CHAPTER 1

***

14 years ago, I was imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread. Neither did I murder anyone, nor did I rob a bank. I only stole a loaf that worth just #50. I was only 16 then.

By now, I know you all will be thinking about who I am.

My name is Babatunde Mayowa. Born and brought up in Ikorodu, Lagos state. I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I mean my parents were wealthy and prominent.

When I was six, my dad, Matthew Olalekan Mayowa, told me to always be contented and focus on my future. Then, he was aspiring for the post of governor of the state. A truthful and honest man he was. Unfortunately, he was stabbed by his political rivals during a rally. He died without a drop of honour while my mother, Folashade Mayowa, was heavily pregnant. My memory doesn't fail me in remembering the incident, like it happened yesterday.

My mum reported her husband's untimely death. "Opposition Party, PAP (People's Alliance Party) Behind Honourable Mayowa's death," a media house reported.

A month later, we were robbed by a gang of robbers. That was the worst night ever. My mum who was raped by the robbers passed away. Yes! She was raped by the whole gang. Twelve able-bodied men.
