, all in good fun. Teams aren’t set up yet, since I’m waiting on the boys. Also, Michael’s going to be watching,” I informed them.

“Are you serious?” Ana asked, smiling. “That’s great that your brother’s going to be watching. How did he get time off?”

"He just kind of did. I don't know, I didn't ask. But you can ask if you want," I answered.

"Nah, I'm good," Ana answered quickly.

"Suit yourself. Do you know if the boys are coming or no?" I asked, taking charge of the group.

"No, I’m sorry. The boys didn't send a text yet," Lucy said, checking her phone. But, just as she said that, I heard Louis call out, "Hello?"

"We're back here, Lou!" Courtney called, much more excited and happy than she's been in a while. It was kind of a relief.

The boys came down the hill, smiling at us. "Hey, girls," Zayn said as they reached us.

"Hey, are you ready to play soccer?" Kelly asked, smiling.

Harry looked at us. "Was this the surprise?" He asked.

"Yeah, are you going to play?" Simone asked with a grin.

"Uh, we weren't ready to, but I guess we can..." Liam said, looking at the rest of the boys, who nodded, agreeing.

“Perfect! So then, you five will be on the same team as Kyle, and the girls and I will be on the other team!” I exclaimed, happy to find a working team list. “Kyle’s your team captain, and I’m the girls’ team captain.”

“Okay then. Let’s play,” Kelly said, getting up and running over to the field in my backyard. We all laughed at her enthusiasm, and ran after her, smiling.

----------

“Pass it!” Simone yelled at Ana, who was dribbling the ball towards the goal. Ana quickly obliged, and Simone got it, continuing to dribble towards Harry, who had taken the position of goalie on the boys’ team.

“Take a shot, Si!” Courtney cheered, stopping Liam from going to get the ball from Simone.

While she did that, I did the same with Louis. I stole a quick glance at my mom, and I saw the laptop in her hands, facing us. There was Michael’s smiling face, watching us play. I smiled at him, and then turned back to Louis, but in that little time he had gotten past me. “Louis William Tomlinson!” I yelled, running after him.

“You weren’t looking, Liz!” Louis laughed, and I ran after him, finally catching up. I grabbed his arm and pulled him back. “Hey! Can I call that illegal contact?”

“Oh quit it,” I said, sticking my tongue out at him with a wink. He laughed a bit, and winked back. That distracted him long enough for Simone to take a shot. It went straight through Harry’s legs into the goal. “Great shot, Simone!”

“Hazza, you let her score!” Louis jokingly complained, and the girls and I laughed.

“Sorry, Lou,” Harry apologized, throwing his hands up in defeat.

“Oh, come on you two. What’s the score, Dad?” Ana asked her dad, who was sitting in a lawn chair next to my mom and brother.

“Um, 8 to 2, and you’re in the lead,” he answered, reading the paper. The girls and I cheered.

Courtney and I shared a look, and we began to sing We Are the Champions.

“We are the champions, my friends,

And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end.

We are the champions.

We are the champions.

No time for losers,

'Cause we are the champions of the world.”

Liam smiled. “Hey, there’s still time left in the game. The lads and I still could win this,” he pointed out.

“Yeah, I’m not losing this game! I’m going to win it and take that little trophy to college with me!” Kyle laughed, but the girls and I all knew that he was being serious. He would take the trophy, if we let him.

“Sorry, but that trophy is staying here with me,” I said, crossing my arms. “Let’s just play. We’re going to 10 points.”

“Okay, Harry, throw it in,” Niall said. Harry did so, and the game started up again.

----------

“Now can I sing We Are the Champions, since we are?” I asked with a smile.

Zayn sighed. “Yes, Lizzie, now you can.”

“Score!” I exclaimed, and started singing.

“We are the champions, my friends,

And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end.

We are the champions.

We are the champions.

No time for losers,

'Cause we are the champions of the world.”

I burst out laughing when I was done. “And we keep the trophy too,” I added, smiling.

Kyle shot me a glare, but I knew it was just in good fun. “Grr…” he growled.

“Oh just stop,” I said with an eye roll. “We won fair and square.”

“Yeah, good job girls,” Liam said politely.

“Thanks,” Courtney said with a smile at Liam, standing next to him.

“No problem,” Liam said, taking Courtney’s hand with a smile.

“Well, I think I’m going to chat with my brother for a little bit. Be right back,” I said, walking over to my Mom and the laptop. When I was there, I said, “Hi Mom, Hi Michael!”

“Hey, Lizzie!” Michael said with a grin. I picked up the computer from Mom’s lap and sat down near the door to the house. “Good job in the game, by the way.”

“Thanks, Michael,” I said with a smile.

“By the way, I saw you and Louis during the game. Remember my advice, okay? Celebrities always leave,” he lectured.

“Yeah, because they have a job to do, of course they would leave. But that doesn’t mean he is going to leave forever. He may come back-,” I tried to explain.

“The acting word in that sentence is may. He’s going to leave, Lizzie, and forget about you,” Michael said.

I glared at him, and got up, giving Mom the laptop. When Mom looked at me with a confused expression, I mouthed, out of the camera’s view, “I don’t want to talk with him anymore.”

Mom shrugged, and I just turned and walked away. He just didn’t understand. He just didn’t understand that I was developing a crush on Louis Tomlinson. What else was I supposed to say? How am I supposed to explain this?

I guess I just need to figure this out on my own. Once I do, I will be the champion, just like the song says. Good luck, Lizzie.
