That night, Y/N comes home after hours of work at a restaurant as she feels tired. She stops to see her brothers already there by the door.

"Hey, guys!", Y/N greeted. Mario and Luigi turned and smiled slightly to see her.

"Hey...", Mario and Luigi greeted back. "How'd it go on your first day?", Y/N asked.

The boys looked at each other and winced. Y/N noticed it and frowned.

"That bad, really?", Y/N asked. "I-It's fine. It was... complicated. There's always a next time.", Mario quickly assured her.

"Hopefully...", Luigi added with a frown. Y/N gives her brothers a pat on their arm.

"Well, at least you tried. I'm sure there's more chances.", Y/N said. "Yeah...", Mario and Luigi said back.

The trio then opened the door as Mario and Luigi hanged their caps, as Y/N did the same with her cap, while taking off her boots. They later approached inside to see their whole family in the table as they all greeted them.

"Heyoo!!", Mario's family greeted. "Heyoo!!", Mario, Luigi, and Y/N greeted back as they sit down with the family.

"Oh-hoo! It's the Super Mario Brothers from the TV!", Uncle Tony said. This caused the men to laugh while the women, including Y/N shook their head with a frown.

"They get an Oscar for worst actors?", Uncle Arthur asked. "Hey!", Aunt Marie exclaimed.

She smacked him on the head, causing him to drop his fork. "What'd I do?!", Arthur exclaimed.

Mario laughed awkwardly. Y/N hands Luigi a bowl of salad as he grabs it and places some on his plate.

"So, uh, did everybody saw a commercial then?", Mario asked. "Eheh. We've seen it.", Tony replied.

"And?", Mario asked. "I wouldn't quit your day-job.", Arthur replied.

"Oops! He already did!", Tony added. This caused them to laugh again, causing Y/N to roughly shove some salad into her plate.

"Well, I thought it was incredible. It belongs in a movie theater.", Y/N's mom said. "You know what really belongs in a movie theater, this Tiger Tamer Y/N!", Tony said.

Y/N cringed at that. "You guys saw a video..., didn't you?", Y/N asked, nervously. 

"Oh, yeah. Now that's an Oscar for you right there, girl!", Arthur replied. "Yeah! You're like an animal whisperer! Or animal fairy as your friends called you!", Tony said. 

"Oh, yeah. She's great!", Arthur added. This caused Y/N to feel uncomfortable with the praise she's given when they supposed to praise her brothers for their hard work.

The brothers noticed her distress and gets concerned. Y/N's dad scoops up the spaghetti full of mushrooms and places them on a plate, causing Mario to get disgusted. 

"Ugh! Mushrooms?", Mario groaned. "Everybody loves mushrooms, right?", her dad said, taking a bite of his spaghetti. 

"I love mushrooms. I'll take it.", Luigi said, making her dad smile. "Yeah!", Y/N agreed.

Mario takes out the mushrooms and places them on Luigi's plate. "Mario, seriously, what were you thinking with that commercial?", Tony asked. 

"What? It's supposed to be funny.", Mario said, still taking out the mushrooms. "Yeah, but what's with the outfits? Plumbers wearing white gloves?", Tony asked.

Y/N quickly catches the gloves, before it could hit Luigi's plate and gives it back to Luigi, who nods gratefully. "That's right. You gotta get your trademark. Gotta stand out.", Mario defended.

Y/N's mom comes over and places a bowl of soup and places it in front of Luigi. "Don't listen to them. The world laughed at Da Vinci, too.", Y/N's mom reassured Mario and Luigi. 

"Eh, not sure they did, Ma.", Luigi said. "Dad, what do you think?", Mario asked.

Y/N's dad twirls his noodles with his fork, before facing Mario. "I think you're nuts. You don't need a steady job for some crazy dream. And the worst part, you're bringing your brother down with you.", Y/N's dad replied.

This sadden Y/N for such harsh words to her brother. "Why can't you be more like your sister? She's adequate enough for a decent job as a zoologist and a waitress. Now that's a good amount of payment she's getting. She's being successful.", Y/N's dad continued.

Mario frowned at those words. "Well, thanks dad. Thank you so much. And thanks for your support.", Mario said in a flat tone, getting off from his seat and heading towards his room.

The table goes silent, as they watch Mario storm away, before hearing the door closed. They all look at Y/N's dad, who looks confused. 

