You really didn't want to be there. Your friend had forced you into this ridiculous get-up and dragged you out of the house that morning. Your friend took part in Colonial reenactments and after months and months of begging, she finally managed to get you to one. You had no desire to be in a place where you had to act like the proper young lady. The only thing you wanted to do on your day off was sit around sans pants and watching Netflix.

You shook your head as your friend walked away, leaving you standing in the middle of a field wearing a dress that had to have weighed at least thirty pounds. Okay, you were exaggerating, but it felt that way. You let out a sigh and went to explore. You didn't get far before you accidentally walked into something solid. Or rather someone. "I'm so sorry!" you cried, blushing when you realized you were eye level with the person's chest.

You felt your eyes scan up the tall, lanky build of the man in front of you. Finally, you met the deep, inquisitive blue eyes of the stranger. "The fault is mine, Miss..." You stared at him for a moment before you realized he was waiting for your name. "Oh, I'm Y/N." You offered your hand, but instead of shaking it, the man pulled your hand up to meet his lips. Great, another fanatic.

"The pleasure is mine, Miss Y/N. If I may ask, why do you look so distressed?" His British accent was pleasing to your ears, but at least you were able to pay attention this time. "That obvious? This really isn't my kind of thing, to be honest. My friend dragged me from house this morning, against my will." You couldn't believe that you were spilling your guts to a total stranger. You really hoped you didn't offend him. To your surprise and relief, he began chuckling softly.

"Perhaps I can assist in making this a more enjoyable experience for you then," he offered. The joy in his eyes was nearly contagious. "Sure...as long as I don't have to talk like that. I don't think I could manage," you said, mentally face-palming as soon as the words were out of your mouth. "I understand. I find the wordage of this time confusing as well." He offered his arm but, before you took it you asked him his name. "Of course. Forgive me. My name is Ichabod Crane." You took his arm and let him lead you around the field.

You spent the rest of the day with Ichabod, laughing and really enjoying yourself as you watched the reenactment. Ichabod explained certain things to you and corrected a lot of the things the actors had gotten wrong. "You really know a lot about this stuff. Do you study history or something?" He laughed as if he you'd just told a joke. "I was a professor at Oxford." You joined him in laughter. "Of course you were, Ichabod." He gave you a smile just as the Historical Society announced that it was almost time to close down the reenactment.

"Oh," you said sadly and Ichabod gave you another smile. "Perhaps not as boring as you imagined it would be?" he joked. You giggled again. "I guess not." He took your hand in his again and pressed another kiss to it. "I actually had a really great time. Thank you, Ichabod." He let go of your hand and bowed deeply. You'd honestly never met such a gentleman, but you weren't certain if he was so gentlemanly because he was in character or if he really was that way. There was only one way to find out.

Before you could open your mouth, Ichabod spoke, saying, "Perhaps you would do me the honor of accompanying me for a leisurely stroll one afternoon? I know it is sudden and I do not wish to upset you in anyway." You giggle again and replied, "I'd like that. Let me give you my number." After you exchanged numbers you quickly found your friend.

"You look happy. Guess it was better than you thought, huh?" she asked as she watched Ichabod's retreating figure. You felt yourself blush and you said,"Shut up." You turned away from her and smiled as you walked to her car. Perhaps these little Colonial things weren't so bad after all. \ .
