Blaze POV

We stood in shock of our teacher going to lead us on this mission.

Weiss: Professor Oobleck?

Oobleck: Yes I'm afraid those bags won't be necessary. Seeing as you've opted to shadow a huntsman on what is now essentially a reconnaissance mission. I can assure you we will not be establishing a single base of operations. Rather we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wasteland, and making camp in any inhabitable locations we may stumble upon. I've packed all our essentials myself, provided the air course and readied the airship. And! It's Dr. Oobleck. I didn't earn a PhD for fun thank you very much. Come on now children, according to my schedule we are already 3 minutes behind, schedule.

He ran into the airship leaving all of us in confusion.

Sonic: Was anyone able to follow that?

Ruby: Well alright then looks like we're going to save the world with Dr. Oo-bleck okay yeah when you say it out loud it sounds worse.

???: Save the world??

We turned around to see team JNPR behind us.

Nora: Your going on world-saving missions without us?? I'm hurt and sad! Maybe a little hungry? That last one's not your fault, though, Ren!

Jaune: Sounds exciting, where are you going?

Blaze: Just outside the kingdom.

Nora: Hey! So are we.

Phyrrha: Ren and Nora wanted to shadow the sheriff of a nearby village.

Ren: We set out tomorrow.

Neptune: Then you can party with us tonight.

Sun, Neptune, Rouge, and Amy suddenly appeared beside us.

Neptune: We're shadowing a crime specialist. All inner-city detective stuff. We get junior badges.

Sonic: Your in this too Amy?

Amy: Rouge somehow convinced me...

Sun: We normally go to the with you guys, which means stuff's always exploding and junk. So we thought this might be a better way to check out the kingdom when it's, y'know, normal.

Ruby: Well-

Oobleck: Four minutes!

Ruby: Well, uh, wish us luck.

We got on the plane and flew to the southeast.

Yang: I guess I just never saw you as much of a fighter.

Oobleck: I admit I fancy myself more of an, intellectual but I can assure you, as a huntsman, I've had my fair share of tussels.

Ruby: Like the mushroom?

Sonic: Those are truffles.

Ruby: Like the sprouts?

Yang: Those are brussels.

Oobleck: Besides, given my expertise in the field of history,as well as my dabbling in the art of archaeological surveys, our dear headmaster saw it fit to assign me to this particular, assignment.

Sonic: What's history got to do with this?

Oobleck: My, what a preposterous question! Why, history is the backbone of our very society. And the liver! And probably the kidney if I were to weager.

Blaze: And that means...?

Ooblack: The southeast quadrant outside of Vale is home to wild forest and deep caves. But, it is also the location to one of the kingdoms greatest failures.

Ruby: Mountain Glenn.

Yang: That's right, it was an expansion of Vale.

Blaze: But in the end it was overrun by Grimm and fenced off from the rest of the city.

Oobleck: Correct! And now it stands abandoned, as a dark reminder.

Shadow: And the most likely place for a hide out.

Oobleck: Precisely.

The ship landed and we all hoped into the abandoned city.

Oobleck: Ladies and gentlemen, you still may be students, but as of this moment your first mission as huntsman and huntress has begun. From this point forward you need to do exactly as I say. Do you understand? Ruby! I thought I told you to leave all your bags back at school.

Ruby: But, uh you hadn't told us to listen to you yet... so I didn't.

Sonic: Well, she's not wrong.

Oobleck: Very well Ruby leave your bag here we can pick it up upon our return.

Ruby: But I-whaa...

Oobleck: Young lady what in the world could you have in that could be so important for you to bring it-

Suddenly Zwei popped his head out of Ruby's bag.

Ruby: *whisper* get back in the bag.

Oobleck: We're here to investigate an urban jungle teeming with death and hostility and you bought, a dog?

Ruby: I-uhh...!

Oobleck: Genius!

Oobleck grabbed Zwei, knocking Ruby down in the process.

Oobleck: Canines are historically known for their perceptive nose and heightened sense of sound. Making them excellent companions for hunts such as ours!

Ruby: I'm a genius.

Shadow: *sigh* So, what are your orders doctor?

Oobleck: Ah, yes! Straight to the chance, I like it! As you have been informed the southeast area has been marked as a resent hotspot for Grimm activity. Now there are several explanations for this behavior. One of which being, Grimm.

Ruby: Uhh,what?

Oobleck: Grimm, a creature of Grimm approximately 100 yards away from us at this very moment.

Yang: What!?

Blaze: Really, just one?

I lit my hands on fire.

Oobleck: Stop.

Blaze: What, why?

Oobleck: There are a number of reasons why Grimm would congregate in this particular area. The most likely of which would be their attraction to negativity. Sadness, envy, loneliness, hatred, all qualities that are likely held by our hidden group ill intent.

Sonic: Hear that Shadow? Your a walking target.

Shadow: *hmph*

Ruby: So, what now?

Oobleck: We wait; we track, if the specimen leads us to its pack, that pack may subsequently lead us to our prey.

Yang: How long do we wait?

Oobleck: It's uncertain, hours, days, weeks, why lone Grimm have been known to stand isolated from the pack for months and there's the whole pack.

Weiss: What?!

Oobleck: And now they've seen us.

Weiss: What!?

Oobleck: And now they've seen us!!

Sonic: guess tracing is out the question.

Oobleck: An accurate assumption, yes.

Yang: What's the plan then?

We all looked at Oobleck and he looked at all of us.

Oobleck: Show me what you're capable of.

Ruby: Cover your ears Zwei!

Sonic: Heh, looks like this could be fun!

Everyone took out their weapons and charged, except for Oobleck. I hoped between 5 Grimm and unleashed a flaming tornado to take them all out.