"What'd I say?", Y/N's dad asked, causing Y/n to turn and glare at her family. "Why can't you all stop making my brothers feel small, especially Mario?! At least, they're trying! And I don't appreciate for a fact that you all criticize them and compare me to them!", Y/N said, glaring at them. 

"Well, you are very good at your job and...", Y/N's dad started. "Do you guys ever even try to give them a chance to show how good they're at their job?", Y/N continued, cutting her father off.

Causing the family to go silent, making Y/N sigh. "That's what I thought. I'm going to bed. Thanks for dinner.", Y/N said.

With that, she got up and walked towards her room, slamming the door closed. "Sweetie...", Y/N's mom called out with a frown.

Y/N made a beeline for her bed, laying on it, before grabbing one of her pillows and slamming it to her face. She starts screaming into the pillow to let out all of her frustration she's been holding in.

As soon as she's done, she calms down and removes the pillow from her face, relaxing, as she stares up at the ceiling. Her ceilings are decorated with glowing star stickers she placed along with stickers of... glowing rainbows.

Odd... Y/N doesn't remember putting that there. Maybe when she was so young.

Thinking about that, she crawls towards her drawer next to her bed and opens it and pulls out a small treasure chest. Sitting up, she pulls out her key and unlocks it.

Y/N then opens up and sees a golden green ring with silver spikes on it.

She was shocked at the sight and takes it, staring at the ring for a moment, before placing it on her middle finger.

Suddenly, she starts to remember something.

~ FLASHBACK ~

Little Y/N walked out of a large green pipe into an area the land could describe as whimsical. Mushrooms of nearly every shape and size, in the colors red, white, and blue, stood out against the green grass.

As the girl looked around, she didn't notice a large plant with teeth slowly approaching her from behind. The plant was about to attack her, before a young male voice called out to Y/N.

"Hey! Look out!", the voice called out. Y/N turned just in time, as the giant plant almost eaten her if she wasn't pushed out of the way, just as the plant's jaws clamped shut.

Y/N landed on the ground with the person on top of her. Y/N looked up and saw that the person wasn't a person.

It was a guy that looked similar to a dragon turtle with a spiky shell and red hair. "You alright?", the boy asked, getting off the small girl.

"Yeah.", Y/N answered slowly, before she looked over the boy's shoulder. With a shrieking scream, the boy turned to see the giant plant over them.

"Leave us alone!", the boy shouted out, before taking a deep breath in. He let out a stream of fire, but it turned out to be a tiny fireball that landed on one of the plant's leaves.

The plant looked at the two kids with an frown, simply putting the fire out. The boy saw this and chuckled nervously, as the plant seemed to approach them. 

"Run!!!", Y/N yelled out, grabbing the boy by his shell and running, as the plant roared. The boy yelled at being suddenly dragged, while the plant chased after them. 

"Let me go!", the boy shouted out. "There's no time!", Y/N argued, as she kept on running.

The plant was just about to get them, until it was suddenly pulled back, unable to reach them with its stem. The boy saw this and sighed in relief, but grunted, as he and Y/N were sent tumbling over.

The two went stumbling over a hill, bouncing and groaning, as they went down. Once they reached the base of the hill, the two landed face-first in the grass.

The boy got up first, shaking his head, before he looked at Y/N. "That was awesome.", the boy said with a smile, showing off his sharp teeth, which seemed to freak out the girl.

Noticing her scared expression, the boy looked at Y/N, concerned. "Ummm... You okay?", the boy asked, and that's what he did it.

Y/N sniffled a bit, before she turned into a sobbing mess, scaring the boy. The boy stood up and waved his hands around like crazy.

"Hey, why are you crying?! Are you okay!? Does anything hurt!?", the boy asked, trying to see what was wrong with the h/c colored girl.  "I-I want to go h-home!", Y/N sniffled, rubbing at her eyes. 

"Well, that's easy. Let me take you home.", the boy said, not understanding the problem. "It's not here. I'm not from this place.", Y/N said, causing the boy to realize the situation.

"Ohhhh...", the boy said, noticing the severity of the situation. He rubbed his head, looked down, and saw his necklace, before he looked at Y/N.

Y/N buried her face in her hands, sobbing, before she felt a weight around her neck. Looking up, she saw the boy right in front of her, before she saw the necklace around her.

