Chapter 8: Someone

It's been 2 weeks since they broke up, and it shattered Taehyung into pieces. He can't even focus on himself, on his work, and on everything surrounding him.

He wanted to take a rest for a moment, but he also had to earn some money to live, or else, he'll die because of hungriness. That's why he still went to his work as a waiter in a restaurant where he is working even though he was not feeling well.

“Taehyung, are you okay? You look so pale today.” His co-worker, Hyun, asked him.

They were in the kitchen getting the orders for the customers.

“Taehyung” Hyun called him again and tapped his left shoulder, causing Taehyung to flinch.

“Huh? W-what is it?” Taehyung looked so lost and it was so obvious on his face.

If it's not because of his pale skin and huge eye bags, it will be because of how weak he is right now, as if he would pass out at any moment.

“I'm asking you, are you okay? I'm worried because seemed to be different now.” Hyun told him.

“I-I'm fine, just thinking of something.” Taehyung forced his smile.

“Are you sure? Because you don't look so okay. You should probably take a leave early, so you can take a rest.” Hyun stated.

“Yes, don't worry about me, I'm fine. I'll go and serve this order now.” Taehyung uttered and left the kitchen after grabbing the tray of food.

He was trying to maintain his self-consciousness because he felt so dizzy right now. Even if he wanted to end his shift early, he doesn't want his salary to get deducted.

While walking to the table where he would serve the order, he noticed a familiar side view. He couldn't be wrong, it was Jungkook sitting with his colleague. There are a total of four detectives on the table. Jungkook was sitting with a girl beside him.

He stopped for a moment and bit his bottom lip. He wanted to take a turn and leave, but it's been a while since the last time he saw Jungkook. He doesn't want to admit it, but he already missed Jungkook so much that seeing him right now makes him feel delighted.

But he should remember that it was him who ended their relationship, not Jungkook.

He sucked a huge amount of air and shook his head before he walked towards them.

“Here's your order.” He spoke and put down the tray to settle the food they ordered.

Even if he is not looking at Jungkook, he could feel Jungkook is staring at him.

“Jungkook, you and Liah are good to be a couple. She's beautiful and skilled too, just like you.” One of Jungkook's colleagues started.

“Seungho is right, I'm not even surprised why you two got ship together in our department.” Juhan agreed with Seungho.

It hurts Taehyung's heart, he shouldn't have felt jealous, but hearing that his ex-boyfriend was expected to be with someone else broke his heart.

“Sunbaenim, please don't say something like that. That's so embarrassing.”

Taehyung glanced at Liah, they weren't wrong though, she was beautiful and looked decent too. She's fit to be Jungkook's partner, after all, she is a detective too. He can tell that she likes Jungkook because her cheeks are getting redder.

“What? I'm just saying the truth, you two should date.” Juhan chuckled.

“Right, I agree, besides, Jungkook, aren't you single? You two s---”

Taehyung accidentally poured the hot soup while settling it on the table. He let out a hiss because it was hurting. It was an accident because his hands suddenly felt shaking for some reason.

“Taehyung, are you okay?” Jungkook was about to hold his hand, but he pulled his hand away.

“I'm sorry, I'll get you a new one. I'm really sorry.” Taehyung apologized and left them.

“You know him, Jungkook?” Seungho asked.

“You two, make sure to shut your mouth.” Jungkook glared at them and looked at Taehyung.

Due to the tears brimming in Taehyung's eyes, his sight was getting blurry, and he didn't notice a person in front of him. He bumped into that person, causing him to go back to his senses.

“What's wrong with you?!” The person shouted.

He saw the orders of the person who shouted at him fall to the ground.

“I-I'm sorry, I---”

“Sorry? Look what you've done! How am I supposed to eat that, hah?!” The person yelled, earning the attention of the people inside the restaurant.

“I-I apologize, I-I will get you a new one. I'm really sorry.” Taehyung bowed his head apologetically, multiple times.

“Get me a new one? Don't you know how hungry am I right now?” The person kept scolding him while hitting his head.

Since Taehyung felt dizzy, the hits on his head added to the pain.

“I will serve it quickly, I---”

“If you are not just a stupid person, this wouldn't happen at all. Poor people like you who serve customers like us should know to do the right thing. I am paying you and this is what you will do to me? Do you want me to call the police, huh?! Is t---”

The person stopped when he pushed away from Taehyung because of his constant hit on Taehyung's head. Jungkook's push wasn't that strong enough, but he already fell to the ground.

“Did you know what you were doing? Hitting his head can be counted as a physical assault.” Jungkook spoke.

“That stupid ugly waiter offended me first!” The person grumbled.

But he got punched in the face instead, Jungkook grabbed his collar and jabbed him again.

“Jungkook, stop that!” Taehyung attempted to stop him, but Jungkook was pouring his anger out on the person.

“Jungkook”

“Sunbae!”

Jungkook's colleagues pulled him away from the person who was already bleeding.

“What do you think you're doing?! You're going to kill him!” Taehyung shouted at Jungkook.

“He's hitting you! What do you want me to do, hah?! Just watch you?!” Jungkook retorted.

He looked at Taehyung, who was crying in front of him.

“Y-you---”

Before Taehyung can even complete his sentence, he passed out due to exhaustion.

“Taehyung!”

Jungkook was able to catch him, just by touching him, he realized that Taehyung was burning in fever.