Blaze: Fighting monsters in an abandoned city? I feel like I've done this before...

Suddenly a Grimm tried to attack me from behind, but a giant rock ran into it before it could touch me. I looked at Silver and he smiled. I smiled back and we decided to fight the Grimm together.  We all kept fighting Grimm for who knows how long.

Yang: Hey doc, you know I was actually looking forward to seeing a pro huntsman in action. Like fighter or at least helping us fight?

Oobleck: Ah, but I am in action, scouring the ruins of this once great city for any signs of irregularity. Not every mission is filled terror and heroism. Sometimes it's just a heightened form of extermination. Remember, this is a job, and you all signed up for it. I do hope you understand.

Yang: Well, yeah. O-of course!

Oobleck: Hmmm.

After that Oobleck asked Yang, Weiss, and Blake questions. I thought he was gonna say something to Ruby next but he turned to me instead.

Oobleck: Blaze, may I ask you why you do what you do?

Blaze: ... A long time ago my village was attacked. That attack killed my parents, forcing me to become queen at an early age. Since then I did whatever it took to protect people.

Oobleck: I see, but why?

Blaze: I-I... don't know.

It took me awhile to realize that. I had no clue why I protect people, I don't even know who I'm protecting most of the time. So, why do I do it? Oobleck left me thinking about that for awhile. He then walked to Ruby, who somehow found a large chicken for Zwei to play with. As soon as she saw the professor she put it away.

Ruby: Sorry! Uh, are we ready to keep going?

Oobleck: No, I believe that will have to do for today. It's going to be dark soon.

He tossed his bag to Yang.

Oobleck: You six, set up camp in that building. Oh and do make sure there are none of those, creatures. Your leaders and I are going to secure the perimeter. Come, Ruby. You too Sonic.

We watched as Ruby, Sonic, and Oobleck left the area.

Sonic POV

As me, Ruby, and Oobleck walked together Excalibur got my attention.

Excalibur: Master Sonic!

Sonic: Yeah?

Excalibur: I sense a very powerful presence nearby!

Sonic: Really? Wait, when were you able to sense others presence?

Excalibur: I do not know. I am guessing it is as soon as I got hear. This presence feels familiar though. Whoever it is must be extremely powerful so please be careful.

Sonic: So, watch out for the powerful person who could possibly kill me if I get on their bad side. Got it. Don't worry, if it's that strong then it's probably Shadow's or something.

Excalibur: I know but still...

Ruby: Whoaaa!

We stop near a cliff and in the distance we see a large pack of Grimm that look a lot like elephants.

Ruby: What is that? It looks awesome!

Oobleck: That my dear, is a Grimm.

Ruby readies her scythe.

Ruby: Let's kill it.

Sonic: With a Grimm that size, I don't think we can do anything but agitate it.

Ruby: But what if it attacks us?

Oobleck: Fret not Ruby those goliaths are not concerned with us. Not every Grimm is mindless. Or rather not every Grimm is still mindless. You see the Grimm you see before you are so powerful, so superior to the Grimm you fought, that they undoubtedly lived hundreds of years. And in that time between killing humans, and attacking our borders, they've done one important thing, they've learned. They've learned that when they attack our borders, they're likely to die. And what we lack in strength, we make up for in will. And that killing one human, will only bring more.

Ruby: Then why are they still so close to the city? What are they doing?

Oobleck: Waiting.

He walked away and we followed.

Ruby: Doctor Oobleck?

Oobleck: Yes?

Ruby: I was wondering-

Oobleck: Wondering why I've been interrogating your teammates all day?

Ruby: A-actually, I was wondering... Why did you want to become a huntsman?

Oobleck: Look around and tell me what you see.

Ruby: Lots of old buildings, uhh, empty streets...

Oobleck: I see lives that could've been saved. As a huntsman, it is my job to protect the people.And although I am capable of doing it with traditional weaponry, I believe I can make a much larger impact if I do it with my mind.As a teacher I am able to take knowledge, the most powerful weapon of them all, and place it into the hands of every student that passes through my classroom. I look at this wasteland and I see lives that could've been saved. But I also see an opportunity. An opportunity to study these ruins and learn from this tragedy. And therefore become stronger. I am a huntsman Ruby, because there is nothing else in this world I would rather be.

Blaze POV

We set camp in an old building. Shadow was on the roof starring into space and Silver was already fast asleep. So i was left alone with Yang, Weiss, and Blake.

Yang: I can't believe we didn't find anything.

Blake: We've always been fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. I guess we can't always have luck on our side.

Blaze: It's never that easy. Don't worry, we'll find something eventually. 

Weiss: That's not what I meant.

We all looked at Weiss

Blake: huh?

Weiss: Earlier, about, upholding the legacy. There's more to it than that.

Yang: Yeah, no me too. I mean, I don't know.

Blake: I don't know either. I know what I want to do but, I figured I'd always take things one step at a time.

Yang: Well, it doesn't matter, we know why we're here. Right?

Nobody said a word and then...

Oobleck: Ah wonderful! A textbook campfire.

In comes everyone else.

Sonic: Hey guys! Whats up?

Ruby: *gasp* Fire! Sssooo... warm....

Oobleck: Very good, eat your dinners and hurry to bed. We have a lot of ground to cover tomorrow and we'll need you to take turns keeping watch over our temporary abode, any volunteers for first watch?

Ruby raised her hand.

Ruby: Yo.

She moved away from the fire and to the giant hole in the wall to keep watch.

Blaze: Hey, did Oobleck ask why you wanted to be a huntress? I mean, what did you tell him?

Ruby: Hm, no he didn't, weird. Oh well, goodnight guys.

And with that we all went to sleep. Hopefully things will be better tomorrow.
