The world was so much smaller and confined than Sunshine had thought. At least it was peaceful and deserted. The worst part of it was how worried Treefrog was as he stared at her. Searching his thoughts, she realized that she would be stuck with him for a full month before she would be free from her pen. Growling softly, Sunshine decided to test her abilities and examine herself with her eyes. Everything looked so much different than she heard from her mind. Sunshine decided that this would be the best way to spend her time for the month.

Two weeks after her hatching, an egg in the pen next to Sunshine hatched. By that time, Sunshine had grown bored with everything that she was able to do in her limited space and had memorized every inch of her body, mind, and pen. She had gleaned as much information as possible from the minds of the guardians around her, and she had even learned how to speak Dragon from listening to the guardians do it and practicing while they thought she was asleep and paid less attention to her. She had even learned how to move her wings in order to fly, even if they weren't strong enough to yet.

The dragonet that hatched out of the pen next to her was the closest Sunshine had been to a dragonet near her age, and she was instantly bombarded with crazy dragonet thoughts. Sunshine fought to shield her mind from it. Once this task was done, Sunshine began to examine the dragonet with her eyes. She reared up to grasp the vine fence that separated them so she could extend her neck over to see the young dragonet. Sunshine suppressed an annoyed growl as Treefrog squawked in fear. He was way too overprotective. Sunshine bent her head closer to the dragonet to see her better. The dragonet was obviously a purebred RainWing, like almost all of the dragons in the RainWing village. The one oddity about her was that she was all green with black flecks and a black underbelly. The shades of green that she was, as Sunshine had learned from her guardians, were the shades of both fear and disgust, with black being shock. Sunshine sensed that this dragonet was feeling none of these things and she was just stuck as one color. Sunshine had already mastered hiding her feelings from creeping onto her ruff, but if she hadn't, light purple of confusion would have been dominant.

The young dragonet let out a few happy squeaks and stared at Sunshine in amazement. The dragonet's guardian, a clearly experienced female painted in bright pink and light green (excitement and fear) rushed over to tend to the baby. She gasped when she saw that the dragonet was all green, and black and marigold (surprise) joined light green to drown out the pink of her scales. "Go on, shoo," she said to Sunshine, turning her back on her and carrying the dragonet. Although Sunshine was sad that the dragonet was being carried away, she foresaw this scared rejection to be frequent in the future.
