At her hearing test I sat with her in the booth and tried to get her to follow the instructions. I pointed to the earphones and asked if she heard anything and she said yes but she hadn't indicated and the poor technician on the other side of the glass was cranking knobs and dials and looking totally bewildered. I told her she had to hold up her hand the minute she heard a sound. Nothing. I could hear the sound through her headphones and the techie was banging his head on the table.

He came in, red faced and really flustered, exclaiming the test was a failure. It was impossible! He left... as did we.
