Authors POV

Avni went to see the dr & it turned out she was pregnant. Avni didn't know how to feel. As she was going home, a lot of things were going through her head.She didn't know if she should be sad or happy at her fate. The symbol of Neil & Avni's eternal love was in her womb. She put her hand on her belly as she cried.

"Where were you Avni beta?" Ayesha asks as she walked in home.

Avni saw Arjun sitting on the sofa & she was surprised to see him here.

"Arjun has been waiting for you here since a while. He wanted to speak to you Avni. You both sit & talk, I have a lot of work & preparations to do for tonight's engagement party." Ayesha says leaving.

"Hi Avni..." he said awkwardly.

"Why are you here?" She asked sternly.

"Avni look.. I know things are so complicated.. but you know my reasons already for not saying no to this engagement. I'm helpless Avni. But Neil told me yesterday that he was going to confess his feelings & engage you tonight. So let's hope for the best Avni." He said sincerely.

"Yeah i know arjun.. I'm just worried.. I feel that something wrong will happen.. I just hope not" Avni replies

"Hey btw.. I've been trying to reach Neil since morning but he's not answering & he's not at home.. did he meet you at all today?" Arjun asks.

"No he hasn't.. I've been waiting since morning at the balcony but he didn't show up... " Avni says.

"Ok.. but where were you..? You don't look okay." Arjun asks

Avni couldn't help it. Her tears fell out of her eyes.

"I'm pregnant" she says.

"What?? Really?? Did you tell Neil yet??" He asks surprised.

"I just found out today.. I need to talk to Neil soon.. please let me know when you know where he is Arjun" Avni Says.

With that, Arjun left quietly. He kept calling Neil's number but he wasn't answering. Arjun started to worry as today was the big day. He didn't know what was to come.

Evening:

Avni was wearing a beautiful anarkali dress in white color. She looked very elegant & beautiful. Her bangles complimented her hands.

All guests arrived to the party & Ashish Mehta looked very happy when the groom & his parents showed up.

"Neil where you??" She says to herself crying. She couldn't get engaged to someone else.

Then the time that Avni feared most came, the ring ceremony. Arjun kept looking at Avni & through signals was trying to ask where Neil was. Nobody knew where he was. Then as they were about to exchange rings, a sound of clapping came from behind the crowd.

Avni turned to see who it was. It was her Neil.

"Woowww just woww! What a party!" Neil says sarcastically. He had a bandage on his head which didn't go unnoticed by Avni. His eyes looked red as he started to walk closer to Avni.

"Avni darling, why didn't you invite your boyfriend to your engagement party huh? Very bad yr Avni, this is not done!" Neil says sadistically.

Avni looked on stunned.

"Shut up! Get out of here Neil!" Ashish yells.

"Don't raise your voice at me, you should be doing that to your characterless daughter!" Neil says. His own words mocking him as he chuckled.

Avni couldn't believe what she was hearing from her Neil. The ring fell off her hands. Her eyes teared up.

"Watch your tongue Neil. And get out before you get kicked out!" Ashish yells.

"I will but first let me tell you guys the truth of Ashish Mehta's daughter! She has already done her 'suhagraat' before marriage, that too with me! And she has been having an affair with me for quite awhile now. Amazing right? Sleep with someone else & marry someone else!?" Neil exclaims.

"Neil! What are you saying?!" Avni cried out. She couldn't believe Neil could say this infront of everyone.

Neil walks up to Avni. "Now tell me if I'm wrong darling?" He asks. His eyes were bloodshot red.

"Neil you were-" Avni gets cut off by Neil.

"I just want a YES or NO" Neil says sadistically.

"Weren't you having an affair with me for months now?" He asks rudely.

"I was but-"

"Yes or no Avni" he asks.

Avni looked around as everyone stared at her. Her vision was blurring from tears.

"Yes" She said crying.

"Didn't you already have your 'suhagraat' with me?" He asks.

Avni couldn't take it anymore. Her heart was paining.

Just then, Arjun turned Neil around & slapped him across the face.

"So I was right! You were doing all that fakeness to win the stupid bet!" Arjun yelled in anger.

"Neil how could you?! I'm ashamed to call you my friend!" Arjun says

"What bet..?" Avni Says with a broken voice.

"Avni he... he... had a bet.. about sleeping with you." Arjun says hesitantly.

Avni felt as if something was piercing her in between her chest. She realized it was broken pieces of her heart. The man she loved from the core of her heart and trusted more than herself had deceived her, she thought.

She walked up to Neil. "Is this true Neil?"

Neil looked down, not making eye contact with Avni, as if he couldn't face her. His eyes were red & puffy, as if he was trying to say something but couldn't.

"Yes it's true, after all I'm Neil Khanna. Every girl falls for me, even you did." He said in a cold tone, swallowing his pain.

Avni's heart froze. She raised her hand & slapped him hard against the face. Then slapped him again. Then again. Neil was slapped about 4 times. Guilt was written all over his face.

"I can't believe I trusted you & loved you more than anything!" She yelled out.

Ashish & Ayesha looked disappointed & the rest of the guests had gossip to talk about.

"Mom & dad.. please listen to me.. I didn't know he was going to say all this.. he was going to express his feelings but I didn't know he was going to say these things.. please say something!" Avni cried out.

"I'm ashamed of you Avni. You have become the reason for my head being held low" ashish Says sternly.

"You are dead for me Avni" ashish Says.

Avni couldn't help but sobb. Neil looked as if he was going to burst into tears anytime. Before he did, he walked out quickly.

Arjun's parents cancelled the engagement after knowing about Avni & Neil's relations. Arjun looked on stunned. He couldn't believe Neil did that to Avni. He was shocked as Neil told him that he loves Avni. Something must be wrong. He too left with his parents. Before leaving, he went to say something to Avni.

"Avni don't worry I'll talk to Neil.. something must be wrong." Arjun says.

But Avni couldn't hear anything. All she could remember was Neil insulting her infront of everyone & his harsh words.

The guests left as the party had been ruined.

Ashish Mehta went to his room. He was very upset & didn't speak to Avni. Ayesha also left without saying a word to Avni & went to the room to calm ashish down.

Avni walked into her room. Shattered & broke. She fell to the floor.

"Why neil?! Why?!! Why did you do this to me?? For your stupid bets! What happened to all your promises??" She screams as she sobbed. She grabs the glass on her dressing table & throws it on the floor in anger. After awhile she stopped crying. She was in a terrible trance. Her body was numb. She looked at the pieces of glass next to her feet on the floor.  There was a big sharp piece. Sharp enough to kill herself.

Without thinking, she grabbed the piece of  broken glass & held it to her wrist. She shut her eyes as memories & flashbacks of Neil came flooding through her. The first time she met Neil in college, the first time they kissed, the first time he confessed, the first time they became friends, the moment he filled her hairline with sindoor, promising to protect her no matter what, the moment they both became one. Then the most horrible scene of Neil insulting her came through her & she slit her wrist in one go.
