Princess Sofia loved her magical amulet very much. Her best friend, Prince Hugo, and her family knew that it was magical, but they didn't always.

Sofia remembered when she told her stepsister, Amber, about her amulet for the first time. Amber was so jealous of Sofia for having a magical amulet that when the sisters slept over at Hugo's palace, Amber betrayed Sofia by stealing the Amulet. As punishment for stealing from and betraying her sister, the Amulet cursed Amber by summoning Prince Arthur, an evil prince from a sepia kingdom. Hugo's family learned about the Amulet when they learned that they were in grave danger. But Arthur erased their memories with his magic dragonflies—including Amber. But Amber let it happen to herself to save Sofia, and it broke the curse. Thanks to the dragonflies, nobody remembered Arthur, let alone the secret of Sofia's amulet. Sofia and Hugo were the only ones who remembered because Arthur never erased their memories. After that, Sofia trusted Hugo with her secret, and he remained true to his word.

Long after that, Sofia learned that Princess Elena of Avalor had been trapped inside the Amulet for 41 years while an evil sorceress named Shuriki was ruling her kingdom. Sofia managed to convince her family to travel to Avalor, so she could free Elena from her amulet. The Amulet used to be ruby red, but when it pulled Elena inside, the jewel turned amethyst purple. When Sofia freed Elena from the Amulet, the jewel turned ruby pink. Sofia's family didn't learn about the Amulet—let alone the mission—until Elena was free. Since then, the family has known about Sofia's secret, along with Hugo.

Hugo's family learned about the Amulet after seeing Sofia get trapped inside it. Sofia's imprisonment led to her and Hugo's families learning about her role as storykeeper of the Secret Library.

Princess Hildegard was responsible for Sofia's imprisonment. She never really learned the truth behind the Amulet—and that was good. Sofia knew that Hildegard was more spoiled than Amber, and whenever she saw something she liked, she wanted it. Sofia knew that if Amber could cause trouble by being jealous of her, there was a chance, Hildegard could cause even more trouble out of jealousy. Sofia didn't know what kind of trouble Hildegard could cause, but she never wanted to find out.

Sofia and Hugo had just finished another story in the Secret Library, and they went back to her bedroom, where Amber was waiting to see how they were.

"Amber, what brings you here?" Sofia asked.

"Just wanted to see how you were doing," Amber said.

"We're okay," Hugo said. "We just finished another story in the Secret Library."

Amber was having a playdate with Princess Hildegard today. Amber asked Hildegard to wait in her room while she checked on Sofia. But Unbeknownst to Hugo and the sisters, Hildegard was standing right behind Sofia's bedroom door. She was really curious about what the trio was talking about.

"I have to say, Amber, you've come a very long way," Sofia smiled. "You're more trustworthy with these secrets than you used to be."

"Thanks, Sofia," Amber smiled.

"Speaking of which, Sofia, you should count your blessings," Hugo declared. "Amber may have been able to cause trouble shortly after she learned these secrets, but she's not even the biggest spoiled brat we know."

"Who is?" Sofia asked.

"Princess Hildegard," Hugo replied.

Hildegard was shocked to hear that. She wondered why Hugo saw her as a spoiled brat—but she was even more curious about what secrets Sofia was keeping.

"Don't remind us," Amber snorted. "I remember that last Dads and Daughters field trip when she got field trip when she got almost all of us chased into a tree by a herd of angry Pelicants."

"Hugo is right—I should be thankful," Sofia declared. "If Amber can bring harm just by wanting something, I would hate to see what trouble Hildegard would cause if she ever found out about my amulet."

Those words hurt Hildegard very much. She didn't know why Sofia would think she'd cause any trouble if she ever knew about her amulet. She wanted to know what was going on.

"Well, I'd better get back to what I was doing before Hildegard wonders what's going on," Amber said.

Suddenly, Hildegard threw the door open, shouting, "It's too late for that!"

"Hildy!" Amber gasped.

"Hildegard?" Sofia and Hugo gasped.

"What are you doing?" Sofia asked. "How long have you been standing there?"

"Long enough to hear everything," Hildegard revealed. "What was that about your amulet, Sofia?"

"I can't say," Sofia shrugged.

"You said you'd hate to see what would happen if I ever knew about it," Hildegard told her.

"Why do you want to know so badly, Hildegard?" Hugo asked.

"Because I'm friends with Amber, and she is Sofia's sister," Hildegard claimed. "Sofia can't lie to me."

"Just because you're friends with my sister, it doesn't mean I have to share my secrets with you," Sofia frowned.

"But I thought we were friends," Hildegard said.

"So did I, but you told me that King Roland isn't my real father, then to forget you ever said that—and you expect me to be okay with it," Sofia glared.

"Please, Sofia, tell me about your amulet," Hildegard begged.

Sofia didn't want to tell Hildegard about her amulet because there was a chance Hildegard would cause trouble, but Hildegard was a bad listener. Knowing Hildegard wouldn't listen, Sofia said, "Okay, but you have to promise not to tell anyone—I mean it."

"I promise," Hildegard said.

"My amulet is magical," Sofia revealed.

"Magical?" Hildegard asked. "How?"

"It can put different powers on me for every good or bad deed I do," Sofia revealed. "Also, the Amulet used to be ruby red. But then Princess Elena of Avalor got trapped inside, and it turned amethyst purple."

"There was a princess inside that jewel?" Hildegard asked. "How did she get in there?"

"The same way Sofia got inside—Princess Elena was almost murdered by the evil Queen Shuriki," Hugo revealed.

"And when Sofia freed her, that's when our family learned about the Amulet," Amber chimed in.

"Interesting," Hildegard grinned. "Now what was that she said about you causing trouble after learning about it?"

Sofia and Amber told Hildegard about the times Amber learned about Sofia's secret and the trouble Amber had caused.

"Only our families know about the Amulet," Sofia said.

"Well, your secret is safe with me, too," Hildegard grinned.

"Thanks, Hildy," Sofia smiled. She was happy to know that Hildegard could be trusted until...

"So can I have a turn?" Hildegard asked.

"What?" Sofia asked.

"Wearing the Amulet," Hildegard smiled.

"I'm sorry, Hildegard," Sofia said. "I can't take it off."

"I just want one little turn with it," Hildegard scoffed. "I'll give it back."

"But it's not meant for sharing," Sofia said.

"You let Prince Hugo wear it once before," Hildegard protested.

"That's because she was trapped inside the Amulet, and she trusted me to get her out," Hugo pointed out.

"Nobody has to know that Sofia ever took it off," Hildegard protested.

"But we'd know," Sofia told her.

Amber and Hugo agreed with Sofia, and this didn't make Hildegard happy ever. "Sofia, you're not being a very good sharer!" Hildegard pouted. She stormed out of the room, ready to go back to her castle.

"I was afraid this would happen," Sofia frowned.

"I'm sorry, Sofia—we'd better prepare ourselves for what Hildegard could do," Hugo declared.

It was true—now that Hildegard knew about Sofia's amulet and is unhappy with her, there was a chance Hildegard could bring harm. There was no knowing what could happen.