It was a green ring with spikes. "Here, I feel like you need this more than me.", the boy said as he clasped the necklace.

"B-But it's yours.", Y/N said, as she looked at it. The boy just gently smiled at her, though.

"Consider it a thank-you gift for saving my shell.", the boy joked, causing Y/N to laugh. He then stood up and offered his hand to Y/N.

Y/N looked at the turtle boy, confused, while he just smiled. "Come on, let's find your way back home.", the boy said.

Y/N looked at him, before looking at his hand and taking it. "By the way, what's you're name?", the boy asked.

"Y/N, you?", Y/N asked. "You can just call me B.", the boy said.

The two spent the entire day together, walking through the mushroom woods, talking and laughing. It was now late afternoon, and the sky went from blue to shades of orange and pink.

The two sat on top of a giant mushroom, looking at the fading sun. "Wow!", Y/N said, as she looked at the setting sun. 

"I know right, the Mushroom Kingdom has the best sunsets in all the lands.", B said. "I wish I could stare at this every day, this is nothing like Brooklyn.", Y/N said. 

"What's Brooklyn?", B asked. "It's where I'm from, it's not a kingdom or anything like that. But it's a supper cool city with so many different people.", Y/N said with a smile.

"How is it run?", B asked, causing Y/N to shrug. "No clue, I'm not into politics.", Y/N said, before turning to B.

"What about your home?", Y/N asked. "Well, right now I'm the king of a whole kingdom.", B said, shocking the girl.

"What!? Why are you here then?", Y/N asked in shock. "I needed a break from my subjects and my advisor, I only became king recently but they expect me to live up to my parent's legacy.", B said, before he growled.

"I can never be like them, a happy couple who knew how to run a perfect kingdom.", B growled, before he turned away. Y/N felt bad for her new friend, placing a hand on his shoulder, B turned to see Y/N giving him a sad smile.

"Well, you have people around you to help. And I bet that you'll be an amazing king.", Y/N said, causing the boy to beam at her. "You think so?", B asked.

"I know so.", Y/N reassured, before an impish grin came over her face. "Just work on that roar of yours.", Y/N said, causing the boy to look at her indignantly.

"Hey!", B cried out, causing Y/N to laugh at him. The boy stared at her, before a smile overtook his face, soon enough he joined in the laughter.

The two kept on laughing, before Y/N saw something flying through the air. "What's that?", Y/N asked, standing up.

B looked up and his eyes widened in shock at the sight of a purple butterfly. "It can't be...", the boy said, as he followed Y/N's lead.

Y/N kept on walking, following the butterfly, as it flew through the air. Eventually, the butterfly landed on a flower, its amethyst wings shining even though the sun was gone.

Y/N approached the flower, her eyes wide, as she took in its radiant glow. "Hey, N/N, where are you?", B asked, as he was a little ways away from the girl.

Y/N just kept quiet, before she reached out to touch the butterfly. Y/N gently traced the butterfly, feeling the small amount of fuzz on the main body and the wings that felt just like crystal.

Y/N smiled at the feeling, happy the butterfly wasn't flying away. A sudden light enveloped the girl, blinding her for a second, before she looked at the butterfly, which had now turned into a beautiful necklace.

Picking up the necklace, Y/N inspected it, admiring the craftsmanship of it. "N/N!", B shouted out, as he finally caught up to her.

Y/N looked up at her friend, who smiled in relief that she was okay, before a light enveloped the butterfly and the girl. B looked at the girl in shock and was about to come over, if he weren't blasted away by a sudden burst of energy. 

"B!", Y/N shouted out, before the scene went white.

"Y/N!", Mario called out. She snapped out of her daydream and turned to see Mario and Luigi, as they appeared to be excited.

"W-What?", Y/N stuttered. "Brooklyn is in danger and we're gonna save it!", Mario exclaimed.

Y/N raised her eyebrow. "What do you mean?", Y/N asked, confused.

"Look!", Luigi replied. Luigi brings out a remote and presses a button, turning the TV on.

The screen showed almost the whole city being flooded. This concerned her and knew this is going to be big.

She turned to her brothers, as they look determined and ready. She smiled and got off of her bed.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's a-go!", Y/N said. "Yeah!!", Mario and Luigi cheered.

Y/N quickly grabbed her things, before running out of her room with her brothers. The ring around her finger glistened, as she goes.
