By the end of the week, Sofia, Hugo, Earl, Doug, and Martin were ready to try out for the flying derby team.

Sofia's and Hugo's families were up on the balcony, ready to see the little ones try out for the team. Even Princesses Elena and Isabel of Avalor came just to see their friends participate.

"This is so exciting—Sofia and Hugo's first flying derby tryout race at the Corinthian Sports School," James beamed. "I've been looking forward to this all week."

"I've been excited for this, too," Axel smiled. "I can tell my baby bro is growing up—faster than a garden weed."

"I know I put curses on people for every bad deed performed when I was in Sofia's amulet, but I didn't know there was a simple magic spell that could be used to punish folks with a dose of their own medicine," Elena said.

"Me neither—I only knew the Coza Kex could do such a thing," Isabel said.

Sofia, Hugo, Doug, Martin, and Earl were already at the starting line with their horses.

Mr. Ellis was by the starting line. "Greetings, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Corinthian Sports School flying derby tryout race. As you know, the first two riders to cross the finish line earn their places on the flying derby team. Now without further ado, riders, on your wings, get set, go!"

With a wave of Mr. Ellis's wand, the gates opened, and the riders flew out on their horses. Sofia and Hugo had already taken the lead, and this race course was a little more difficult than the one at Royal Prep.

The course started off a little easy with the riders flying through hedges—then the riders had to fly under a bridge without getting sprayed with water. They flew over a mud pit, and it wasn't easy getting past those mud balls. They all flew rings of roses, and they flew through the top of the steeple. Now all Sofia and Hugo had to do was cross the finish line—and they did so.

"Princess Sofia and Prince Hugo have won the tryout race and made the team!" Sir Gerald announced.

Sofia and Hugo landed their horses—and they were all a little wet and dirty.

"That was awesome," Hugo whooped.

"That was fun," Minimus cried. "I can't wait until we get into the flying derby championships!"

Usually, Minimus didn't like participating in events because he didn't have very much confidence, so seeing her horse like this barely surprised Sofia.

"Are you feeling okay?" Sofia joked.

"Congratulations," Sir Gerald smiled. "I present you your own team jerseys!" He handed Sofia and Hugo each a jersey.

Sofia's and Hugo's families came over to congratulate them.

"Great job, Sofia," James beamed. He and Amber hugged their younger sister tightly.

"Congratulations, Sofia," Miranda smiled.

"That's my baby bro," Axel whooped, hugging his little brother tightly.

"I feel like I'm still at Royal Prep, doing this," Hugo smiled.

Doug, Earl, and Martin came up.

"Great job, kids," Earl smiled. "You totally earned this."

"I hope those Senior Knights think twice before they underestimate you, especially Sofia," Doug said.

"The Senior Knights?" Sofia gaped.

"That's right—the Senior Knights Academy is another school where future knights are trained, and once you reach the championship race, you'll be racing against them," Martin said.

"And if they ever say Sofia is too little to participate, they have no choice but to ask Dr. Cedric for a dose of their own medicine," Doug said.

Everyone started laughing.

Sofia and Hugo had fun earning their spots on the flying derby team, and Doug, Earl, and Martin sure learned a big lesson: it's not a good idea to exclude someone just because they're small, and it's hard knowing how they feel unless they themselves go through it.
