Kanan Jarrus, born Caleb Dume, was a Force-sensitive human male Jedi Knight who survived Order 66. Living on thanks to the sacrifice of his master, Depa Billaba, on Kaller, he met the smuggler Janus Kasmir, who taught him how to survive as a fugitive. Going into hiding, he forsook the Jedi ways for some time, swapping his blue-bladed lightsaber for a blaster.

Eventually, Jarrus would wind up as a freighter pilot for the corporation Moonglow Polychemical in the Gorse system, piloting Moonglow-72. After getting caught up with a ragtag rebellious group consisting of Twi'lek pilot, Hera Syndulla, the conspiracy theorist Skelly, and the Sullustan shift leader Zaluna Myder, Kanan helped prevent Count Denetrius Vidian from destroying Cynda. During the conflict, Jarrus made the decision to accompany Syndulla on her VCX-100 light freighter, the Ghost—which he eventually would command alongside her. Later on, he would develop a romantic relationship with Syndulla.

While cocky and often sarcastic, Jarrus was eager to fight the Galactic Empire. Five years before the Battle of Yavin, Jarrus met Ezra Bridger, a fourteen-year-old Force-sensitive Human, whom he decided to mentor.

     "Kanan!" Ezra shouted as the new inquisitor threw his master across the small room.
Kanan and Ezra were on a mission when they ran into a new inquisitor, the 1st sister, like the others this inquisitor was out to get them too.
Kanan quickly got up and back into his stance, just in time to block another light saber strike. This inquisitor was faster and more skilled than the others, except maybe the grand inquisitor, no wonder she was the FIRST sister. 
     Kanan deflected a couple more strikes, before the inquisitor changed course and targeted Ezra.
    Ezra was taken by surprise by this and deflected one strike but the others knocked him off the platform hey were on.
     "EZRA!" Kanan shouted as he could sense that Ezra was falling (I wrote "as he watched Ezra fall" originally, but then I remembered he's blind now...)
       It was happening again. This fight felt identical to the one Kanan and Ezra had with the grand inquisitor.
     Little did he know, this time, Ezra was still awake and coming back up to help finish the fight.
      All fired up like last time, Kanan was attacking the inquisitor with smooth but faster strikes, the inquisitor was loosing concentration.
     Kanan sensed (almost wrote saw again)  a green light coming from behind, it was Ezra.  Kanan was relieved that he was alright.
    By now, the inquisitor was now struggling to block strikes from both Kanan and Ezra, Kanan in front, Ezra behind.
     Finally, Kanan cut her cool red inquisitor lightsaber, and Ezra finished from behind.
      They won.

    " haha we make a really good team, even when your blind" Ezra laughed.
     "I thought we have established this like a really long time ago." Kanan replied.
    "Your getting better at fighting blind, grandpa." Ezra joked.
     "Urgh" Kanan whined at the new name Ezra had called him, " you know if you call me that one more time, I'm calling you lothrat for the rest of your life."
    "That's fair." Ezra replied laughing.
  The two walked back to the new phantom, eager to get back the ghost.
     "I'm glad you have forgiven yourself about Malecor, even though it wasn't your fault." Kanan randomly brought up.
   "Yeah. Thanks to you. But still, things will never be the same."
