Chapter 2

Bleeding, screaming, crying in deep endless pain. But no, they continued, since she was still alive.

I watched mother lying helplessly on the floor and later bleeding to death. That was when the bloody fools stopped. When she died. All because of what? Money and greed.

Humans are terrible beings. May be not all but most, excluding myself of course. The roar of their laughter since then still echos in my head. Like the sound of a familiar thunder clap.

The robbers kidnapped me that same night, throwing me in a sack like a Christmas chicken. All the CCTVs hung at the edge of every corner were destroyed. There was no one to save or protect me, except God.

The robbers threw me in their car trunk, demanding a ransom of N5 million from members of my extended family. Unfortunately, none of them showed up. This was when I knew who my families truly were. When I knew I no longer have a family to rely on. The only family I had were my parents but of blessed memory. They left me in the hands of those terrible monsters that called themselves humans.

I could vividly remember how members of my extended family would beg my parents for opportunities in life. Of course, weren't they families? My dad gave his siblings everything without second thought. So did my mum. But where are they now? Sharing all of my inheritance, claiming I was also killed along with my mum but my body wasn't found. Poor barrister, what could he do?

Staying with the robbers was the worst moment of my life. When no one came for me, they decided to keep me as their own as I was still useful to them. In my smallish mind, all I thought of was how to escape their den and torture. How to come out of it all.

How can I live and smile at the faces of those who murdered my parents? First, if I leave here, who would I run to? Who would believe me? And I hope I wouldn't cause more trouble if they come after me.
