2 Years Later...

We worked so hard day and night. In the market place, on people's farm, in people's houses. Wash cars and doing laundry just to fill our empty stomachs. That wasn't easy for me at first but it took me no time to blend in... With my new family.

Doing these was easy, all of these was easy except for one thing...

Where.

To.

Sleep.

It was as different and challenging as proving yourself innocent in court when all hands and evidence proves you guilty. I remember this quote dad usually tells me.

"The smaller the lizard, the greater the hope of becoming a crocodile."

Well, yes, living on the street was very, very difficult. When night falls, we slept under bridges sometimes, under lorries and trucks parked in the markets other times, in uncompleted buildings.

One faithful night in the market, we were sleeping under the bridge when I heard some people discussing on how to break down the doors and steal some goods. I silently woke the others up to inform them but... They noticed our movements and the gang of theives beat us thoroughly until we ran away, with out hungry mouths and broken ribs.

Finally, we got a quiet place to stay. Just then,

Our scared eyes met an off-coloured, blue mini bus parked in front of us . They were about six or seven men kidnapping children from the streets. They plastered their mouths so the boys couldn't speak.

I gasped to the fearful sight before me and they pointed their touch lights at us. They chased after us like Street-rats as we ran to safe our precious lives.

Soon, we saw an uncompleted building and hide our tired bodies in it. The crazy kidnappers searched for a while, each one cursing and lying insults upon us before they finally turned their backs and left. We slept in peace, there in the dark. We slept in fear, enduring the pain and hunger.

It is a lazy man who says "it is only because he have no time that his farm is overgrown with weeds." that night, I blamed myself for joining Daniel, Samuel, and Oyin. Not because of what I faced but for the fact that I almost lead to their deaths... Well, other nights weren't so different from this.
